  1. ^Ina hooyo, ma carabkaa la'dahay mise kas bey kaa tahay? Murdisho yaa dhalay? Ala ma Qardhaad aaday? That's the one place in Somalia, if ever I get the chance, I would love visit...Waa Aabahey dhulkiisa...
  2. ^It makes me question too what was he doing outside at that hour? Who hears a commotion at 5am and actually goes down to have a look? Specially at the age of 16? Shouldn't he be in bed, mise salaad subax buu usoo kacay? I know malagaaga maseegeysid, but certain things just don't make sense to begin with... Again allaha unaxariisto, hooyadiis iyo walaalihiisna ufududeeyo xanuunkooda...
  3. Sabriya, buy land where? Muqdisho? Kuwii hore oo magac yadeena ku qornaa baaban wax lagu tarin...My mom always keeps all the papers in a save place, as if one day soon Somalia (Muqdisho) will magically return to being peacful again... EDIT: You were born in Hargeysa? Does that mean you're a Somalilander?

Ma dhul labaatan sano holcaayay? Puntland baan dhul ka gadan doonaa, bal ani iyo reer bari tan nakala qabsato hala arko...
  5. Horta hore, allaha unaxariisto wiilka, cidiisana samir iyo iimaan kasiiyo... Tan xigta, caruurtii Soomaaliyeed saas bey udhamaadeen leaving hooyooyinkii with xanuun aan waligiis dhamaaneyn... Tan sadaxaad, although qalad tahay, markaan aqriyo wararkaanoo kale, wexey ila noqotay 'another shooting, another Somali youth dead', like inee wax caadi ah tahay... "We live in a ghetto," she said. "The system is designed for us to stay here. Our kids are at risk every day. There are no jobs for them. Their only opportunity is to be killed." I can't help but think wexey madowga many many years ago ku hadli jireen inaan anaga maanta ku hadloyno...It is very sad! These people do not have to live in the ghetto, guryo dowlad, just to save a buck...While on the other hand, you see those very same mothers oo hagbad after hagbad ku jirto oo meelaha ugu xun Toronto dagan...Or cid wata the latest model Honda or Nissan cars/vans oo meelahaas dagan...Ma'anigaa mise sawirkaas waxbaa ka qaldan? Aloow noosoo maciin!!!
  6. Originally posted by -Lily-: KK There is nothing wrong with the jobs you have mentioned, (factory/airport shifts). I have a lot of respect for people who are making ends meet and supporting whole families back home. They may not have the luxury to take time off to improve their situation or by the time they do they may feel it’s too late or their responsibilities may grow. Besides, not everybody is going to be a lawyer or a doctor. I didn't say there's anything wrong with the mentions jobs...But reality is how many dhaliyo wiilal/gabdho really have families back home, who solely depend on them? Give me an insy bitsy tiny break there Lily...Many of the dhalinyaro I speak of have most of their families here, if not all...Those mentioned jobs are not a way of life, there is always an alternative... Even if we go by your logic, where everyone may not have the luxury to take time off to improve their situation, who said anything about taking time off? Do you know how easy it is nowadays to study or get a formal education, if one really wants to? Many of the schools now offer classes/courses to fit your work schedule, heck even online courses are available...But then again, that's only if one wants to better his/her situation, and to try hard...Don't get me wrong I am not saying we should all be doctors/lawyers/etc. , but I am sure everyone has something they are passionate about, why not start there? Mise working at factory/car rental/airport is passionba meesheey ku dhamaato? I sure hope not... BTW, waxa igubaya is that I am sure my people (walaaleheey Soomaaliyeed) are far more capable of having better lives, only if they tried that much harder...I want to see my people succeed, so tomorrow we can be good role models for our children, just like our parents were good examples for us when we were growing up...We are the hope for our people...
  7. I am dying to get the peep-toe boots Keri Hilson is wearing in her video: Everytime I see the video, my stomach turns...They come in Black too, but I LOVE THE GREY!!!

  9. The letter the man read is long. Warqada uu ninka akhriyay wey dheertahay. The doctor wrote the letter the man read. Taqtarka wuxuu qoray waraaqda uu ninka akhriyay. The man who read the letter is dead. Ninka warqada akhriyay wuu dhintay. The man found the doctor who wrote the letter. Ninka waxa uu helay taqtarkii waraaqda qoray. MMA, aqriye is a reader, see kaa noqotay bariga? 1. strashow = facecloth 2. shoekooman = towel 3. wariya niya marskusha = bathroom fariso = sit seho = sleep Amina/Tammy, although the spelling is incorrect, you got the pronounciation part right...Here: 1. Istaraasho - Kitchen cloth 2. Shukumaan - Towel 3. Misqusha - Bathroom 4. Fariso = Sit 5. Seexo = Sleep Hayeh, yaaku xigo?

Buuxo, sadex wax baad isku lifaaqday...First, single motherka system ka dhuuqaya, kuwa aan dhibka ku qabo waa kuwa very year or second year manage to have more kids...Which hadii runta la'isku sheego means odaygii isagoo joogo bey year after year after year cunug kasoo tuuroysaa! Hadeysan caruurta afford gareen karin yeysan dhalin, hadey dhalaana caruur xaaraan lagu koriyay yaanan hadhow dheef laga sugin... Third, waalidiinta wax aan ka dhihi karo maleh, as I am sure kuligood iney nagu koriyeen to the best they could...Laakiin waa anagii inaan meesha wax ka qabsano, kana faa'iideysano fursadaha nala siiyay...Anagey tahay inaan is dhiira galino, oo aan wixii horumar ah isku caawino isuna sheegno...

I aint having none of that. Ciddii halkan inoogu timaadda should find a way to come to terms with af-Somali. Show offs! Ani miyaa mise ayaamahaan si baad u kacsantahay? 21. Originally posted by Sister1000: I know the answer is very broad. But if you had to describe somali culture, what would you say. Im not somali but Im just curious about what somali culture is like. So if you had to describe somali culture, what would your reply be? Why are you interested, if you don't mind me asking? We are very polite, addressing one another as nothing other than 'brother' and 'sister'; very respectful of our elders, calling them 'aunt' (Eedo or habaryar), uncle (adeer or abti), grandma (ayeeyo), grandpa (aweewe) - they don't have to be related to earn the title...We eat with our hands, and eat banana with almost every main course of all of our meals...Haduu ilaah kuu roonyahay, we are loud...Very loud...Alow yaadan beerka udhiman, we are all cousins if we are from the qabiil (tribe)...Maxaa kale, oh yea, tribalism has ruined our country... We eat Camel meat and milk, that's way we are all such geniuses... Men wear macawis (like a kilt, but longer and wider/bigger)...Noth ing sexy about the damn thing, that's just me...Women wear dirac (a long, very see-through material, worn like a dress) and under it they wear goorgarad and rajabeeto...lol There is also guntiino for the women (fabric/material tight around the shoulder and wrapped around the waist)... Ee bas hee intaan kabadan! What attracted me first was how hospitable and kind they were. Amina/Tammy, was it the people that attracted you first, or just one person in particular and then grew from there? BTW, I am still very impressed with your cooking (Somali dishes)...Do you speak Somali? Ciao  EDIT: To the poster, you might find this topic helpful...
