  1. I know a lot more Arabic than I realized!

It's really interesting, how emotional some people get. As far as numbers go, 95% of people die because of diseases or accident or old age. Less than 5% die due to direct violence, whether this is war or murder. The majority of people that do get killed by other human beings are killed by their own people (if it's murder it's more likely to be a family member than not, if it's war it's more likely to be compatriots or those nominally on "your side" than the actual enemy). Yet to hear some Americans talk, they are more likely to die in a terrorist attack than from car accidents, and when Muslims are cursing "their enemies" I wonder if they are picturing their statistical enemies (a bacterium or virus or atherosclerotic plague), their likeliest murderers (a neighbor or relative who is likely also a Muslim) or the most unlikely scenario (they are a Palestinian child who was just shot point blank by an IDF soldier).

  2. Howdy trollers! I could've sworn I checked in earlier today, maybe I was just dreaming...

LOL@ Juxa, cadeys tea will never be the same to me redface.gif

LOL@ the troll corner getting a lecture on tribalism. You're all racists! :D

  3. Can't you grab some new baaldi from the dollar store and leave poor Sayid alone? Maybe he got emotionally attached to them, ever since he found out if he sings into one his voice echoes back sounding like Andrea Bocelli :D

  4. The trend has also caused tensions in family life. One man went to a rabbinical court in an attempt to get a ruling to force his wife to stop wearing the burka.

The plan backfired, however. The court ruled that that woman's behaviour was so "extreme" that it ordered the couple to undergo an immediate religious divorce.

Ha! I love the internal logic of religious laws.

  5. What you get for setting your wake-up alarm to the radio: finding out about the plane crash near Islamabad while half-sleep. I nearly burst into tears I was so shocked and disoriented...

    Morning trollers :(

  6. Talking about talking at work, is it tiresome?

Look people, we get it. You all have nice cushy office jobs were the biggest work hazard is dying of boredom listening to Betty describe her poodle's hemorrhoid issues while filing TPS reports. It's not like you offer anything profound when your time comes up to chip in your two cents anyway. All you do is describe how your genius son is also a prodigy at soccer and gosh it's a miracle he's even alive considering he had a terrible ear infection just a month ago! Wanna see a picture? Or 20?

Ahem, sorry, had to get that out of the way. How is everyone doing on this fine Monday afternoon/evening?

  7. I think the fear is the law becomes living document which needs to be reinterpreted and changed.

Honest question, isn't this always the case? Take the law against women driving cars. Obviously this law didn't exist in 1 AH, or 930 AH, or 1200 AH. It couldn't have, since there were no cars. It seems pretty arbitrary to fear interpretation of the law in some instances (usually ones that give women rights) but ignore other instances.

If jet packs become mainstream, isn't it likely a new law will need to be created banning women from flying around?

  8. Let me know if it's ultra scary Mr DashDash. I wanna see a loud blockbuster, getting tired of artsy movies.

Che, everyone should be allowed One Clean Start once in their life. Either career or family, you get to choose...

LOL@Seeker, that's the idea, maybe the dreaded Carpet-Cleaning-Burglar will break into your home.

Juxa and Rhazes, both of those require much thinking and decision-making. I'm just going to spray some Febreze and hope that freshens things up. Can't handle a full spring-cleaning at the moment.

Funny thing, last weekend I bought a xaaqin only to find out I had another one collecting dust in a corner somewhere (this is all literal not figurative you Freudians).

  9. ^Let's face it, because we do. Every time I want to complain about hayfever or insects or the humidity I remember the alternative is the freezing cold wet nightmare that's winter.Ugh.

Stoic, how do you resist the urge to play along?

Hello weekend trollers. Last night I was dreaming that I was doing chores, like cleaning the kitchen and vacuuming and dusting. So saaka markaan soo kacay to see the state of my hovel ciil baa i qabtay.

  10. Hello trollers one and all!

Dreading a stup!d work party today. I hate being social during work hours. It's so confusing. I'm compelled to be at work, yet not accomplishing anything

  11. Based on the number of bolded words in Oodweyne's text, divided by the number of words in quotation marks raised to the power of the number of "Dear lads", I gather there has been a peaceful transition of power. Congratulations again!

Ibti, I was being serious! It's standard operating procedure for even pro-Somaliland southerners to take a playful swing at our neighboring "nation" icon_razz.gif

So I'll hold you to your promise to jajabis all this for me since the results are officially in.

  12. ^Can we get some sensible (ie female) perspective on this Ibti? I gather there are two parties headed by a Riyaale (the incumbent?) and a Silaanyo. Who won? What does it mean for the average Xaliimo in Burco? What does each side campaign on?

I don't even know the basics redface.gif How long is each presidential term? How much political power does the office have anyway, how many houses of parliament, is there a prime minister? Why do I get the sense just having a peaceful election is the point and no one really cares about the actual outcome?

Actually, I demand you start a new thread entitled "Somaliland 2010 Elections for Dummies" to give us the lowdown on this thrilling event.

And congratulations to our northerly neighbor/wayward state :D
