I'm so glad allergies--like all other modern evils--can be laid squarely at the feet of the West. An over-the-counter antihistamine like loratadine is pretty effective. You won't feel drowsy, unlike earlier OTC and prescription drugs. You will have to take it daily, and it only relief the symptoms; there's no cure for allergies aside from possibly ingesting intestinal worms (really). Currently, loratadine is marketed under the brand name Claritin, but the generic drug is much cheaper and just as effective. It works pretty well for me, with minimal side-effects.

Also, just telling yourself you have insomnia will make it more difficult to fall sleep. Your body will find a way to get some rest when it needs to. The last time I had a bubble bath I made the water too hot, but I was determined and jumped in, only to step out after 10 minutes feeling light-headed. Waxaan cuskaday the shower curtain and the curtain rod fell down and hit me on the head. It sounds comical but it's really quite painful and a little embarrassing.
