I do not understand what the big fuss here is for the president to so strongly object to the Kismayo initiative. Surely it cannot be Kenyans, for Kenyans enjoy the same exact mandate as the Ugandans do. It smells tribal to me… Now there is legitimate argument to be had on the whole issue of federalism and whether it is a good fit a model for Somalia and her clan oriented politics. The Somali government has four years to prepare the country for a referendum on the constitution, and with it the federalism question. But how could one do that when one is busy aborting the whole thing at the get go. Apparently the president’s raw politics need of improvement. One can be against something and work toward changing it without squandering the goodwill of Somali people in his election, or arousing suspicion of his integrity. Kismayo admin is on track. Kismayo argument is larger than Ahmed Madoobe and President Hassan; the entire post transitional political framework hinges on it. It shows lack of respect on President Hassan's part on the federal agreement. So if onyone will be forced to back down it will be the FG in Mogadishu.

Chimera, you are not a tribal person. We know you long enough in these boards to know that. I have not given up on this president yet. But it is my opinion that he is not only wrong on Kismayo , but he is also bordering becoming a tribal leader based on his attitude toward the pending new admin, which has been in the works well before president Hassan come to office. It is also astonishing Abwaan, walaalkiis , Eng. Cadde, whom I assume are more supportive of the president than most, do not see president's folly on display with respect to Kismayo.

In the politics of South Central Somalia, Kismayo represents a tragedy that stubbornly refuses to go away. It has a long history of clan fight, and the president unfortunately is on the wrong side of the political equation. Instead of working to abort the process, he had the opportunity to champion it and refuse the clannish whisperers that seem to have gotten his ears . I really doubt the scenario you painted will come to pass. Even if Madoobe is sidelined, the story of Kismayo will gain traction in the most negative way, and the president and his men will have squandered a golden opportunity to lead. But all is not lost, and I still have the hope that things will just work themselves out. Reality will sink in.
