Jammaacah, As predicted the traditional garaads moved their gathering to Burowadal settlement, to conclude what was started in Holhol but prematurely wrapped up after local, hired boys attempted to disturb the elders. The will of these traditional elders is unbreakable by the secessionist efforts to obstruct it. As we commented on these pages before, it’s one thing to put armed teenagers on the payroll spending the meager doll-outs UN agencies gave to aid that region, with the clear intention to cause mischief ---a feat secessionist admin in Hargeysa has superbly achieved. Totally another though to effectively court the established authority and the powerhouses of SOOL community with the small idea of succeeding from the very country they helped create. As the meetings are scheduled to continue, what will the secessionist do now? Send another batch of marauding, armed militia to frustrate the elders? And what will that ultimately achieve? One cant help but observe the futility secessionst are undertaking here…

^^Thanks for the update, Sherban. NGONGE, the balance has been broken long time ago. In SOL, it’s Puntland vs. the rest of Somalis

^^Stop trolling in Puntland/Somaliland threads. I note the exuberance of the secessionists, and I honestly think it is somewhat justified---specially when one considers the fact that splittests would cheer for the slightest hint of setback to the country they are trying to break away. To think that the humiliation of traditional garaadis will settle the question of SOOL, however, is to claim one has successfully made a camel go through in the eye of a needle---ridiculously idiotic. As it happened before , these elders will find a better place to meet and will continue thier quest to address the pressing issues affecting thier people.

Nur, quick reminder: don’t allow the breadth of the subject to drift you away from the target points. For this to be beneficial, please try to narrow the parameter of the discussion. I have read your revised post, and I already spotted areas of disagreement, not on the verdict of the question I posed [for that remains to be arrived], but with how you wish to frame the discussion. I will expound on that insha Allah, when you done your work

a dispatch from the deep freeze Since the fall of Lascanod, the ******* community has been attempting to regroup and strategize afresh about how to unite the various political groupings within community in order to regain the control of their city. Both traditional and political leadership of the community organized and held numerous gatherings in various places. The first was the Boocame gathering where large number of traditional leaders attended, overseeing strategic consultation about reversing the unfavorable military and political realities that negatively affected them. Then came the Nariobi conference where politicians, intellectuals, and former government officials met and discussed the fate of Lasanod, the best ways to regain control. Similar Diaspora meetings took place in different cities across North America, Europe, and Gulf countries to achieve similar goals. Although these meetings did not result in producing effective organization towards regaining control of Lasanod, it did however made clear that this community and its traditional leadership strongly oppose the secessionism tendency in that part of Somalia. And to underscore that point further, another traditional gathering which is supposed be even more cohesive than previous gatherings was scheduled to be held in Hol-hol this week to bridge differences, if any exist, between the traditional garaads and continue the strategic discussion about the city of Lasanod. The secessionist administration in Hargeysa however saw a potential threat from the sheer fact this gathering was taking place, and instructed local militias to disturb the council of elders as they assemble in Hol-hol to commence this historic meetings, resulting in some of the elders get livid with the marauding boys and deciding to continue the gathering in a more permitting environment. The question is why would any admin bother an assembly of elders discussing own affairs? The answer is simple: traditional garaads constitute powerful body of authority in that community and their decision if allowed to pass would deem those local boys hired by the secessionist admin as scofflaws, and out of the clan fence, which matters when in that region. Preempting the gathering, or so the calculation from Hargeysa went, may bring more favorable outcome than allowing this authority to influence the political matters in the region in a unified fashion which they never been able to have done. It sure is a calculated risk from Hargeysa. But the next question is was it worth taking? Time will answer that. Of course those in the Diaspora see this as a political manifestation of Somaliland’s power and strength. And they may have a point for if it had not been the Hargeysa influence on the local boys, the premature conclusion of Hol-hol gathering would have been avoided. But the fact that the Hargeysa admin resorted angering the traditional garaads is a telling sign of desperation. It may also indicate that current admin is looking for confrontation with the Puntland in order to justify another election postponement. In either case it does not bode well for Riyaale when the most respected segment of that community is forced to cancel the gathering it worked so hard to hold. ^^Good. Now we are heading the right direction. Go on Nur.

Allah @Nur's scorn Seriously Nur, it’s a shallow commentary when you post a Guardian article written by Terry Eagleton, as a response to a serous question of suicide bombing and the Islamic (theological) perspective pertaining to it. To be sure such an article can be useful for feeding the sense of injustice felt by the Muslim masses around the globe. It does very little to contribute however as to whether the said act is permissible from a theological standpoint. LX, How can I debate with you when you don’t even understand the implications of what you are saying from a theological perspective? What does it mean to say an entity is a dawlah riddah? What does it mean to say Somalia’s constitution is a constitution of Kufr? What does it mean to say current Somaliland’s constitution is a constitution of Kufr? What does it mean to say current Puntland’s constitution is a constitution of Kufr? How about the constitution of Yemen, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, etc? Are they all constitutions of Kufr? What is the religious implication of such verdict? Do you understand what you are saying adeer? Of course I know that you are propagating a Takfeeri message that deems all entities kufr based on the Takfeeri understanding. I shared with you the tafseer of the verse they cite. I shared the salafi exegesis of the jurisprudence of Takfeer. But you are resolved to push certain views. And BTW, I don’t know you as person, but the LX persona is dangerously misguided about what it means to be Muslim, the priorities of Muslims, and even the objectives of Islamic religion. And that my friend I derive from the writings and postings of SOL.

^^Nur, you promised that you are going to respond to the dawlah riddah thread, maaha? Please don’t waste your time on parallel threads, offering shallow commentaries on this weighty issue. It requires more than hebel waa gaal iyo dawlad fulaan waa gaalo. There is no debate to be had here as far as I am concern. It's another takfeeri shout LX, you are at it again. What you are saying, ya LX, is what the typical Keligii Muslims say all the time. It’s what is used to justify the blood of Muslims near and afar. We have expounded this issue on the Dawlah Riddah thread, giving you what scholars said about this question, but you clearly chose to propagate the takfeeri ideologies, whose violent manifestations Somalia is experiencing today.

^^Ragga go’ayow, you must bear in mind that it’s not xiinfaniin that is accusing Siilaanyo for his somaliweyn tendencies. It’s your president that is hinting that Siilaanyo is a closet unionist. Deal with that fact without resorting to the it’s-election-year spin. We are not even sure if it’s election , or are we?

Notwithstanding political spins Ina Abdi Rashid mustered in the article above, the passage below contains real truths. Given the complex and extremely difficult circumstances that recent events have so graphically illustrated, achieving all this will be an extraordinary challenge. It will require the combined effort of the whole Somali people, as well as assistance from outside. Only in partnership with all Somalis and the support of the international community will success be possible. It will take time, determination and patience but it can be done. Let us all take up this challenge. Let 2010 be the start of something new.

The demise of the TFG and the return of the warlords (AHSW)
xiinfaniin replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Che, waa hagaag. Suffice to say that the author is feigning of appearance of knowing what he is talking about whilst it is evidently clear that he is not. Somalia is not down because the world has intervened, as this author suggests. To the contrary the world has convinced itself, quite erroneously, that it could contain the ‘Somali problem’ without committing too much treasure or political capital, consequently condemning the country in the most untenable state. That is to say, the world failed to take Somalia seriously and help it come back in a significant way. The notion that suggests let the Somalis fight it out, till they settle their disagreements, is ridiculously bogus, and transparently dishonest for it conveniently presupposes that Somalia and its people has no bearing to the geopolitical interactions that surround it. Although the decline of Sharif’s tfg appears to be swift, the basic formula to reach political settlement on which it was inaugurated remains fundamentally unscathed. When all is said and done, dialogue, and compromise are the only means to reach a just, political settlement. All is not lost, adeer. While the south still burns, those in the North and East enjoy relative peace and stability for which we all need to appreciate. Add to that the fact most Somalis have similar diagnosis as to what is preventing peace to take hold. The violent methods widely used by alshabaab have been roundly rejected. We are not worse than we were before, and in my estimation the political bottlenecks are about to ease. So easy with the premature obituaries awoowe -

Siilaanyo, as we said many times on these pages, is the only living leader in that part of country with relatively huge base of supporters who can reverse Somaliland’s steady march to the inevitable political cliff. Election or no election, the thorny quandary of the secession question cries for a careful resolution, and Siilaanyo may as well be the only man capable of standing up for the masses, and against the elites. Vote for Siilaanyo al-Suumaali, we say
