Politics at its best; big clans scramble to get the math right in the speakership election. Dr. Galary and Prof. Jawaari are rumored to have most votes. Shariif Hassan is shaping up to be the shrewd player. Sharif Ahmed is down , but not out. He has yet to defeat technicality hurtles cleverly set up by Abdiweli and Mahiga. In short Sharif is running out of time. But he is still hugely relevant in tomorrow's contest. It will be fun to watch...

AllPuntland is in a campaign mode for Prof. Abdiweli...they are throwing a raw meat for his base. Hence this article and the ones like it. There is no giving up; there are maneuvers and moves, tweaking and adjusting as the stakes are higher than they ever were. But this exposes one cardinal truth; Puntland in Garoowe in not necessarily in sync with the Diaspora fueled campaign in Mogadishu.

Abwaan, forget about Mooge's Nairobi coffee shop talk, and tell us the real H community math and political scheme in Mogadishu My assumption (correct me if I am wrong) about Galayr candidacy, which is the real political game changer here, is that Sharif Ahmed is supportive of it and will deliver the numbers to realize it. If that is not the case, Galayr's momentous rise will have the effect of a shooting star---will vanish in seconds...

On the short term, potential, alliance I suggested for Abdiweli and Farmajo, which Khadar and Abwaan depicted as something that cannot be worked out, here is a brief rationale for it: Galayr's success will eliminate both Farmaajo and Abdiweli as both will be eliminated on technicality, It is therefore reasonable for both camps to collaborate to stop him succeed. They could agree (could they not?) that is it is in their interest to prevent their presidential hopes from be being aborted as Galayr's candidacy would surely do. Ponder on that rationalization, and tell me, good Abwaan, what is so delusional about it! Same goes to brother Khadar! I agree Sunday it is the day to watch. The speaker election is becoming more interesting, more exciting than the president's election.

^^Khadar, you need learn one or two about politics. There is a clear alliance between and Sharif Ahmed and Galary, which I think is perfectly fine and could indeed prove to be a political master stroke. Abdiweli is in the ring, and will inevitably try countless permutations before he arrives a winning strategy to snatch the top post from Sharif's jaws. If Sharif Hassan figures in that strategy, it shall so be it. If Farmaajo fits the bill , likewise. But it should not surprise anyone that different moves and maneuvers will be tried and perfected to attain the objective. Galayr and Abdukarim has played the game very welll ( I mean it). Think about this one for a sec: many thought Taleex will be translated into an active armed rebel, but it was even pregnant with bigger stuff: they (ali and abdikarim, amongst others) devised and successfully carried out a more practical strategy to ensure political relevancy in what truly is a disputed territory with no mechanism for governance or revenue sources. They found Mogadishu and its intriguing political games, and as a result, the biting on Faroole's back is quite evident.

Abwaan, for the record I am not upset about Galary candidacy. In fact I am not upset about anything. You seem to be dwelling on generalities awoowe. It is not healthy to assume that all of us are against Galary because we share the big tent that is D As for your professed support for this unknown, obscure guy called Looyaan, I don't really know what to make of it. I see him as a spoiler candidate launched to shoot down Farmaajo's more serious candidacy , and I am not questioning your intentions

Zenawi’s Death: The Futility of Enlarging an Enclave Hero

^^ :D The big foot has evolved in many ways. The next decade is shaping to be theirs. Perhaps, as the Faroole well spurred water instead of oil, I shall reconsider my next move. Sharif and Abdiweli are two Somali politicians, one is armed with western credentials while the other is clearly inclined with Arabic literature and some degree of Islamic knowledge. I am afraid I will have to wait before I show my hand -
Dr. Galayr is a former prime minister of Arta government, respected academic, and controversial politician. His candidacy is by far the most interesting as it stirs the pot in a way that could reset the political variables quite significantly. If he wins it will be the first time the block settles for less than the two posts of the country ; president or the pm. Some say his candidacy is inline with what the International community envisions for the country for the first four years--muzzling the big clans in order to rebuild the trust amongst Somalia's various community. His candidacy has immediate effect as well for if his wins, it will be a huge political come back for his Khatumo base as it knocks Prof. Abdiweli out of the race, and rubs Faroole's political sore points ... Political ramifications aside, whether he has the real math with him is hard to tell. Sharif Ahmed will probably support him if a bit weary. Sharif Hassan will not lose much in supporting him as it solidifies his candidacy, narrowing the field. Farmaajo and Abdiweli will fight real hard to shut him off , and will probably be able to convince large block of the constituencies to work against him. In any case, Dr. Galayr's candidacy is a not to be take lightly and is indeed a very serious development. How he fairs in the contest is very hard to predict.

The Candidates Prof. Jawaari, a former Barre regime figure , and a native of Bay and Bakool region, his candidacy is rumored to be supported by Sharif Ahmed, the current sitting president, to deliver a fatal blow to Sharif Hassan's bid for the top post. His popularity in the political base remains to be seen. He is up against the well oiled political machine that is Sharif Hassan. The political psychology of moving up on the ladder and vying for the highest post for his community as proposed by Sharif Hassan's presidential candidacy could prove a hurdle for Prof. Jawaari. However, as Sharif Hassan's political nemesis increase in number, so do the support for Prof. Jawaari from other presidential candidates constituents. It is hard to predict how he will ultimately fair in this contest.

Somalia will select its first post transition speaker on August 26th. This is very important event as it signifies the end of an era. The Parliament will convene its session in the capital city where the rule of warlords once reign supreme. Also, the election of the speaker will either enhance or dim the chances of some of the presidential candidates. For example if Dr. Galayr or MP Xidig wins the speakership, Prof. Abdiweli, the sitting prime minister and one of the serious contenders for the top post, will be eliminated on technicality. Likewise if Prof. Jawaari wins the speakership, Sharif Hassan, the outgoing speaker, will be eliminated as a presidential candidate. So in a way, the contest for Somalia's parliament speaker has garnered excitement and interest from political analysts. Waa inoo halkan yaa jamaacah. If you have live coverage links please post it here. Libaax Sankataabte, awoowe soo aruuri wixii links ood hayso ama heli karto . There are Somali news portals that may be allowed to broadcast live from the session .
