Che -Guevara;754510 wrote: “We know that some Al Shaabab people have been staying here and it was a deliberate government decision to allow them to stay here, because we were engaged with them,” said Mr Onyonka. “You are aware of what is going on; this is like a big animal with a tail in Somalia. We are still fighting the tail while the head is resting here in Eastleigh,” said Mr Ojodeh. Mr Onyonka said the government would confiscate the property of the Al Shaabab members and cautioned against ethnic profiling or the harassment of innocent Kenyans :D
  5. What Prof Abtigiis does not know is our positions are not contingent upon others stance or on a mere perception of clan interest. Forget Gaas. Faroole is supporting the Kenyan invasion. For the wrong reasons. We opposed it yesterday. And we oppose it today.
  6. LOOL Kenya is assuming the role of TFG...or is this another way of saying 'give us a way out'
  7. Gaas or no Gaas, the Kenya invasion is illegal, and shall never stand. Even Kenyan's are realizing now that they've taken in a piece too big to swallow.
  8. When Kenya sent columns of troops storming across Somalia’s border on Oct. 16, government officials initially said that they were chasing kidnappers who had recently abducted four Westerners, two from beachside bungalows on the Kenyan coast, and that Kenya had to defend its billion-dollar tourism industry. But on Wednesday, Alfred Mutua, the Kenyan government’s chief spokesman, revised this rationale, saying the kidnappings were more of a “good launchpad.” ... “An operation of this magnitude is not planned in a week,” Mr. Mutua said. “It’s been in the pipeline for a while.” Many analysts wonder how Kenya will be able to defy history and stabilize Somalia when the United Nations, the United States, Ethiopia and the African Union have all intervened before, with little success. They argue that the Kenyan operation appears to be uncoordinated and poorly planned, with hundreds of troops bogged down in the mud because of rains that fall at this time every year. .... Kenyan military officials also publicly said the United States and France were helping them, but both countries quickly distanced themselves from the operation, insisting that they were not taking part in the combat. The invasion was a serious miscalculation, and the Kenyan economy is going to suffer badly, very badly,” said David M. Anderson, a Kenya specialist at the University of Oxford. .... “This isn’t about tourism,” said a senior Kenyan official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “This is about our long-term development plan. Kenya cannot achieve economically what it wants with the situation the way it is in Somalia, especially Kismayu.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/27/world/africa/kenya-planned-somalia-incursion-far-in-advance.html?pagewanted=1&ref=world
  9. Carafaat is an idle separatist by design. In the secessionist politics he is in the doghouse. But in Somali politics he is in-the-know :D Gheelle wax ha weydiin kani waa dhexyaale
  10. ^^There is no AMISOM in Galkacyo. There is no reason for that. I will not welcome if that happens, and I see no evidence of it happening.
  11. ^^Faroole is focused on fighting Alshabaab, his earlier endorsement (if there was such a thing) could be excused on the perception Kenya created , making the invasion a coordinated military activity.
  12. Surely the Kenyan invasion will have the most negative impact on Somalis in Kenya. But Somalis have shown resilience before and will overcome this as well
  13. Puntland is part of Somalia, and when it comes to foreign policy issues will stick with its national leaders , the PM and the President.
  14. Thanks Duke , This is expected from both men. It would have been shooting themselves at the foot if they embraced the illegal Kenyan invasion.
  15. ^^Thanks Libaax S. I expected as much from Abdiweli
  16. ^^Yes I am aware all of that. I am also aware the fact that the AMISOM mandate become a cover for all sorts of shady contracts and sinister mercenaries in the name of fighting terror. Without going back to what necessitated this AMISOM security arrangement, I still think as soon Somalis get out of this transitional status, this can be tackled. And it would be an easier task than had it been forces from neighboring countries. Of course like most Somalis I would have these AMISOM folks sent back to their homes if it was up to me. Reality is there is a lack of capable security forces, and if Turkey helps us train about 3000-7000, I think we could be in a position to take some of the functions AMISOM is doing today. The point I was trying to make was there is a difference between an invasion and deployment with clear mandate and terms.
  17. ^^You are right you and I have very diverging interests in relation to Somalia. You are separatist who believes dismembering Somalia is the best thing that could happen to the region. I am unionist at the core and believe a population of 10 million squeezed from the West by 80 million and from the South by 40 million can only thrive in unity. As for Xiin's intentions in taking the positions he takes and what motivates him, that my friend does not bother me. Such arguments are the trenches of charlatans and seldom do such nonsense cause me to reconsider my positions. Having said that, I would gladly welcome you back as a brother and fellow country man, anytime, to the union camp. Somalis need to stick together, and shall never splinter.
  18. ^^ :D Great post. But it confuses the issues as Johnny B called it out. AMISOM is a security arrangement that reflects the lack of genuine Somali institutions. It did not invade Somalia. It came through UN sanctioned mandate, narrow mandate at that. It is an issue nevertheless that needs to be addressed. And I am sure once Somali capacity is improved through whatever means, AMISOM will not be a difficult issue to solve. But equating AMISOM to the full Kenyan invasion is simply ignoring the facts. Other than that I share Che's sentiment, Somalis will have ultimately take ownership of their lands and politics.
  19. Mintid Farayar;754171 wrote: Let's take a step back from our parochial regional interests as Somalis and look at the bigger game for a bit.... It is interesting that is coming from Mintid Farayar!!! Somalis are small in population, a mere 10 million. There are 80 million to their West, landlocked and deprived from the sea by geography. And there are 40 million to the South. If Somalis understand that basic math in the geopolitical level, they will have a chance for survival.
  20. GoldCoast, where did the PM clarify his remarks? Although I cannot support it with facts and evidence (other than circumstantial), I believe TFG based their decision on inputs from a third country. It is not like they opposed Kenya. Without another credible support from another able source, it would've been difficulty for them to oppose Kenya. Kenya is the center of Somali power. The UN is based there.
  21. :D This is a good read. It is a serious reflection of Prof. Abtigiis' conflicting views and contradicting stances. All of sudden the good Professor cannot reason beyond clannish considerations. All the objections that were raised against Kenya's invasion and the Azania project become mere rationalanization to oppose the perceived interest of his clan. Deep down in his last layer of consciousness, Prof. Abtigiis opposes the invasion. His analysis and practical experience shows him how unworkable it will be for an state to be erected on the raw force of foreign power. Yet the essays in defense of both keep flowing from the Professor's mind, giving voice his warring thoughts. The argument is lousy, and lazy and does not stand for scrutiny. However, even most absurd of ideas are readable when expressed with such eloquence and flowery language Professor Abtigiis employed in the above post.
  22. Saaka maxaa cusub, jamaacah Prof. Abtigiis , wax war iyo wacaal ah? Ciidankii xaggee sii marayaan awoowe?
  23. ^^Waryaa I did happen to be conversing with the man above you Adiga maanta dhiiggaaga meel la saro ma leh, you are high with clannish fervor
  24. MMA, The PM lost it but he can come back by differentiating between good relationship with Kenya, and Kenya's invasion and circumvention of TFG. The Zack, have you seen how Sharif's minister of Defense is welcomed in Turkey and the Generals who dined with him?
  25. ^^Good Stoic, I want to you know that region has gone beyond clannish politics. My friends are dreaming of the past experience, which is not healthy
