Jamila that is so mean! Just because we don't have the same opinions what gives you the right to label me? All the fuss over a spelling mistake? I should start all my messages by a warning: I apologize in advance for all the mistakes (spelling, grammar) as English is not my first language. Ibtisam: you think the condescending tone will help?

Why not She? some people here have not idea what it looks like. I know it was a little bit too graphic, I wasn't comfortable either when I saw them but I don't see why it should be deleted. 95% of Somalian women had it done. The remaining 5% are lucky to have escaped the mutilation. Anyway for those who want 2 see them: google "fgm pictures" and you'll get them.

FGM is also practised by somalis people living in western countries. It's not confined to Africa and Somalia. Here are some disturbing pictures of FGM: oh, no there aren't, not on SOL [ March 29, 2006, 17:29: Message edited by: sheherazade ]

The more people will talk about it, the more images they'll see, the more ashamed they will be, the better. FGM (the Type III is the worst) is so traumatising that most young somalis girls don't wanna talk about it even with their doctors, or with their mums. So they need someone else to speak for them.

Polygamy: why the abuse of a highly restricted practice in Islam?
makalajabti replied to Khadir's topic in General
Faarax: I met anothet Xalimo that I want to marry, but I still love you, and you dont have to believe me, only time will tell, but for starters here is a check for your security, I calculated your expenses for the next 5 years, then I doubled and deposited it in that account, you know, I am going to start from zero to have sacrificed that much money, its not about a strong desire for the new Xalimo, I dont know her enough, but more about a lifetime loyalty for you, short of kicking me me out or not marrying that Xalimo, I would accept any arrangement that benefits you and the kids: .......What would be your response short of falling in pieces (KALAJABIN)? I ain't sharing my skinny Faarax! I'd get a divorce and get on with my life. -

Polygamy: why the abuse of a highly restricted practice in Islam?
makalajabti replied to Khadir's topic in General
Everyone speaks from their own experience, right? Every woman I have met in a polygameous marriage was financially dependent on their husband's income: If she divorces who is going to take care of her 6/7 children, she must be crazy to kick her husband out. Added to that, tradition which recquires a woman stays with her husband and Islam which legitimatises polygamy, no wonder somali women in the past stay in these kind of marriage. I am sure all these women would have enjoyed to have their husband's attention and love solely dedicated to them and not sharing with others. Now things have changed and I don't know any Xalimos in western countries in a polygamous marriage. Do you know any polygamous marriage in the city you live in Nur and involving young people? because I have never heard of it. My point is polygamous marriage is all about money and power: men do it because they can and women are trapped because they can't afford to leave their husbands and raise their children but everything has changed now, Xalimos can live off welfare and benefit and are more likely to leave their husbands if they start talking about taking another wife. This is surely something our grandmothers couldn't afford, right?. I think people tend to downplay the money side of polygamy and like to believe that any woman wouldn't mind sharing her husband. Which is not True. I also believe that Polygamy was decided by God to find a solution to widowed women not because men have needs and like to be married to different women. Everyone has needs Nur, women might like to "try" different men too if they like it and legitimate this whole business by marrying them. Which sounds weird and amoral but well some matriarchal societies function this way and there is no more dilema in those societies than in ours. -
Top 10 excuses of Muslim Women who don't wear Islamic Hijaab!

Originally posted by Socod_badne: I was thinking: should muslim women wear the Hijab while on the net? My reasoning is this: since the purpose of the Hijab is to deter in male arousal of randy thoughts and signifying the intent of modesty, why not the on net as well. Certainlly, speaking from personal experience, some of the girls here are brashly immodest and what's more elicit incontinent salacity. Lord knows how many times this happened and felt completely impotent to do anything about it. My point is: modesty and repelling amorous eyes extends, or should, beyond the physical world... and must be extended, in the age of cyber world, to non-physical world like the internet. That made me laugh -
He did the right thing because that is the truth, most Xalimos'private parts are indeed deformed and the "cutting" and "sewing" are still going on anywhere in the World. The practice hasn't stopped and according to World Health Organisation, it will going on for the next 3 generations because even though some people speak against, it will take some time to change somalians' mentality. Let the whole World know about our plight and misery. It's time to shame somalian people. It might work as a deterrent.

Polygamy: why the abuse of a highly restricted practice in Islam?
makalajabti replied to Khadir's topic in General
Polygamy is one of the most humuliating experience a woman can go through in her life. No one can share his/her spouse, it is degrading. I am sure the hadeths on polygamy was all about survival of the human specie in times of war and death but it shouldn't be a permanent practice. In some muslim countries polygamy is banned (Turkey, Tunisia) and in other countries women can get easily a divorce if their husbands take anothe wife. If a wife is financially independent, it's more likely she seeks a divorce because her feelings are hurt or she may ask her husband to "dump" the other woman. I think things have changed, polygamy has no place in peaceful society that respects women and their rights. -

Originally posted by The Rendezvous: quote: Secondly, It will be BAD for someone to wear a Hijaab which is a symbol for a muslim lady and then found in a club..drinking ...in Prostitution...and so on .. That is Just Killing Hijaaaaaaaaab... Sorry but I have to let you know that clubing doesn't mean drinking which doesn't mean Prostitution. You put them one after the other like it was a logical path  . For prostitution, world's oldest profession is bad for everyone whether the person wears the hijaab or not. -
Since when Diraac is Unislamic? if a woman wears it with a garbasaar she is covered from head to toe. What is the matter with you people, you think only arab clothing (abaaya, hijaab) are proper islamic dress??

Young, successful, well paid: are they killing feminism?
makalajabti replied to -Serenity-'s topic in General
Blah blah, their arguments are weak. They just want to create some sensationalism, their article proves that some people can't stand successful women, men feel castrated and women jealous -

I agree with Scarlet, maybe he was violent afterwards. You know the saying: "there is what she says, there is what he says and there is the TRUTH". My advice for you is to go and see her, have a chat with your ex-sister in law and ask her nicely why she is making these kind of ugly accusations. She will tell you her side of the story maybe your brother has a dark side you don't know. Try to find a solution to their problems by convincing them to meet up and discuss the matter for their children's sake. She may stop the process after all, if she is lying she will never confess it to you but she may regret her previous actions and be reasonable.

When I read some of the messages here, I just can't believe it. How can you be pro-sharia? It's beyond my understanding. You need "Enlightenment", a new wisdom and understanding of our Religion.

My Dear beloved People, you make me laugh. Hijab is just a piece of clothing that most somali girls wear because of their parents and relative. To get some peace! In my spare time I wear hijab too just to please my parents. ....and I am not a saint!

Welcome Najib, I am a newbie here too but I already got a stalker-friend (Flip) I think that women you are talking about got some points. She is criticising muslims not Islam. And unfortunately the Muslim World got some deep issues on women's rights even though Islam is a perfect religion we cannot say the same about its followers. We should let everyone expresses his/her views so we can debate of our problems and seek some solutions.

Gosh ! And none of you have ever lived in an islamic country or have ever been subjected to Sharia law!!And you are all craving for it?
