Achievement 17 Return of Public Building to Government Ministries For the first time in 20 years, Somali ministries stopped sharing offices. On January 25th 2012, the government gave families illegally residing in former government buildings 12 days to clear the premises. After the expiry of the deadline, police and security forces began implementing a large scale operation to clear government property. Civil society organisations estimate that more than 10,000 illegal residents have been removed from government buildings so far. Public- and state-owned buildings that have been cleared include the National Theatre, the old Shabelle University campus, the clothing market, the Mogadishu Polytechnic Institute, the Banaadir region administrative headquarters, "The Mother's House", an administration building in Lido and the Somali Airlines building. Achievement 16 Force UN and Mahiga to move from Nairobi to Mogadishu The United Nations Political Office for Somalia decided to move its core staff to Mogadishu after 17 years of operating from Nairobi, a genuine vote of confidence in the future of Somalia. Prime Minister Abdiweli personally lobbied UN's Ban Ki Moon to move the UN Political Office for Somalia from Nairobi to Mogadishu. Achievement 12 Oil Exploration For the first time since 1989, an oil rig was installed with Prime Minister's swift approval at the federal level. "Somali prime minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali said his government had little choice but to entice western companies to Somalia by offering a slice of the country's natural resources, which include oil, gas and large reserves of uranium. Achievement 11 Create the nation's first Technical Selection Committe A healthy nation is a nation that has legislators with integrity. "Somalia's Technical Selection Committee is charged with overseeing the selection of members of the new parliament. The committee is responsible for reviewing candidates' records and eliminating those with criminal records and approving candidates in good standing.
