  1. I wasn't born in Xamar, but can't imagine calling any other place home. Waan ku caqliyeystay, as the family used to say.
  2. I tried looking for you Ibti, but a certain someone has too many friends, I gave up around the 6th page. Really Sheh? Most of my long-lost relatives are still in the baadiye, the Facebook equivalent is meeting up at the village well to water the camels.
  3. Well done everyone. Ibti dear you outdid yourself by the sounds of things. Have you decided which charity to donate to?
  4. We're hoping it's Somaliland that will be crooning that in a few years.
  5. ^Confident or hopeful Che?
  6. ^Stop ordering me around! I'm the Decider!
  7. LOL @ Che. You mean something la cuskado while taking the orthopedic socks off? How considerate Precisely Malika. For every arrangement, there's someone who would be just right for it.
  8. Cara.

    Is this love?

^Nice. Nuune, your sheekoyin always sound suspicious. Like the yaxaas story, yaa ka warqabay waxay labadu ku go'aan gaareen? Who was witness to how they got decided to ford the river? True love is more real than some things but not as real as other things.
  9. Look at Somalia, Che. Anti-choice, pro-guns, anti-spending, small govt, no proper curriculum in schools. Is that what we want SOL to look like? I disavow any breaking of hearts, I am too serious and well-mannered for that kind of nonsense. Maybe your boy had a bad case of indigestion?
  10. LOL. Ms DD, what have you gotten yourself into? There are indeed certain advantages to being wife #2, otherwise no woman would do it (knowingly anyway). Divorcees and widows, especially if they have children, might appreciate having a husband, but feel they couldn't compete in the open market of singles Also, a lot of women would put up with anything if the guy is rich enough. And then there are women who are getting on in years and start to feel panicky at being unmarried, for them settling for a married guy is preferable to be a "spinster". Of course, as a 42 year old third-time divorce who likes money, I welcome any wealthy man looking to diversify his marriage. I promise to see you off with a big smile, to never demand more time as long as you keep the bank account well-stocked, and to always be cordial, and even down-right friendly when you surprise me with a expensive car or holiday. What more could a guy ask for?
  11. Sayid, I don't feel I can set a mandate with only a third of the votes. Maybe a run-off election would be best. I know a lot has been placed on your able shoulders this election, but you will be duly rewarded by the new administration for all your hard work. Sorry Rudy, the only driving you would be qualified for is of the presidential limo. Nuune, the First Man would be in the Oval Office only if it needed dusting or vacuuming I bet Xiin is going to start screaming "I told you this would happen!"
  12. ^The old conservative fuddy-duddies like Xiin had their run. The people are calling for change! Xiinow, ileen nimanku waxay ugu diidaan in dumarku ka qaybgalaan tartanka hadaan fahmey! It stems from an instinctive understanding that women will excel at command. But don't worry, you don't have to live under any woman's reign
  13. Iska waran KK, we've missed your xiqxiqs 'round here. Pucca, nobody elects a queen Protocol, funny but it's always the ones with the severe case of cuqdadxumo who say that... Ibtisam, baliis aniga ha i masabidan. I said nothing of the sort! And if you try to quote me I'll just say it's out-of-context Man, this politics thing is easy.
  14. ^LOOL. So did this woman.
  15. Nuune, at least he WAS nominated LOL @ A&T, naga daa dee. Goormaan ku salaamin? This is a last-minute smear campaign, you're suffering from voter's remorse  Ibti, what, you mean Val and Rudy are
  16. LOOOL @ Ibti. It's like a Hindi movie huh? Full of mistaken identity and mutual misunderstandings. You guys will like one another, start flirting and be almost about to make it official. BUT, turns out you were betrothed to someone when you were a mere child, and that someone has just arrived in town and wants to meet you! Oh you will rant and rave and storm out of rooms, until it turns out the fiance is the same ethnically ambiguous guy!! Then everyone will break out into song and be transported to the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, Kashmir, and the Great Wall of China over a 10 minute period....
  17. Happy birthday SS. Just in time to vote tomorrow eh?
  18. Hello women. I thought it's your ears that itch when someone is talking about you, Ms DD. Maybe you bit your lip because someone is thinking about your lips Ibti, how would you like it if someone mistook you for a Pakistani? Wiilka maskiinka ah si toos ah u salaam, and make amends for not recognizing his Somalinimo!
  19. I appreciate all your votes people. They won't be wasted. My (er, our) first act in office will be to clean up the Politics section. No more name-calling, silly arguments, fruitless repetition of tired nonsense... What, what do you mean I can't do that because I'm not a moderator? Oh well, it's just a campaign promise, don't actually have to deliver... My next promise: all the people who feel marginalized in this election will have representation in my (umm, our) inner cabinet. Except for Adam-Zayla's post, all other positions will be filled by Northerners or women. Ibti will have TWO cabinet posts obviously, we have to keep that girl busy before she stages a coup. Let her try running Foreign Affairs and the Department of Labor simultaneously! P.S. I voted for A&T and Xiin for the same reason people voted for Val and Rudy the last election
  20. Yeah? Well, you're wrong and I'm right. How's that for a dichotomy? Seriously though, you make a good point and I would agree with you. But to play devil's advocate: It's one thing to look at rock formations and figure out that a glacier retreated sometime between 15000 BC and 12000 BC, the evidence is rock-solid (pardon me). It's another thing entirely to be sure that we know all the facts about the causes of global warming IN REAL TIME. A few years down the line the trends might all reverse themselves because it turns out sunspots were responsible, or maybe an underwater volcano, or Australia drifting too near New Zealand. There are counter-theories, even though clearly I'm not familiar with them! Keep in mind also that the time scales involved here are tiny by geological standards. It's usually not possible to pinpoint any definitive changes in the composition of the atmosphere to within a thousand years or so. 250,000 years ago is not distinguishable from 251,000 years ago, even though we're talking a huge span by the standards of human lifespans. But maybe there were temperature fluctuations that simply didn't get recorded because they happened too quickly. Bottom line: scientists make mistakes, they've even agreed on stuff and turned out to be wildly wrong. Or they could change their minds just like they suddenly decided Pluto wasn't good enough to be a planet. Messed up the whole mnemonic for remembering the order of planets
  21. There was a case recently of a man who kidnapped, raped and then murdered an 8 year-old girl. He confessed to it, and led authorities to her unmarked grave. He wasn't married, so he wouldn't have been stoned to death if current Shariah laws were to be applied. If there is a system of justice in which a poor divorced woman gets stoned to death for turning up pregnant, but a child rapist and murderer can pay a fine and get 80 lashes, then that system is broken.
  22. ThePoint, Climate change is undisputed, what's arguable is how much human actions affect the climate. There are natural cycles of warming and cooling of the planet. Once the Sahara was a lush jungle, and glaciers once covered Ohio. Since this was well before the combustion engine, it's not unreasonable to wonder if the current trends are natural rather than manmade.
  23. ^Ugh. This is why I think every woman should be fitted with a hollow tooth filled with cyanide (dentists will make a killing!). Any time she finds herself acting like a needy birdbrain, just do the face-saving thing and bite down, HARD.
