  1. Abtigiis, I am sure you know this, but the reason this song wins my vote is in twofold; 1) it was sung by young kids (I love kids and the anaashiid they sing), 2) and more importantly it represents an era when Somalia was a relatively powerful state, the lyrics make it clear and the threats were credible at the time. The beauty of these lyrics is although our quarrel was with one country, the author decided to talk over Ethiopia and converse with the audience at the wider continent, Africa. Africa listen, and be informed, He who desires our lands, we refused He who murdered our brethren, we noticed His intentions and provocations, will be responded Africa listen, and be informed, ......

If you are resolved to readily accept and believe what Siilaanyo says in public and take it at face value, you are blind folding yourself. Especially in the context of Siilaanyo being the politician who occupies the highest post of that regional office. Yours is beyond taqliid ninyahow . EDIT: Jacpharow, hadddaan ku arkay ii waran awoowe? NGONGE waa faa idey oo afsoomaaligu buu bartay, laakin nin baa lumiyey. 4. Profasoore I begun to like your deep seated nationalism. In that note, this song captures your sense of confidence. Speaking of Mahiga, I don't hate the brother for he is merely representing the wishes of UN Security C for Somalia. He facilitates UN agenda. But Somalis were over the top in their embrace of him. And I mean SOMALIS (Landers, Punts, Benadirs, Southerns ...). They danced for him, and that was disgrace wallaahi. But the message he communicated was not bad. The world is tired of Somalia, and they want to leave it to her self.
  5. ^^Jacaylbaro likes Mahiga massages :D He rightly says 'recognition' is beyond me. He says he respects the identity of Somali people. PS. the man met with most of Somali regions , we shall watch for selected clips procured to support own position.

  7. ^^Agreed with the Somali failure. That is beyond discussion now, it is being discussed to death before. But I still want to grasp why a road map to end the transitional status of Somalia is not embarrassed. If it is not Mahiga and the UN,as you say, and Somalis failed to come together by themselves, AND the UN is the caretaker entity anyway, what is wrong with the notion of saying: we've been baby sitting this TFG thing for 7 years now and we want to go beyond that and hold a conference between Somalis so they can flesh out and decide core issues perhaps with the exception of secession question, and move forward with the establishement of a non transitional government?
  8. NGONGE, Yes I read what Siilaanyo had to say on the Turkish scholarship. No doubt that the old man is a reasonable man. But he is boxed in politically. You, good NGONGE, are a reasonable man who chose to support most absurd of assertions. Turkiya does not recognize you, so it will therefore not accept your claim of statehood. You understand that, and Siilaanyo understands it. Even if you are resolved to defend these claims for entertainment sake as Liqaye suggests, the symbolism of last few days are undeniably remarkable. Take a note who got to do the 'dardaaran' to Somali students, it was Somali president Mr. Sharif. Also take a note of what Passport these students used to travel. It was Somali passport. And finally, the symbolism of Mogadishu once again being the center, and the capital of Somalis where all students come to depart from TOGETHER, is symbolically important.
  9. This is not a bad response given the circumstances. But it lacks Faroole's flamboyant tone, which makes a bit ineffective. Seriously, Siilaanyo had to do this. Any serious political adviser would have counseled the old man to engage in the political discourse and the new narrative surrounding Somaliland's recent activities. The facts are facts however. To say Turks accepted a passport of a country that is yet to be recognized by the world is a transparent lie. The old man could have phrased his response more cleverly.
  10. Interesting read. When I read comments like Ms. Frazers I really think that if Somalia survives and comes out of this tragedy as she will one day, I think she will have to thank Alshabaab, Piracy and Famine. Those three forces unlike other factors made bold statement about the Somali conflict, the subtitle of which is and remain to be: that Somali tragedy is NOT going away quietly, it refuses to go away, it is here to stay, and it is such a prime location that the world can not pretend it does not notice.
  11. ^^Please clarify. Which one is it? 1) That the proposed all inclusive conference is not intended to end the transition whatever the reason may be (i.e. UN wants to own Somalia for the foreseeable future) or 2) Mahiga wants to stay on his post and will do whatever in his power to prolong the civil war for his own self aggrandizement. P.S. I don't really put that much into Dr. Michael A. Weinstein's essays.
  12. ^^I wasn't talking about Somali struggle in Ethiopia. Perhaps you feel more comfortable to articulate the righteousness of that struggle as you should. On the question of UN role, I am not sure you are feigning ignorance here but the fact is Somalis do not trust each other and have shown amazing inability to sort things out by themselves. Lest you forget, there are close to 42 presidents in Somalia each claiming this or that region. Some times a single region has feuding presidents. That they failed to compromise and accept the fact that they are in a mess is a twenty-year story. Hence the UN, and other external interventions. As Somali Diaspora, we are not in a position to dictate terms. Somali stakeholders inside Somalia occupy that position. And it is them who rely on UN money and other aid from abroad. It does not surprise me, all the major Somali political entities and serious players have offices in Nairobi to have input and at times influence on UN approach. We support the approach that says end the transitional status. The UN leads it politically: it has AMISOM forces on the ground, as a military muscle. And it has the TFG and regional states as a framework. Stop speaking like we fell in love with Mahiga or he needs our legitimacy to implement whatever UN SC prescribes for Somalia.
  13. Come to think of it that when you say, as you sometimes will, Somalis must fight their way out of this tragedy and widen the coverage of the conflict, we remind you that Somalis cannot fight today. We remind you that even the most celebrated armed struggle Somalis ever engaged (Gumaysi Caabigii Sayid Maxamed Cabdulle) in ended up in a failure, and it was the SYL's unarmed, political struggle (Gobonimo Doon) that finally succeeded to win Somalia's independence. We remind you that there is subtle difference between Gumaysi Caabi and Gobonimo Doono
  14. You guys need to understand that Ahmed Yasin is in-the-know of Somaliland affairs and he realizes the separatist movie is about to end. I am not surprised at his desperate talk.
  15. ^^ :D On behalf of Che, I apologize for Prof. Abtigiis. He has been consistent on his insistence on human dignity for Somalis where ever they are. He may sometimes get it wrong in his analysis, but on the big objectives he was right on the money. However, as the voice of reason in these boards, we sometimes disagree with Prof. Abtigiis's rebellious tone. We think Somalia is down because of the failure of her leaders. That the UN got it wrong before does not mean it will always fail. The current roadmap will not please the hardcore extremists of secessionists and alshabaab type. The rest of Somalis should be hopeful where Somalia is going now. EDIT: Sharif selected Sharmarke, Farmaajo and Gaas. He is the president for the current PM. That is just a reminder
  16. NGONGE has disappointed me as of late. The man whom I thought would be above silly egos is showing signs that he has indeed bought this 'ictiriaaf' thing. There is a region called Somaliland. There is no country called Somaliland. Only Oodweyne believes that there is a secret recognition for our norther region. Even Xaaji Xunjuf knows the truth. Why NGONGE is burying his head in the sand, and cant accept facts as they are?
  17. Somalina, what is the total students from all regions that are awarded Turkish scholarship?
  18. This is very significant ...thanks to Turkey. Erdogan meant when he said we will teach Somalia how to fish.
  19. Yunis;748447 wrote: But, there is game changing event underway, the economic outlook of most of UN’s donors are on the brink collapse. Those vital flow of money and prestige towards UN and its agencies may dry up soon.., there might be hope then, which would force us to pay attention and allow Turkey to teach us how to walk, by showing us ways of settling our differences not scores, since UN’s mandate is financially unsustainable in the long run. And it is precisely because of that realization on the part of the donor countries that Somalia cannot be contained, that Somalia's tragedy stubbornly refused to go away and stay quite, that the conflict in Somalia lashed out with vengeance and manifested itself in the form of daring piracy, dangerous alshabaab and embarrassing (to the world) famine , that the UN decided to begin the process of handing it over to Somalis themselves. As for Diaspora being part of the problem, I think that is half true and half false. The Diaspora that matters and have the administrative and technical skills Somalia needs today (the educated youth) transcend clannish boundaries that define Somalia's political landscape and it is imperative to engage that part of the Diaspora. It is my understanding that Mahiga was talking about this group.
  20. So the Turks compromised on their Visa rules simply to accommodate Jacaylbaro's/Somaliland delusions That itself is a delusion, war ragga go'ayow maad Jacayl qabataan
  21. Yunis, the point of departure of any analysis pertaining current Somali state has to be that Somalia is a failed state and UN is the sole care taker of Somalia's political affairs save from regions Alshabaab controls. Now that being the harsh reality, we are not in a position to argue who actually controls Somalia. All I was interested to know was what is the current UN agenda for Somalia. Abdullahi Yusuf's and Sharif's governments, Mahiga informed us, was orchestrated to achieve one goal: to formally bring warlords into the fold of national arrangement. Both efforts (Nairobi (Yusuf) and Jabbuuti(Sharif)) aimed not to build institutions, it was primarily to tame warlords and bring them under one tent. That was that, and it is quite telling. Now, many have realized (as many have hopped they would one day) that Somalia's problems can never be contained. So the UN is aiming to get Somalia out of the transitional status and give it back to Somalis. The growing attention from rising regional powers like Turks also helped solidify this thinking. I think this is a good reason to be hopeful about the future. Of course the Somali people have to ultimately own this and lead...
  22. ^^Yes to "Maantana waxaad ku faraxsantahay rajo ine Somaliland miis ee so fadhiisato. " Uncle Yey did his thing, and left the scene while he was ahead
  23. There is no reason to issue threats against Somaliland. Our love for Somaliland region was never in question. We want Somaliland to prosper and grow after all it is our land and people.
