  3. Woke up early to see if classes were cancelled...No luck...Got ready, left the apartment, heated the car and headed for the road...Soon as I came out of the underground garage of my building, it was starting to snow pretty badly, with winds and poor visibility (just like they said on the damn news  )...I put my car on reverse, turned around and went back in to the garage, parked my car and came back upstairs...All the while thinking 'Waxaan horay ubaran waayay maanta kaliya ima dhaafeyso ee screw school'!!!

  10. When requesting someone to add you as a friend to their list, it might help if you told just who you are...At least your SOL nick! I don't know why people want to hide and still request to be added... Here's the story: Usually when I receive a friend request from anyone, I send an email to the person asking who s/he is...Now, most reply and tell me with no hesitation...Others, well let's just say, like to beat around the bushes for reasons unknown to me...They would send replies like 'You're one of my fav sol member' OR 'you're my fav Ayeeyo' OR 'Someone who knows you', oh my absolute fav (ookii ugu dambeeyay ah) 'just wanted to see your pic once you accepted'? In such situations I just tell them 'inaa itaqaanid ma xumo, but qofaan ogeen wuxuu yahay kuma darsado ee thank you, but no thnx' and block them... Here's where it gets sweeter, I recently did that - qof baan block saaray after few exchanges of asking who he was...Qofkaan block gareeyay went to such length as creating a bogus account (or may be he had a 2nd account) to send me a message, not to request another add, but inuu i aflagaadeeyo...How juvenal is that? I know qaraar baa intaa ka keenaya, laakiin maxaa ku kalifaaya inuuba dhibkaas is mariyo? As for those who are on my list already, they are all sweethearts...So far!
  11. LG, I am not panicking...Not really...I would've been more panicked if I lived in Vegas... Not a big fan of shaah...A large cup of coffee and a Nigerian movie that's three or four parts long will do just fine as well...
  12. According to the latest estimates, here's the timetable. Friday 8am: Light snow starts as the commute heats up. It may slow you down, but depending on how quickly it moves in, you should be able to make it into work O.K. Total accumulations early on: about a trace-2cm. 11am: Snow intensifies, becoming heavier and beginning to bog down roads. At least 3-10cm can be expected during the heaviest period. 4pm: Rush hour begins and for many, it's the last one before Christmas vacation kicks in. But it won't be an easy ride home. The snow that's already fallen during the day is expected to wreak havoc on the commute, as it blows around. Things start to taper off to light snow, with an additional 1-3cm. 8pm: The snow finally ends but the clean-up will be complicated by gusty winds blowing up to 50 kilometres an hour. That's enough to create white-outs in some areas and tricky travel conditions for just about everyone. Winter tires are a good idea and so is making sure your windshield washer fluid is topped up. Police are already pleading with drivers to take it slow and with the expected road conditions, you really won't have a lot of choice. Saturday: Will dawn clear but very cold, with highs only of -7C for the day and bitter wind chills. Despite that, it will be the best day of the weekend. Sunday: Temperatures warm up to the norm of 1C, but more snow is expected to begin later in the day. This storm won't be quite as bad but it will add to the already high piles, leaving an additional 5-10cm in its wake. A lot of it could fall overnight and into Monday making for yet another potentially miserable drive to the office. Tuesday and Wednesday: More flurries are in the forecast, although it won't be the same intensity as what we just went through. It could snow on Christmas Eve and the chances of a White Christmas seem almost inevitable. Friday's storm is expected to also cause trouble at Pearson International Airport and Air Canada has already put out a travel alert, advising passengers there will be no charge for rebooking a flight for an alternate day. See where the warnings apply. This major blow comes at a terrible time, with this weekend expected to be one of the busiest of the year at PIA as Christmas vacationers look to get away from winter and hit the beach somewhere warm. But in this case it appears getting there may not be half the fun. Link How depressing reading this!!! Specially since I've been looking forward to the start of my christmas break from school, starting tomorrow...
  13. For the past couple of days it has been said on the news that Toronto and its surroundings will be hit hard...My husband is scheduled to fly out tomorrow, but with all the warnings and articles like the one below, it doesn't seem like he'll be travelling... It would've been the first new year in ten+ years apart since we met, so I am not complaining (gooskeyga in loojeedaa umaleeyaa saan u smile gareynooyo )...And since he has been on the phone with Air Canada for almost an hour trying to reschedule, it isn't looking good... Ilaahoow nadhaafsii waxaan nagusoo food hayo... Air Canada has announced that passengers can rebook their flights to, from or through Toronto on Thursday or Friday without a fee because harsh winter storms are expected to cause major delays in air travel through the area. Canada’s largest air carrier said passengers who wish to make alternative travel arrangements can do so without penalty as long as there is space on other flights. Air Canada recommends that passengers be patient because it expects that the high demand to change flights will create long phone waits. On Thursday, Environment Canada issued extreme weather warnings for most of Ontario, with snow squalls and high winds expected to hit the province on Friday. On Wednesday, the federal weather centre issued heavy snowfall warnings for Vancouver, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador. Source

  16. A Brazilian woman has died after being struck by her husband's coffin when the hearse they were travelling in was involved in a car crash. The 67-year-old woman was on the way to the cemetery to bury her husband, who had died the day before. The hearse was struck from behind by an Alfa Romeo car, police said. The coffin slammed into the head of the woman, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the hearse, killing her instantly, according to officers. Marciana Silva Barcelos and her family were on the way to a cemetery in the town of Alvorada in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, for the funeral of her partner, Josi Silveira Coimbra. The 76-year-old man had died of a heart attack on Sunday after attending a dance. Following the accident, the driver of the Alfa Romeo was trapped for around 50 minutes in the wreckage and was taken to hospital where he was put under observation. The driver of the hearse and a son of the dead man, who was also travelling in the hearse, were treated for minor injuries. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the accident. Link I came across this article a few weeks back, then saw it again today...So methough I share wiv you... What a way to go eh?

  21. Originally posted by RedSea: Assalamu Calaykum, Kool Kat, Abaayo: is a word and it's used by somalis starting from Hiiraan and down south. The term walaal has no distinctions in its reference to male and female when it's used as 'walaal', then it's for both genders. It, however, changes according to the situation. For instance, you say "walaalow, magacaa" to a male and "walaaley, magacaa" for a female. Get it? I normally use walaal, and would recommend its use. Because the term 'abaayo or abowe' carries hidden messege. Normally a person said to that, is most likely inclined to think that he/she is being interested in. It is not good to say that to people who have sick heart. They'll translate it differently then you meant. Your significant other is hereby an exception though. 24. If one is diabetic eye check-ups are still free of charge...There is still some consideration there... I don't mind paying for eye check-up or dental, as long as I get basic health coverage - which OHIP covers a lot more than basic...Besides it is not like one needs go to the optometrist/dentist often...AND if you have extended coverage through your employer/spouse/parent/school (I think schools still offer this), 80% of dental charges are covered on most plans...So it isn't really that bad... But like Pucca said, this doesn't mean we can't wish for more...
  25. ^What is strange to me is when people use 'walaal' for both male and female! Male - Female Aboowe - Abaayo Ariboowe - Aribaaye Walaaloow - Walaaleey Walaal - Walaal?
