I think the title says it all. Completely off her rocker.

The difference in headlines is telling though

Someone once said that the reason why we don't have more female politicians is because it takes too long to put makeup on two faces.

I don't know which is worse: 1. The act itself 2. Those who shrug it off or promise more of the same 3. Or those who smugly bounce on it as typical of Mogadishu "savages"

They're just getting back to where they once belonged. The obsession with keeping women at home is a very recent development in wealthy societies. The great majority of the world's women have always worked outside the home, generally out of necessity. What we need is political clout to go with that inescapable fact.

Roobleh, The study you read sounds like it involved younger women, who are indeed less likely to have breast cancer if they were overweight as children and teens. But becoming overweight as adults (especially after menopause) seems to correlate with a higher risk. Is that complicated or what?

The gov't is telling career women to please please go have babies, and promising to hold the fort for them while they are away. Of course, the target is a small fraction of women, not the millions in low-paying jobs with no future prospects.

Seems like you're a natural at this. Question of the day: Is there some strange impulse that drives people in Africa to call the States at 3 AM?

I don't know about the chemical imbalance, but surely such a huge life change would bring some anxieties and sadness in any case. You've gone through a physically grueling process, you're tired, you are responsible for a helpless infant who depends on you for life itself, you can't get enough sleep, you may be in physical pain or discomfort, your body has changed alarmingly (remember how freaky puberty was?), and people expect you to be happy all the time. If that's not cause for occasionally feeling blue I don't know what is. The real concern is someone who's overwhelmed to the point of harming themselves or their child. There should be a nonjudgemental, compassionate way to identify and reach out to those people.

We can only obtain peace by means of violence How? In what arena? Who will dole out this violence and who will direct it? Does anyone have actual workable suggestions on how violent opposition to the and Ethiopians will succeed where the UIC failed? I'm all for "kick the invaders out", but how do we do that exactly? Cambarro asked for solutions, and what we're getting so far is rousing speeches with no real substance.

Dave, I'm totally convinced now. I'm going to practise my wiki skills and I'll help out in at least changing the page back if vandals mess it up.

Xiin, I may take you up on that Serenity, if you promise to keep quiet and not get crumbs everywhere you can join us. Alle-Ubaahne, forget it. I was under the impression that he had a harqad full of cash hidden somewhere too

Serenity, adigu ma iyagoo wili wadnuhu daakamayo ayaad cuntaa?

Khalaf, no vulgarity, I didn't mean it that way. I think I'm going to leave it well alone now. Alle-Ubaahne, well you can say goodbye to any chance of your elderly bachelor uncle finally getting a wife!

Serenity, I said perfectly preserved. How's roast duck sound?
-
Please. We're still knee-deep in snow out here. Today I found a dead duck in the backyard. I think it died sometime in November (when they fly through here on their way south) and has been perfectly preserved in the sub-zero temperatures of the last few months. Summer summer summer.

The service to country idea is not so far-fetched, Che. Do you know what the British Empire used to tell reluctant wives? "Just lie back and think of England."
-
You guys want to know my reasons? Either wait for the book like I said, OR navigate to the first page of this thread and read the list of reasons Khalaf gave. No heart-rending story forthcoming. No personal vendetta against Islam. I'm sorry to burst your bubble Khalaf, but to me Islam is just a faith like all the other faiths. The onus is on you to explain why it's so special. If you want to show why atheism is false, go ahead. You specifically opened this thread with a list of reasons for atheism, a list which you said was laughable. Yet you have as yet to explain why the list strikes you as so ridiculous. Anytime someone tries to pin you down you run and hide under Nur's macawis and claim ignorance. Grow up.
-
I agree. Any time off work is time off work. Do these rules apply to someone who joins the army? Maybe they're thinking of child bearing as service to country, Che. And the country is making the employer shoulder some of the burden.
-
Faaraxov, don't mistake a disinclination to claiming I have complete knowledge on anything for ignorance. It's merely academic modesty Khalaf, you sure have a chip on your shoulder. You want people to attack your faith so you can go forth on cyber-jihad and defend it. For all the talk of our arrogance, it's you who created this thread, refused to accept my refusal to participate on a personal level, and generally are making a nuisance of yourself. I'm not interested in attacking your views, that's just bad manners. I may occasionally defend mine, as the mood strikes me. Unlike a whole lot of people here, I'm not too interested in elevating myself by putting others down. Ayan Hirsi doesn't speak for me, and attacking me by proxy is not going to make her go away. Just let it go, man.

So mesmerizing...
