  1. Just wishing all the fathers out there a Happy Father's Day! Yes, fathers too, just like mothers deserve to be honored on their special day...We should show them our gratitude for their care, love, support and understanding...We might call them Aabo, Aabe, Abaa, Abaaba, Dad, Daddy, Papa, we love them all the same... Although, I've lost my dad (allaha u naxariistee) at an early age (in 88), I haven't forgotten all the little things he did for me: all the songs he used to sing to me (believe me his voice was sweeter than any fanaan I've heard) , all those times he acted interested to hear in what I had to say - even though he was tired, all the times he took me around the block on his motorcycle, all the times he took me to see his team practice, all little bribes he used to give me, or the smile on his face (and boy oh boy did he have the most beautiful smile ever, he truly could light up a room with just his smile) when he comes from work and sees me run to him with open arms...Believe me I can go on and on and on about my dear aabe without an ounce of shame saan uga hadlaayo una faaninaayo... Even though we express our love for our dear dads everyday, it surely doesn't hurt making them feel extra special on this special Father's Day...So every guy and gal, young or old should have a day set aside for daddy (it doesn't have to be tomorrow, just any day)...A day to treat and pamper dear ol'daddy...A day to show them just how much they mean to you...A day to tell them just how blessed you are to have a dad like him... Any loser can have a child, but it truly takes a real man, a strong man, a good hearted man, a loving and caring man to be a good father...And there is absolutely nothing more greater, nothing more blessing, nothing more joyful than hearing one's son/daughter call him Aabo, Aabe, Abaa, Abaaba, Dad, Daddy, or Papa...Just ask any father... Since I am now a mother, I plan to have a special day for my husband, just to say 'THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST DAD TO OUR DAUGHTER!!!' So, odayaasha SOL 'Have A Very Happy and Blessed Father's Day'... Ciao
  2. It is important to let children be children. At the age 4 or 5 all they should be worried about is playing with their dolls/toys or watching their favourite cartoon or playing house, not if they should remember to wear their ‘hijab’ to the playground or when going outside...They shouldn’t be burdened with religion practices or cultural believes at that early age bisinkee... Children should be Children, nothing more, nothing less...There would come a time when the child is interested/curious and will ask questions about diinta, or why his/her parents do certain things, it is at that time the parent could talk to them about it and may be (just may be) introduce certain practices if the child feels comfortable with it... When my two year old sees her father praying, she stands next to him and imitates him; or would say ’shhhhhhhhhhhhhh’ if she sees me talking while he is praying...Wax aan barnay ma'ah intaa meel la fariisanay in la aamuso markii la tukanaayo, but wax eynaga aragtay...Certain things they will pick up on their own...However, parents should never rush the growth of a child...Let them learn on their own at an early age at their own base, let them ask questions, let them be independent...It is that early age a child’s self-esteem starts to build...With children it is watch and learn, not force and learn... There isn’t a single rule or a right/wrong way of when ’hijab’ should be introduced to a child, as the beauty of our religion is its flexibly...However, I have seen too many parents forcing their children to wear it from an early age and when those children grow up ’wey tuur taan’ xjaabka. Cuz all they associate with the ’hijab’ is in lagu qasbi jiray and now that they can do whatever they want to do - heck let’s take it off - aakadhacdo. OR leave the home with their hijabs on and once they’re outside, you can bet it is ‘hijab tuurasho’ time... No wonder dhoocilo badan markey qaangaaraan, or as I like to say it 'shiirkooda markuu usoo uro' inee iska tuuraan xijaabka...

I don't know what you're talking about! Have we met? Kix kix kix... Alla idaa, them dayz were (as they say) the good ol'dayz!!!Alla maxaa wax la isku qasay, balo... 6. A three or four year old has no business wearing xijaab... Haba ixasuusin...In my old building, majority were Soomaali with large families (children under 12 or 13)...Oh lord, the girls (specially the younger ones about 3 or 4 year olds) would be wearing the most floral dress I've ever seen anywhere, with long pants (mind you if the dress is short sleeved, they would be wearing longsleeve shirts under the dress) with their hijab...And let's not forget this dress code is for all four seasons...I can still see their faces in the summer, coming back from the playground iyagoo sidii katabaan dhar loogu raray in a 30°C weather...  Kids should be kids... Grasshopper, good to see back...How are yah?
  7. LOOOOL@Castro...Wax waalan... Cadaan, that's it? I need a full report...Report on how weird them Londoners are and are different from Canadians? How small and dirty their roads are? How the hot or cold water just shuts off in the middle of a shower and etc? Come out with the good, the bad and the ugly of your trip...Me wait...
  8. I joined the gym about two months ago and haven't set a foot in it since the day I joined...I, too, have been wanting to lose some weight for sometime now...I've lost nearly 45lbs since last summer, but have been slacking as of late... Winter is a bummer, I tell yah! I've decided last week to start going to the gym, specially since I am still paying on it...I went a bought a mp3 player last week and was all set to go to the gym yesterday...After going back and forth doing laundry, and running after my two year old, I got dressed to go...You'd think I went right? NO! A friend of mine called, and I ended up going with the friend instead...Today doesn't look good, tomorrow is even worse, and I start school next Monday... Motivation, motivation, motivation is what I need...Like many others who try to lose weight and keep it off, it is easy for me to start but hardest to keep it up...And then after while, it just gets too frustrating and I lose my focus... Count me in people...May be this is the final push I needed... A weekly progress report would work just fine, me thinks... Cadaan, such a cadaan you're...No Somali would be brave enough to start such topic here...Thanks bro...And should I succeed this time with my goad, I'll have you to thank for...
  9. ^Ahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...Daabacaada CNN and AlJazeera inee SOL qabaan ma ogo miyaa LST? Tabakaayo uga furan yaaqoo - toloow what's the breaking news tonite? Teeda kale, Castro, xaa Russian guy meesha soo galiyay? From experience miyaa?

Sharaftii baa dhulka iga dhigtay, tol ba'ayeey... Oh BTW, some are just funny by nature (ie KK); and some try too hard to be funny to suite others or fit in... PS, it is said 'laughter is the best medicine'...Some should try it...Not force it, but just try it...Even in the politics section...

  14. Miftaaxal-Jannah, magaca aaba idilay!!!Iyaah...LOOOOL So we have 'good girls gone bad' situation miyaa? Bal, let's put the girls aside for one quick second...Now MONEY, what I don't understand here is, it is one thing to see your cousins drink/smoke, but totally a different thing for you to watch them drink/smoke, take the time to learn the different names of the drinks (wedding cake anyone? ), or which drink has the most alcohol, or what they add to their shiisha, or what they call it and why...Waxaasoo dhan intaa kasoo dhageysatay, lasoo qasatay, didn't say anything at the time, and from what I am understanding you had fun on your trip there, you come here and ask for maxaa sameeyaa? So I am like, if they could make me do all of these bad habits in such a short time, won't it be easy for them to influence my sis who be sharing apartment with them? Noone can make you do anything you don't want to do...You did it all on your own...You enjoyed it...Move on...I say this cuz if you felt the opposite, this thread wouldn't have existed...May be you enjoyed it a bit too much and feel guilty about it? You should have done what ever it is that you were suppose to do, as an older cousin/brother, while you were there...When you first saw them get the drinks, you should've said something...When you first saw them smoke the shiisha, you should have said something...Not now, and DEFINATELY NOT HERE!!! Like you said, and it is probably the case, your sister isn't as clean as you might think...If she doesn't agree with what they do, she would have been elsewhere, and not living with them...The way I see it, if young guys/gals are away from home, have all the freedom they need, you can bet your life there would be some extra-curriculum activities going on in their lives...And usually, those who move away from home to go to school at another city/state/province, have more reasons behind their move than just school...I am not saying this is the case for everyone, but most are... Talking to both your parents and your cousin's parents is the only answer...Tell them the truth and let them decide what it is they should do...I really don't think they can do anything about it, I mean if they allowed for their young daughters to move so far away from home and on their own, there isn't much they can do...It is not like the family can pick up and move there; or make their girls move back home and start school there...If they cut them off financially, as they say 'where there is a will, there is away'...Heck, if they wanted to, they could've done what ever it is they are doing while living right at home and the parents wouldn't know...Just the things these youngsters are capable of these days...It is the sad reality! Good luck.
  15. Najeynaa yaa rabi, waaba dhididay by the time the video was done...Shiiiiiiiiiiiish, were you wearing mittens too? What is the guy's name? Did I hear you say Ahmed Community? Kix kix kix...
