  1. I utterly despise FAMILY GUY, that is the most unoriginal show ever! Right after the Simpsons' is finished I change the change. I especially hate AMERICAN DAD, that is so dull and did I say unfunny?
  2. Alhamdulilah I don't shake hands especially with guys lol. 9)Daily you will breath in 1 liter of other peoples' anal gases. that is gross! akhas, uff!
  3. My worst travel experience was when I was coming from Toronto to the states. I had to take greyhound!! The greyhound customs station in Michigan was not very lovely. I was wearing black abaya, with a long hijab, they took us to the back, these two custom ladies frisked us and lo and behold they didn't find any WMD. I was stuck there for 3 hours, and from then on I decided to never take greyhound to Toronto, I will take the plane next time, insha'Allah.
  4. I'm bored at my desk as well...long day, hence my postings are increasing on SOL.
  5. I truly admire somali women who wear their big jilbab, and don't care about other people. Even though I wear khimar, and try to dress modestly, I always try so hard to look "perfect", it's so weird because I'm supposed to be covering up and not worry about it, but my khimar has to be tied a certain way  SubhanAllah! I really need to reevaluate what the heck I'm doing.
  6. in surah Israa please read ayah #4 to #6, you can find the translation even online..it deals with this 'don't f with us' thing.
  7. i heard musharaf is a munafiq, and non-muslim as well, anyone heard this? p.s. he doesn't care about his people,i wouldn't be surprised if the US does him like they did Saddam.
  8. The Quran prophesizes many of the things we're going through right now, you should read the translation of surat Israa.
  9. Oh I've been throught that. I remember a while back I wanted there was a little discussion on siyasadaa somaliyeed so I wanted to partake in this, when I added my fikrad, the guys said I'm not even "somali enough", can you believe they tried to take me out of my own ethnicity which is rightfully mine.Sometimes I also feel like I have my own culture, but I think I'm not along in this new culture of growing up in the west and being somali,I've met many people who are in the same boat as me and I'm very happy to see that I'm not alone. I never have felt "western" even though I've been here almost my whole life, mostly because certain characteristics of the west contradict my deen, such as social drinking, dress, you name it. (e.g. I’m too fat; loose some weigh ) the battle of the bulge, don't we all want to win!
  10. I just came across this little article and it got me thinking about how being a minority especially in a culture that is not natively yours can cause self-hatred to enter your heart. I always thought I was immune to this, I always loved being somali (even though I'm more proud to be muslim first), but I began to see how I would always compare my culture to western culture, how if my people only behaved this way we would be somehow more better and so on. I never really thought it was self-hatred, but I'm guessing maybe self-hatred comes in different forms. Then I notice how our culture views certain things and that itself is "self-hatred", for example, how having lighter skin is equated with being beautiful. I don't agree with that because I know many dark dark skinned women who are more beautiful than the lightest girl.I also notice, especially with African Americans when they talk about their ancestors they only mention dutch, german, scottish, irish, italian, norwegian, swedish, findish, europeanish side, but never really mention their west african heritage. I'm not trying to offend anyone, and I hope you didn't take any offence to my post, I'm just reflecting on things around me.But here is that article I read: Self-Hatred: Are You Immune? Name: fenix 14/1/2006 (19:13) GMT Reply We are urged, sometimes required, to be more, better, faster, nicer, stronger, even perfect. "I'm ****** ", "I'm no good, I can't do anything right". Society today produces tell us we are damned if we do and damned if we don't, and, even worse, damned if we are and damned if we aren't. "I'm not pretty enough", "I'm not young enough", "I'm not thin enough", "I'm not wealthy enough", I'm not white enough. Conformity, to belong to the herd, has never more prevalent a product of the politics of fear. Whether it is because of ones gender, ones age, ones race, ones ethics, ones religion or ones interests; one begins to see ones self through whose eyes? With the feeling of guilt at betraying ones self and betraying others one feels more self-hate. Alcohol, drugs, pornography or become the bully, the abuser or participate in some violent activity are just some of the obvious ways. One pays the price and censors ones self by shifting to the realm of the seemingly powerful/influential; and no matter what one does there is still no justice. In fact one perpetuates injustice. When you think about someone or a group of people does your mind fill with self-righteous anger? Who fills you with anger? Who do you try to put down everyday? What do you hate? What do you hate about yourself and why?

  12. Somalia faces many of the problems many of the muslim ummah is facing. Muslims are oppressed by their leaders and superpower western countries, dropping bombs on innocent villagers. Insha'Allah I hope muslims unite and justice and Islam covers the earth.Ameen.

  14. I wouldn't blame the Saudis, with a gathering of over 2 million people of course there will be death. There are many deaths in sport domes yet most of it might not always be reported. The Saudis have done more than enough, but it is Allah that brings death people. Yes, I think it's a blessing to die in Hajj, because those whose Hajj Allah accepts go to Jannah.
  15. ^ameen ya rab! And may Allah make us firm in our deen and imaan!
  16. Layzie..check this out for proof Surprising Cure for type 2 diabetes
  17. Layzie...type 2 diabetes can be cured. I read many articles from health sources that state this. Many people's type 2 diabetes has been cured with significant weight loss. However, type 1 diabetes doesn't have a cure.I guess you are thinking about type I.
  18. Although it's sad that many of our Nigerian brethren have missed hajj due to lack of organization..They received good news by having more converts for EID ! ---------------------------------- 10 Nigerians Revert to Islam, Doubling `Eid Joy By Khedr Abdel Baki, IOL Correspondent ABUJA, January 12, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – A Christian family has declared reverting to Islam during `Eid Al-Adha prayers in the Nigerian capital, doubling the joy of Muslims, raising the number of reverts in the spiritual occasion to 10 and maintaining what has recently been an annual tradition in the most populous African state. "The committee of Da`wah (Call to Islam) and Fatwa in the mosque received after `Eid Al-Adha prayers at Kowali district a man called John who wanted to declare embracing Islam, along with his wife and five children," Sheikh Abdul Salam Mohamed Okeiny, imam of the central mosque in Abuja, told IOL Thursday, January 12. Okeiny added that John who is a cab driver in Abuja chose to be named Abdul Rahman after becoming Muslim, asserting the man came to the committee out of his free will asking to meet the imam and requesting to immediately declare embracing Islam. "John did not want to miss on that spiritual moment and desired to make public the true feelings he and his family have been holding towards Islam." The central mosque preacher added that after John took the testimony (declaring that he believes no god but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is His Seal of Prophets), the revert excused himself to go bring his wife and five children to follow suit. On his motives, Abdul Rahman said he had some ideas and concepts about Islam through his wife who used to work among Muslims and used to express her admiration of what she saw. Tolerance Obasanjo apologized to Muslims who missed Hajj this year. Okeiny, citing his discussion with Abdul Rahman, said that the new revert had a car crash months ago and his Muslims neighbors were there for him, regardless of religious beliefs. This situation, according to Okeiny, opened John's eyes to the tolerance and generosity of Islam and Muslims. In addition to John and his family, another Nigerian lady, 39, declared embracing Islam also before the committee of Da`wah and Fatwa in Abuja. Grace, now Fatimah, said she now wishes to perform Hajj and to find a good Muslim to marry her and teach true Islam to her as she has been divorced from Christian husband for long. According to IOL Correspondent, two university students, from the Ibo Tribe with a Muslim minority, also declared embracing Islam at Maboushy mosque in Abuja Wednesday, January 11. It has almost become a habit for Muslim religious occasions to witness the reverting of many Christians to Islam in Nigeria, says IOL Correspondent. During last Ramadan, more than 10 people reverted to Islam in the northern city of Kano. Some 13,000 Nigerian hajj hopefuls missed their chance to perform the fifth pillar of Islam their year and were stuck at Nigerian airports after the expiry of the extended deadline set by the Saudi authorities. President Olusegun Obasanjo apologized to Muslims Tuesday and blamed the firm that had been given the contract to provide the planes. Nigeria’s recent census shows that Muslims make up 55 percent of the country’s 133 million people, Christians 40 percent and animists five percent. Twelve of Nigeria’s 36 states have gradually applied Shari`ah since the return of democracy to the country in 1999.
  19. Horoscopes are haraam, and hence rubbish.
  20. Somehow I think Eid is more vibrant in muslim countries.
  21. Bisharo, you seem to be a good friend, but maybe these friends of yours are treating you like a door mat. Most people might associate being nice as being a door mat, and sometimes some people will step on you like a door mat. I learned this personally, I remember I gave this friend of mine these brand new shoes to go out with, she returned it 3 weeks later scratched up and dusty. Again I gave this girl a couple of bucks she wanted borrow, the next month she seen me she said she forgot about what she owed me...so I let it because it was only $5.You really can learn the person's integrity and character if you let them borrow money. My mom always told me..if you want to learn someone let them borrow something. Also, you have to know the character of the person, if the person fears Allah, most of the time they know according to the prophet's(saw) last sermon of returning something that was entrusted to you to its owner.
  22. Layzie Girl type 2 diabetes can be cured...It doesn't mean the person lacks all insulin, it's low insulin production. Most being can simply get rid of type 2 diabetes by losing weight or changing their diet.
