  1. Che, That alshabaab wield significant influence militarily is not moot point at all. This entity controls entire regions and have shown confidence not seen before to attack and expand to other regions beyond thier control whenever time permits them. Whether they have political objectives that could be reasonably accommodated is the heart of this current conflict in Mogadishu. Also what is at stake is whether this group is fighting for goals beyond restoring the state, a proposition that is clearly becoming undisputable as their rhetoric show. Sharif did not deny alshabaab existence. Indeed, Sharif and his government did not dismiss alshabaab as fanatics. To the contrary, Sharif recognized them and declared his approach to bridge the gap that existed. He wants peace and reconciliation, he said. His gestures were big and substantial. He accepted the most respected scholars to mediate and bring both parties to the table. So Sharif’s part showed willingness to talk and understand these alshabaab youths. It was, and still is, them that took his peace gesture as a sign of weakness. It was not the other way around. Now the issue of AU has always been contentions one. In the long run there is no interest for Somalia to rely on foreign boots to secure its capital. But any reasonable person would understand that the conditions that necessitated the presence of AU troops well preceded the birth of Sharif’s tfg. In fact he showed all the signs that he genuinely wants to remove them. I am not sure if you are ignoring facts for the sake of this argument but facts point to that Sharif was reasonable in his dealing with his opponents. Facts also point to that Alshabaab were quite stubborn and were as though if they could not wait for war to break out. When most Somalis were giving Sharif the benefit of the doubt, alshabaab’s mortars saluted him as he entered Xamar back from Jabbuuti. He requested AU troops not to respond in kind. The fools took that as a sign of weakness and not as conciliatory gesture. As long alshabaab militia attack the tfg installations in its weakest moments, the argument of withdrawing AU troops ignores the need for their presence. Now I must ask you whether you agree with those who hold AU troops are occupying force and endorse their efforts to liberate the city? Answer me Che, I really want to know what an educated fellow like you think about this issue. How does the presence of AU troops in Congo different than the one in Somalia? Is it an occupation ya Che? As for your grievance against international and regional entities, adeer you’ve described what stateless people are bound to experience yet you unfortunately support those who block one of the best opportunities Somalia had to get out of this mess. You cant complain about others taking advantage of you if you cant even acknowledge the efforts of those who genuinely want peace to prevail. Even worse your support of alshabaab defeats what could be legitimate nationalistic concerns. How could the state be stored if this group not only refuses to accept the Jabbuuti arrangement but also threatens other stable parts awoowe? To top it, you even don’t think tfg arrangement has any significance and wants to destroy it without even suggesting any alternative or considering the practicality of replacing it with something that could work even temporarily. Why break it if you can indeed modify it? Sharif and his team showed openness to accept reasonable modification to the tfg framework. What do you want Che? A strong Somali state in Nirvana headed by alshabaab! I must note that you dodged the Sharia implementation point. It was predictable that you would dodge.
  2. Originally posted by Emperor: Xiin Awoowe that's what I am hearing, no single Alshabaab fighter is in Mogadishu, this fight is between Hizbul Islam and Sheikh hotel... Hassan Turki, Shangoolle, Masnuur waa iska qaybiyeen qaar Hiiraan qaarna Gedo, that's my 2 cents... Emperor alshabaab is there in more forces than they ever were to capture Xamar. Hizbul Islam is a fractured organization and so are the two Hassans. Hassan Turk has lost his army to alshabaab; when you hear him in the media being in far away places imagine a mother whose children tragically slipped away, and who as a result refused to rest endlessly wondering around. The other Hasan has managed to wrestle the leadership of Hizbul Islam from the confused Dr. Iimaan, but alas that act did not transcend the mere symbolism of the old colonel gaining something in whose capacity he can speak as he desperately trots to various media outlets in Xamar and around the world to stay relevant in the current big fight for the control of the city. But as you can see Sharif continues to hold his ground, even gain more, as the momentum of his opposition wanes down. His oppositions on the other hand are reduced to complain about the mechanics of a war they recklessly started. ‘He is mobilizing his qabiil’, they desperately point out as Sharif’s appeal to the general masses to defend the government materializes. In a desperate stunt to gain public sympathy, they even allege war crimes and decry humanitarian crisis produced because of the very war they rushed to start. Others, just like you, are resorting to mere name calling, and feeble headlines to register their anger with Sharif’s strength. What gives? The thing is my good brother if one lacks solid principles to anchor his positions one becomes sentimental and emotional, and is easily seduced to engage useless propaganda to promote the ideas of violent, fringe groups like alshabaab whilst deep down in his heart he realizes what these groups espouse are rarely reconcilable with his real political aspirations of peaceful Somalia. There is no scandal in my mind to call for dialogue between the two competing visions for Mogadishu in particular and in Somalia in general. Ultimately it will be because of a genuine political settlement that Somalia will return to peacefulness again, not through military exercise or forceful humiliation. But one has to acknowledge making that dialogue possible again requires achieving mutual recognition and a tolerable degree of leveling out with the current reality. It’s sad it came down to this, but this is what this war is all about. Alshabaab refused to recognize the other side, and so it will be through this war that they will be forced to accept the existence of a transitional government. In that fundamental struggle between reason and demagoguery, where do you stand ya King? Are you supporting alshabaabs current position to overthrow the government? If yes, why ya Emp? If no, what gives these Duke-like propaganda posts that seemingly depicts scenarios that do not at this time exist in Xamar? Answer me waryaa, ama sidaadii bugux aad .
  3. Che wrote: The demands of Al-Shabaab are simple and within reason. I am not sure you understand what alshaabs demans are. But lets deal with the ones you listed above. 1-AU forces must leave the country In principle not many people defend the presence of AU troops. Sharif and his government indicated many times that they are willing to put a timetable on the withdrawal of AU troops. Given the complete breakdown of state armed forces and the lack of security in Xamar, the need to have the protection of AU troops for the major government installation are understandable, and very much with in reason however. The point of contention has always been whether the presence of these troops constitutes foreign occupation as alshabaab and Ina Aweys assert or whether they are merely peacekeeping forces deployed in Somalia due to the prolonged conflict there. It’s not clear to me which camp you belong in that fundamental dispute. Still the fact remains that both rhetoric and violent acts of alshabaab left no room for thoughtful discussion about how to proceed on this issue. We all know who aborted the efforts of scholars in Xamar when they tried to mediate and intercede. The demand of the withdrawal AU troops would have been reasonable had those calling for it showed any respect and appreciation for the efforts to attain such goal. 2-Sharif must stop pretending that he leds the legitimate government of Somalia Sharif is not pretending, he IS the legitimate leader of the current transitional government. One has to start somewhere to revive the downed Somali state; Sharif chose to contest and won the seat of tfg, which Abdullahi Yusuf vacated. As a result he is the leader of an internationally recognized weak framework in which majority Somali communities are represented in the form of clan formula. If you have beef with current international machinations, Somalia is not where to come to express violently your frustrations with the said system. The fact Sharif receives supports from various institutions, both regional and global, does not mean he’s serving for foreign interests. Somalia does not exist in a vacuum thusly it must engage and seek the collaboration of other nations and interested parts to stand on her feet again. Baring your skinny chest in defiance before the world and pointing your fingers to lay the blame on others is dead end strategy adeer. Simply put, opposing Sharif on the grounds of legitimacy is alshabaab talking points that ignore the reality as it’s today. Having said that, it would be worthwhile if you elaborate the political scheme behind dismissing Sharif’s tfg and starting over again. What do you reckon would change as far as basic political variables are concern? Or do you buy the notion that alshabaab have the capacity and popularity to govern Somalia as a whole hence does not need to appease any entity or group? What makes you think people will not oppose them if alshabaab succeed to snatch the power, as alshabaab have opposed to the current arrangement? 3- Sharia law must be implemented So you think those who are fighting Sharif are for Sharia implementation? Are you just repeating the talking points you’ve read in the news portals or you genuinely understand the objectives of Islamic Sharia? One would think that you by now understand that Sharia implementation is more than mere slogans and random demands. But again even with all the systematic inadequacy and lack of infrastructure Sharif’s government accepted the Sharia implementation and signed it into law. Did it not yaa Che? Or do you think that was a half measure intended to appease alshabaab, and you want more forceful version of Sharia implementation? So much for simplicity and reasonableness!
  4. Che, don’t worry Sharif will offer another olive branch after he secures Mogadishu. His inborn imperative to survive and defend the government will not be as ruthless as some are expecting. The man still prefers peace to war. Only if the violent alshabaabs you support are as wise.
  5. ^^Caqli. Caqli. Caqli igula hadal awoowe. The war is already raging. You, and not xiin, were the one who wanted it to overthrow the sharif government. It was you who opposed it before it even come to Xamar on the grounds of warlordsm . What has changed awoowe? Was it the sharp side of government’s sword that restored your sanity now? Let me put it this way: Do/did you support the violence opposition against Sharif’s government? Were you supportive of Sharif’s peace efforts to manage the conflict through dialogue and reconciliation? Did you ever imagine the consequence of advocating another violence in xamar to oppose this government? Since when did you develop this new humanitarian concern and consideration for the people of xamar yaa waranle? above all what is your position now? War till sharif is toppled? Peace? If first, don’t whine for you need to bite the bullet, as you will see the tragedy unfold. If latter, what is wrong with current's government's position to engage anyone who wants to take that route? What modifications would you suggest to that position for peace to prevail? Talk sense, if you can, yaa Waranka. G.Nite.
  6. ^^Some times states kill to assert their authority and survive. Today it's a defensive war that the government is engaged in. Dont make it sound like Sharif wanted to exercise some fake power. And btw monopoly of violence is one of the oldest sources of power. Nithaamul qahri , it’s called. waraa ha ku dhiman meesha, in xamar there is no intellectual discussion, and if there was ever one Sharif easily captured its summit. There is a raging war however. This is no time for cheap theatrics. Either you accept the offer of the government, which is to come to the table and negotiate in good faith. Or you continue believing your own rhetoric to overthrow the transitional government with a two-year term, and see how far you get with that approach. My guess is you will regret starting this war.
  7. ^^ The Moryans will be absorbed into the system. They will be a mere footnote to the steady moving caravan. When one aspires higher goals, it’s prerequisite for one to have the capacity to forgo mechanical retributions. But again one knows what irks you is not that Sharif has Moryans in his ranks but the fact that he failed to see the significance of your mythical ‘deep south’.
  8. So says the anarchist whom the survival of his political views is contingent upon the continuation of violence. Dabadheeg’s reported return though admittedly awkward is irrelevant in the big scheme of things. An analogy may suffice. When I was growing up, we once awhile used to see an angry kid with broken bottle in the soccer field vowing to disrupt the game. It was normal to see all the rival teams, and the spectators at times, unite to remove the heckler from the field. Naturally the kid would complain way laygu goobtay …but the soccer game would continue and the audience would have a game to cheer for. The kid with a broken bottle in his hands= alshabaab.
  9. ^^Peace caravan was for those with tangible political objectives. Those who are lost in the vomit of their useless rhetoric, or those with anarchist bent, however, will be dealt with force for that is the only language they sadly understand. Further more, one comes across quite weak and confused when one complains about the negative effects of the very war he so recklessly started.
  10. Waranle had high hopes for Sharif. He ditched Sharif, however, when Sharif failed to name someone from ‘deep south’ for the pm position. Alas Sharif’s political choice forced Waranle to don his old anarchist garb, and vow to overthrow ‘qabiilist’ Sharif and his ‘warlord government’.
  11. ^^ Where's Aw Muse? Waryee gabanka duke ah inaga daayye, ii sheeg waxaad rimmanatahay ayyaamahan? Waxay calamadan cusub iyo snm isku ekeyntani?
  12. Waranle, is it me or did you talk about peace caravan somewhere in the politics section? Adeer the peace caravan is still there with a new feature; it’s armed. It’s armed because of significant growth of armed bandits and scofflaws like you who are resolved to kill the leaders of the caravan preventing its message of peace and dialogue. You got in the way of peace, naturally you must be removed so the caravan can continue its march forward. It’s a fitting mitigation, don’t you think yaa Waranle The Anarchist?

  14. Somali government forces seize ground in capital By Ibrahim Mohamed and Abdi Guled Tuesday, June 02, 2009 MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali government forces drove Islamist insurgents from two districts of the capital on Tuesday in another day of heavy fighting that killed dozens of people, residents and officials said. Hardline rebels with links to al Qaeda stepped up attacks in Mogadishu in early May and government forces have been battling to recapture lost ground. Fighting has killed more than 200 people since then and nearly 70,000 residents have fled. "We have swept them from the area. Madina and Dharkenley districts are now in our hands," Abdiqadir Odweyne, a senior police officer, told Reuters. Abdifatah Shaweye, deputy governor of Mogadishu, told Reuters government forces had also ousted the insurgents from a police station in Yaqshid district in the north of the capital. The battle for Mogadishu is the stiffest test yet for new President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, a former Islamist rebel who joined a U.N.-brokered peace process last year and was elected by parliament in January. Advances by the insurgent group al Shabaab and allies have been worrying Western powers and neighbors as they fear the Islamist rebels may use Somalia as a base to destabilize the region's two biggest economies, Kenya and Ethiopia. REINFORCEMENTS IN CENTRAL SOMALIA The gains by pro-government forces came after a second day of heavy battles in the capital and residents emerged from their homes on Tuesday to survey the damage. "I just came out of my house now. Fighting was fierce," said Mohamed Ali, who lives in Dharkenley. "Government forces are everywhere and we do not see any opposition fighters." Residents reported seeing dozens of bodies in the streets of the capital -- Islamist insurgents, civilians and policemen. No confirmed death toll was immediately available. The United Nations' refugee agency said 10,000 residents had fled Mogadishu since last week, taking the total number of displaced since the upsurge in violence in May to 67,000. Since the new administration came to power this year, it has struggled to stamp its control on more than a few districts of the capital and some central regions. In a bid to recapture more territory outside the capital, Internal Security Minister Omar Hashi Aden went to Baladwayne on Tuesday for the first time since taking office. "Omar Hashi has just arrived. He has just passed the toll street to the town. He is escorted by thousands of troops and has driven toward the center of the town," resident Ali Haji Mahamud told Reuters from Baladwayne. Baladwayne is the capital of Hiran region north of Mogadishu and is close to the Ethiopian border. Source: Reuters, June 02, 2009
  15. Puntland is important part of Somalia, and only in the mind of Aw Muse do Puntlanders entertain the notion of mimicking some deluded separatist folks in the North. Only if cyber expressions form the prevailing public opinion of that region…
  16. Although there is some noticeable resentment toward Sharif from SOL Yey supporters (Duke, Emp and like), to say Yey supporters fuel the insurgency is pure nonsense. Yey’s men are in the cabinet. His top military men and the majority of his soldiers are on tfg’s payroll. His closest advisors contended for the seat he was forced to vacate. I mean there is no one famous Yey supporter (discounting of course the cyber hype that is Duke) who publicly opposed Sharif’s government. Those being the facts, how could Yey supporters fuel the insurgency in Xamar? And even those who decidedly voiced their dislike of Sharif and want him down and dead only do so by shouting from the distance with mere angry words; they are not actively rebelling against him. The shrewd ones, it must be borne in mind, does not view Yey’s departure as a defeat, they rather see it as a remarkable judicious decision by a man whom many view persistently stubborn. Even I gave him credit for that particular decision of his.

  18. Saldhiga Yaqshiid waa ,minor building, Sharif controls the entry points of Xamar, and has his goverment's seat secured. Context matters. Sharif wanted peace and reconciliation, and brought a different tone to a war-ravaged region. While he was preaching peace, others were busy plotting war however. He resisted their initial assault without substantial help from outside. The game has changed now. The rush did not produce desired result for alshabaab. The patience didn’t hurt Sharif. The world saw a resilient man who refused to change even under merciless alshabaab shelling. Anarchist and some remnants of Yey can form a cyber coalition to take a confused stance but Somalis have rejected them before as the world rejects their useless rants now.
