  4. The Somali family is under a great threat, and this is so because sperm donor fathers have disappeared without a trace – thank god we have loving mothers – the men even failed to bring home the bread, in Somali many of the business people, even abroad are women, they are often the hustlers in the household. Thou the new generation, we dare not to follow the paths of our fathers – we choose to participate in this thing we family.
  5. I think democratic societies have advanced against their own interests. I doubt a lot of people would support the abuse of children, there are only a few people who are advocating such perverted policies. The born again Christian fundamentalists have advocated against many issues that are morally aligned with faith based individuals including Muslims when it comes to the question of homosexuality, abortion and secularism. Even so, these groups hate each other even thou their interests and basic understanding of issues are similar. Democracy is good when it is kept in check, I think these people are driving this policy to serve their own interests – this is pushing the envelope. However, it shouldn’t deter or rather discourage many people against democracy – otherwise, the substituting system will be more difficult to function in – unless it is an Islamic one – even so, do we have a fully Islamic nation in the world today? Often many of my colleagues often argue that Saudi Arabia is the best country to be living in if you’re Muslim --- of course with closer examination we clearly see it is not the best Islamic state --- they give millions to western universities that train the next leaders of the free world, who get the ‘best’ education with a grain of Orientalism as Edward Said described, a double blind investment. Don’t just b!tch about the political system you live in, participate in it, join interest groups, many of these groups as sick as their ideologies might be – they have made a point in using procedural methods to infiltrate the system to advance their twisted ideals. We should be able to do the same movement to counterbalance those ideals. Our function within the system is one that is reactionary at the moment – write to your local rep, create groups that will advance the collective interests of Somalis – be it unbiased policies or bettering our public image. Don’t knock democracy, participate in it and shape it to your liking, or sick minded people will keep doing what they do best, that is daring to advance the most immoral actions that even a pro-humanist advocate would object to.
  6. there are Christian Somalis, I met two of them, one from the Maryano Family and another from Djbouti - they are somalis with the same cultural attributes, but different beliefs. i wanted to do a story on that subject long ago, but i figure Somalis would get angry about the fact.
  7. They're pushing the envelope, this is an extreme suggestion, otherwise, democracy is the best form of government we have seen to date - a lie?
  8. I've always wondered how Somali families in the UK survive, it is so expensive and everything is paid weekly --- $600 barely covers run, so how do they pay for everything else --- most of them live in government housing i assume.
  9. Blue Seemslike you'll be a free agent, as to my where abouts, I was in t.dot for a month or so, and now visiting ottawa for the week.
  10. I think Amin Amir was trying to do a cartoon show for children, or was it a childrens book --- children's media is a huge industry especially when its educational.
  11. ^^^ you can also get some pointers from the experts if you download podcasts, look for them in the business section on itunes.
  12. So no to American TV for all it raises are stubidh and fat children. TV is not the bad guy – the US educational system is to blame. I hear they don’t use red ink to mark test anymore or x’s for that matter. There are more private schools than there are public ones – and majority of students, the economically advantaged ones attend private school. In his fourth book, Everything Bad Is Good for You, iconoclastic science writer Steven Johnson (who used himself as a test subject for the latest neurological technology in his last book, Mind Wide Open) takes on one of the most widely held preconceptions of the postmodern world--the belief that video games, television shows, and other forms of popular entertainment are detrimental to Americans' cognitive and moral development. Everything Good builds a case to the contrary that is engaging, thorough, and ultimately convincing. The heart of Johnson's argument is something called the Sleeper Curve--a universe of popular entertainment that trends, intellectually speaking, ever upward, so that today's pop-culture consumer has to do more "cognitive work"--making snap decisions and coming up with long-term strategies in role-playing video games, for example, or mastering new virtual environments on the Internet-- than ever before. Johnson makes a compelling case that even today's least nutritional TV junk food–the Joe Millionaires and Survivors so commonly derided as evidence of America's cultural decline--is more complex and stimulating, in terms of plot complexity and the amount of external information viewers need to understand them, than the Love Boats and I Love Lucys that preceded it. When it comes to television, even (perhaps especially) crappy television, Johnson argues, "the content is less interesting than the cognitive work the show elicits from your mind."
Johnson's work has been controversial, as befits a writer willing to challenge wisdom so conventional it has ossified into accepted truth. But even the most skeptical readers should be captivated by the intriguing questions Johnson raises, whether or not they choose to accept his answers. --Erica C. Barnett
  13. I guess they’re all dying to live, taking great risk to escape Somalia. Once they get to wherever they might be headed, their life is more difficult compared to what they had escaped. I remember a story in the new york times couple of years ago about Somalis in Italy, some of them didn’t even have homes, they slept in empty buildings, and they had nothing to eat and the system wouldn’t help them. The reporter one of the guys, why did he leave his family back in Xamar and whether life is better now, and he replied, I don’t have to worry about a stray bullet killing me. Its not only Somalis that are trying to leave their land, many Africans are doing the same thing. Lets pray that more people will survive their journey into the unknown.
  14. Blue as always good work, thanks for the defence against the angry bloggers Where will you be shooting this summer?
  15. You worked at a slaughter house, neat -was it a halaal spot, if so, was the killing done by hand or by machine?
  16. I think Allah orchestrates all things in this universe, everyone’s life is accounted for, and no one is left untested and not be judged. Clearly the signs have been seen, and many of them have been noted as many have mentioned. Will the world end because of human actions that are independent from a higher power, I doubt that. However, human action might lead to the worsening of our condition, such as wars, environmental abuse, and that might be a SIGN in itself. The world can end instantly, so can life, if we accept that, we should be good.
  17. ^^^ i'm sure it paid well --- and that was an important job, i mean you was benefiting those kids, they'll thank you in the future.
  18. T what's hardcore --- are you hardcore? Really? Bro, reading and writing don't make nobody soft, means your focused. No disrespect, but we don’t know each other like that, and certainly you don’t know me homie, nor my history - so don’t watch me son watch tv.

Agriculture is a huge business, when we combine technology, do we mean genetically modified outputs. Also, we are losing our trees at a rapid rate, they are being burnt for the purpose of charcoal and shipped off to the middle east.
  20. C i've given up already, perhaps i should have not admitted defeat so early in the game -- your current entry might get you in trouble, careful adheer.
  21. T & C that entry was about lost ideals, even T mentioned something similar to that – nonetheless, seems like I’m cornered, so waa isdeebay.

  23. The ideological appeal of Somalia's Islamists now appears stronger than the clan loyalties that have sustained the murderous squabbling of the warlords for the past decade. I doubt that's the case, clan politics is still relevant in the Islamists uprising.
