  1. The article did not ask him these questions – just posting them for debate. Do you get rewarded in the afterlife for killing people on earth – even if its justified. Can this man actually refuse to execute someone if he believes they’re innocent? Does he know much about the legal procedures or the particulars of a case in terms of evidence? Can he know if there was discrimination or bias towards the accused? Read the article below from the BBC, they interview a Saudi Executioner. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/2966790.stm BBC Article
  2. Six people make the case for human rights abuse discussion amongst us. Not that their treatment is not important or anything. Let’s look back at history, what had happened in our country and the kinds of human rights atrocities that are still occurring. Recently, I heard of this case where a young Somali girl was burnt with gasoline because she had owed 21$, it’s not right. We are outraged at the Saudis, because they execute 6 Somalis, but let’s be even more enraged by what’s happening in our country – people are dying, we can’t adopt a relativist’s perspective of human rights, and clearly judging by the remarks and opinions expressed thus far, we are no longer human rights relativists, we are moving towards the universalism camp. Human rights does not only apply to Somalis outside of Somalia, it applies to those at home too, let’s not forget that. I know this might sound like I’m encouraging inflation on rights - where we overstate the rights that are being violated. Let’s not forget genital mutilation – and I know you cultural relativists are arguing human rights should be examined more carefully in different cultures. Than, let’s examine those six men, they died under Saudi law . Now all of the sudden we invoke group rights, lets not forgot those who are being abused everything in a country where procedural processing of does not exist. People die, government’s abuse citizens, people are being killed in Somali everyday, women are being sold as commodities – life sucks there. So get over the Saudi incident and stop human rights atrocities at home.
  3. Jane Jacobs - Dark Age Ahead
  4. Ngonge - your blog is impressive bro. The most serious blog i've ever come across. the details are extraordinary and rather inspiring. The style is unique – no paragraphs – do you free write?
  5. What books are you reading at the moment? – Dark Age Ahead – Jane Jacobs – I can’t really summarize, cuz my vacation didn’t start yet. But people should summarize and state your case for the book – basically is it worth purchasing or taking it out from the library.
  6. Originally posted by Alle-ubaahne: I think Pace Magazine is nothing but total obsenity and vulger to our culture. I've seen filthy girls on the first issue's cover page with a punch of American-wanna-be Somali kids! Such Qurun doesn't deserve to be called anywhat cool! Alle-ubaahne – in your terms if vulgar is teaching youths the implications of sex before marriage, alcoholism, drugs and personal discourse – than you tell me what our culture is. Our culture sweeps everything under it’s over consuming carpet – our culture is what? What is filth – like or not our youths are drinking, doing drugs and selling drugs – having sex – they are McAmericanized. I think what the publication tries to address is – getting Somali youths to recognize their condition and offer solutions to deal with those conditions. Our biggest problem as Somalis is denial – our pride produces prejudice – as a Somali professor of English literature once told me – ‘our biggest problem is the denial of our condition’. Its seems to me that your in denial – your childhood in the 80’s might have been riding camels – but welcome today’s pastiche culture of BET and glamourization of the ‘ghetto’ The people who read this particular publication are familiar with this culture – therefore, the publication that is of topic here uses the mechanisms of the modern culture it seeks to balance. The belt does not work here pal, the pen does – To recall the first issue – it was about spoken word and it featured a young Somali poet - I’d ask you one thing – produce a structured critique – your critique was rather ill-informed and poorly executed. I’d ask people to get back to the initial subject about blogs – and refrain from this topic. Alle-ubaahne you can pm me if you would like to discuss this further.
  7. sheherazade I had a blog a while back - but - at the moment i'm putting a class blog down in couple of days - soon as i recieve my grade. Its not a secret you can check my profile to see what the link is - i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post the link here.
  8. Bloggin is fun - buts its time consuming - you must update constantly. Since I stopped bloggin, becuz of the time required -adding images - and articulating your thoughts - it can take some time. So i've decided to keep an audio log instead - summarize the days events and reflections - what not. Its working so far. I recommend using digital records - not tape - cuz after a while it could cost you a lot of money buyin 'dem tapes. Digital recorders allow you to export your audio into many formats and u can keep them on a cd. i got this idea after long hours of transcribing research tapes and making audio notes - i figured - it would be even better and more accurate to document my life through audio - and it would be easier to document and review.
  9. Blogging has been the new ‘in’ thing lately. Sources estimate that there will be about 10 million blogs online in the next decade. So my question to you is this…..... Are you a blogger? Do you have a blog site?
  10. If you use your home phone to call... say Somalia it would cost you a lot of money - but if you use skype - it would be FREE - that's the difference. ----------------- Someone asked me for my username on skype - its axmedxussein - no prank calls plz. -------------------------------- Ahmed.
  11. It would be cool for people to start using the program. I started using the program just this week and its amazing. The program is free of charge - but there's a premuim option, where you can call long distance on your phone - its like purchasing a calling card, you buy it when you need it. All the information is on their site. Good luck
  12. Marshal McLuhan coined the term the medium is the message, and for Somalis the internet is truly the message – this website is a prime example. We have used this medium to its full potential – online radio, news and other information sources online. Which brings me to my point - I got this new program it works like msn – more like audio msn. [i won’t say the name due to an advertisement policy], but lets just say it’s somewhere between sky and hype. The audio quality is amazing – the sound quality is better than the phone. Here’s the thing, I used my real name as my username – the program has a search function and you can search people – like the word ‘Somali’ and every Somali person whose online we’ll appear. These people in Kismayo did that – so they dialed me up and asked if I was Somali and I told I was. They were describing the place and telling me how business was booming and that we should all go back. – So now I talk to people from the entire internet café – a lot of interesting people – some even agreed to e-mail pictures of the city – pictures of the beach, coffee shops, and the market. Y’all should try this program.
  13. It takes technology - Europe wastes 3 football fields full of food every week. They argue that its expensive to transport the food. I'd say lets invent a digital transport device - you know the sh*t that they use in Star Wars or something. Than poor people can eat healtier foods,- cuz the first world uses people in poor nations as lab rats to test GM foods.
