  1. Why Ngonge, hasn't the teacher responded to your request for suggestions? icon_razz.gif

Xaaji, will do thanks! But any ideas for more colorful phrases? Something involving anatomical impossibilities and unorthodox unions?

  2. Morning trollers!

LOOOL@ Ngonge. Come on fess up, was that all you, or did the missus help a bit? Impressive either way. I'm gonna try swearing in Somali when I'm angry too, although I don't actually know any good swear words

  3. Weird day when I agree more with General Duke than I do with Sheh and Juxa

She's a hero to me, if we define a hero as someone who would rather report on a warzone as opposed to giving a detailed expose' on Britney Spears drug abuse, or the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new branch of the city library system.

And what's the big deal about the necklace? We give dahab to women to celebrate their joys and milestones, like weddings and children and whatnot. It's a quintessentially Somali women gift! They should have given her a dirac and garbasaar set too, instead of that cringe-inducing "portrait" icon_razz.gif

  4. According to article 40 of Egypt's constitution: "All citizens are equal before the law. They have equal public rights and duties without discrimination between them due to
race, ethnic origin, language, religion or creed
    ."

But it doesn't actually include gender ;)

  5. So strange. 11 people sent to suffocate 1 man with a pillowcase? Seems more likely that there were only 2 or 3 sent, and the rest were at the hotel for some other clandestine reason. I'm pretty confident about this, I've watched all seasons of Alias and not once did the spy chick need more than 1 other person to help out :D

I bet any random tourist hotel in the world will have several people there with fake IDs. Spies, arms, dealers, politicians meeting their very special constituents...

  6. Adam, obviously you don't know Ibti as much as you would like to think (was it love at first cyber-sight?). She's going to lecture you on the diamond industry and how De Beers et al. exacerbate conflicts by funding armed violent reactionaries and totalitarian regimes. BLOOOOD DIAMONDS!

Juxa knows this, ask her why she's sabotaging your suit.

Serenity, damn right you should apologize

  7. My disdain of Ethiopians is the only prejudice I have allowed myself and you guys have ruined it

Now who am I supposed to blame all my misfortunes on? "Bloody Tibetans!" just doesn't have the same ring

A&T, I quite like the song, and in fact the whole site is delightful. It's an acceptable valentine's day gift :D

  8. ^We can only think in superlatives.

Barre was the best leader we could ever have.

    No he was evil incarnate.

The depredations of his regime don't necessarily need to be covered up when the past is always a golden age.

I do remember my older siblings had to participate in a literacy program to graduate high school (they spent a couple of months teaching reer baadiye). But how does that stack up against tyrannical rule?

  9. CL, sorry dear. I have deadlines to meet and people to beat, I can't risk feeling sympathy for you or I might catch the bug too.

Hello Juxa. It's easy for Val to say that, guys are always giving her boxes of chocolates and a dozen roses, and singing outside her window.

  10. The other day an Ethiopian friend said "Somali Ethiopian girls are so tall and pretty." The what's wrong with you was implied of course :D But I thought it was odd, to her Somalis in Ethiopian are just another tribe, though with some legitimate grievances and malcontents.

Anigana halkaan I was thinking it's big of me to befriend the enemy :D
