The news that is coming from Mogadishu is quite pleasing. By any measures and, by any standard, age , education , demeanor, and experience, president Hassan's PM choice exceeds my expectation. I am sure, if the news holds true, it will aslo exceed the expectation of the most Somalis. Not only does it represent the change we've been yearning , but it also represents a political courage on the president's part. Lets wait Friday or Saturday ... If you need some cues , the new PM is highly educated, well versed with Somali language and culture, has a solid experience ...plus his selection will quite down a vocal community in very important area

Breaking news fighting inside Kismayo the moment of truth

Kenyan's has the airport and the harbor. These two national assets contributed to the misery of the city as clannish militias fought over the control of them... -

I support Azania /Juballand now. Opposing it now is akin to opposing Somalia's political progress. Kenyans are wearing UNISOM hats and are no longer different than the ones occupying Merca. For now both are good for Somalia. I don't know what the president said but he is opposing the looming federal state of Kismayo ...he is indeed making a big mistake.

Somali President speaks to the UN.. What did he say?
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
^^By far your link houses the best rebuttal I have seen in this fora . No wonder brother Raamsade abruptly departed from the post Way to go brother Daauud -
Our northern brothers need to understand that Somalia will treat them justly and with dignity. Federalism is what Somalia's political stakeholders agreed to end the transitional period. Somalis will go to the polls come 2016 to ratify the federal constitution. Carafaat should understnad that.

COMMUNIQUÉ on Secretary-General's Mini-Summit on Somalia
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I can recognize Clinton, Mursi, Erdogan, Ashton, Kibaki , the Ethiopian prime minister...think British Foreign Minister is there as well. All having a stand-up meeting on Somalia with Somali delegate: that is really great change from how Somali issue was treated few years back. -

Somali President speaks to the UN.. What did he say?
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
^^Agreed. When you really look at it Somalia is not a poor country by design; fishery, livestock, and agriculture, not to mention potential of recoverable metals, oil and gas plus a relatively small population with a long history of trade and entrepreneurial tradition --makes Somalia a rich country indeed. So good days are ahead of us (don't mind NGONGE, he is a mere contrarian ) -
Somali President speaks to the UN.. What did he say?
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Some countries may choose to fund Somalia through third party , but other countries especially countries like Turkey and Britain will most likely provide direct funds to the new Somali government. The UN role as the ultimate overseer of Somali affairs has been ended by the completion of road map. Many countries will position themselves as friends of Somalia and will provide direct financial assistance. That is how leverage and influence are bought and sustained. -

Has the President of Somalia declared war on Puntland ?
xiinfaniin replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I think it that reporting is rather reflective of Mogadishu's sentiment, not the President's. -

The Somaliland-Somalia Talks: Myths vs Reality
xiinfaniin replied to Mintid Farayar's topic in Politics
So the question remains: How is it possible for those who are not even allowed to determine their own political direction and the implementation dates of their political actions (the world's only officially declared failed state) to be in a position to decide on the fate of Somaliland? This supposition is simply a concoction held in the egos of a frustrated diaspora. You wouldn't ask this question, had you known that your entity is amongst 'those who are not even allowed to determine their own political direction' . . And that simple fact, my friend, makes your differentiation between Somalia and Somaliland an attempt of a distinction without a real difference. -
Breaking News: Farmajo nominated as the new Prime Minister

Faroole waxaa laga hayaa : Ogow waa siganaye'e -
it's time to end Faroole's regime and bury the federal clan system.
xiinfaniin replied to Carafaat's topic in Politics
Despite the noise, Faroole proved to be a shrewd politician who not only takes advantage of opportunities when presented, but constantly positions himself to shape events into his liking. Today, his initial involvement in state making efforts gives him unprecedented leverage. Notwithstanding his fast tongue, his understanding of basic politicking is quite amazing. If politics is measured by possession, the man still has the ball with him. President Hassan is forced, by the circumstances, to work with him on forming the upper house, on completing federal states , and engaging Somaliland. That is the reality -
Farmaajo was a great prime minister and will be one given the opportunity again. He faces two major obstacles however . For one, his relationship with Puntland is nonexistent if not bordering hostility , and for the other, his views on federalism, the political framework on which Somalis decide to adopt are not practical. Plus he can hardly constitute the change that characterize the new president. But I am sure history will honor him on his bold acts in shrinking the size of cabinet and bringing educated and honest men on board.
