^ True, Cuban, but you're an enlightened, educated fella. Compare that to the undereducated, fully-armed Somalis back home who are susceptible to radio news and others' views. See anything differently?

^ Bingo! Originally posted by Jaylaani: I think there is different set of rules applied when it comes to warlords. How so? Originally posted by Blessed: What is wrong if 'certain groups' pick out an individual who has committed crimes against them? I'm afraid you answered your own question: Originally posted by Blessed: Samatar had people defending him solely because of tribal affiliation and so did Qeybdiid and Barre and every other warlord. Meaning, if Cali Samatar is singled-out by members of "Clan X", then "Clan Z" will see it as a witch-hunt. Look at Qeybdiid's case: "Clan A" members accuse him, and in response, "Clan B" members stage a rally in Xamar in the thousands. They think, and rightfully so, how does Qeybdiid eat the dust when we have Gen Morgan sitting amongst us? If you were wronged by an individual would you wait on other Somalis or go about it your own way? This goes beyond individuals and we both know it. This issue has reprecussions that go beyond the individual or certain group targetting a war criminal. For example, war criminals can be found in almost all the major Somali clans. How come every time a war criminal case takes centerstage, its members of a select clan (i.e. plaintiffs) v. the war criminal (who belongs to a wholly different clan)? Is the war criminal's clan wrong for seeing it as a witch-hunt? I think not. I think that we go after all the war criminals (which is impossible, as you said) or find another venue that can be agreed upon. Because, at the end of the day, selective justice will fail - just as it did with the Samatar and Qeybdiid cases.
-
^ Just gave you examples of selective justice, but I didn't say you mentioned anyone in particular, sxb. I know who Cali Samatar is. Col. Cabdi Qeybdiid is the guy who was detained by Swedish police temporarily for "war crimes" in Somalia in 2005 - he was a USC rebel commander.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (The McGill Report) - When the hubbub settles, as it eventually will so that the group can take stock of the newcomer, pull out a small notebook and tell the group you want to know the meaning of a new Somali phrase you have learned. Jot down these words on the paper: "fadhi ku dirir." Nonchalantly throw the piece of paper to the middle of the table. Now, sit back and enjoy the gale of laughter that ensues. In particular, note how all the men at the table (Somali women avoid this Starbucks) look at each other self-consciously as they finish laughing and whisper to each other in Somali. Read on...

^ You think? Originally posted by Jaylaani: What do you guys think about the SOMALI war criminals? They should all be hanged! Mind you, the operative word here is "all." What I particularly dislike is stunts like the Cali Samatar case and Cabdi Qeybdiid's arrest in Sweden. This is selective justice carried out by "certain" groups (not a pan-Somali movement). If we go after Somali war criminals, there must be an agreement to go after all of them - those war criminals from the military dictatorship to the war criminals in the post-91 era. Selective justice leads to those who rush to point out that Somalia's war criminals aren't limited only to Cali Samatar and Cabdi Qeybdiid.

Thanks to KASHANRE and MMA for correcting these dudes. They're simply avoiding the facts posted on this thread, but its Cadde Muuse who admitted his crimes and is willing to pay for them (that's what matters, after all). Fact remains: "If" the boys who were murdered by Cadde's security guards were "criminals", as some here on SOL would have us believe, then why is the Puntland leader paying the families of the supposed "criminals"? Why have Reer Nugaal - from Dangorayo to Godobjiraan, Eyl to Garoowe - united on this issue and rightfully sought compensation for the loss of their boys? What I find strange is the response from DUKE. For a man who continously posts news items daily, he didn't think to post this very important news item from Garowe. Isn't that strange? I mean, he was QUICK to post the firefight in Garowe but he doesn't post the MORE MEANINGFUL peaceful resolution to that same firefight. Do you guys see this or is just me? Worse, he didn't even respond to this very important development, but comes out with something I personally least expected from him (joining the others about these recurring accusations!). Moreover, he didn't congratulate Reer Nugaal and the PL leadership for seeking a peaceful resolution to what could've been a potentially devastating result from that illegal incident carried out by the gung ho security forces. I personally think that the peaceful solution to the triple murders on 2/27/06 committed by the security forces is a milestone - it could even serve as an example to fellow Somalis, by showing them that the traditional means of conflict resolution could still be applied today, instead of going for the destructive eye-for-an-eye campaign. Anyway, some folks' true faces have been amplified on this thread.

Sacrificing for your family’s well being - The male perspective.

My apologies to brother Nur for jumping the gun. Abdulnoor, mahadsanid for the correction. After I actually read the entire piece, I'm of a different opinion. -

So, you are interested in taking on another Xalimo? If this is the first sentence and eNur wrote it, why would I read the whole essay? At the end of the day, it always boils down to the pro-polygamy argument. Originally posted by Castro: Sticking with my minwayn (and my children) is of much greater value than finding a hot and young new minyar. Well said, Cuban. In the battle between quality and quantity, I'd rather stick with quality to the end. -
Better to fight and die than compromise with America
codetalker replied to Castro's topic in Politics
Good read! What's there to "compromise"? The Americans want a regime change - how is the Iranian leadership supposed to "compromise" on their status as leaders? If Tehran continues to call on Washington's bluffs, it might achieve the martyrdom the Iranians are so fond of. Have you seen the new PINR report on U.S.-China relations? A similar deepening of relations can be seen in the case of Sino-Iranian relations. While China abstained in the vote to refer Iran's nuclear ambitions to the United Nations Security Council at the meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.) in January 2006, it still maintains strong relations with Iran. When the Iran issue will be discussed at the U.N. Security Council, China could employ a similar tactic to what it employed over the issue of Sudan, which is also a significant oil supplier to China; in 2004, the U.N. Security Council was forced to water down a resolution condemning atrocities in the Darfur region to avoid a Chinese veto. - Power and Interest News Report (PINR) ^ This is another reason economic sanctions on Iran might not even be passed in the UN Security Council. -
Hey, great points ladies but the score remains the same: Men 100 Women 50 (final score)

I had to bring this spectacular quote back: Originally posted by somalipride: Can I ask you something, why hasnt' there been riots, protest in Garowe? I mean people were killed, isn't the somali way an eye for an eye, atleast that's what I saw when I was there. Why is there no talk about avenging those deaths? I'll tell you why, the people are proud of what Pres Cade did , the people were fed up with Faroole and the fact they didn't come to his defense is proof. Is Cadde "proud" of what he did? Also, are you sure no one came to Faroole's defense? Read below and let me know. 1-In sadexdii nin ee lagu diley weerarkii ay gaysteen ciidanka Madaxtooyada PL laga bixiyo mag dharaareed. 2- In ninkiiba laga bixiyo 200 oo Halaad. 3- In Magtaa lagu baxsho sadex barri gudahood 4- In Wiilkii dhaawacmey lagu soo daaweeyo isbataal dibada ah wixii uu la yimaadana dib looga wada xaajoodo. - Radio Garowe And... Sida uu Puntlandpost.com u sheegay Xaaji Cabdi-shuluco oo Shirguddoon uu ah Odayaal-beeleed Issimada Nugaal u xilsaareen Xalinta arintaani , dood dheer oo ay la yeesheen Madaxwaynaha Puntland kadib , waxaa xalay la Go’aamiyay in dawlada lagu Xukumo 3-da Nin ee dhintay in ay ka bixiso 600 oo Halaad oo u dhiganta 9, 000,000,000 , iyo in Ninka dhaawaca lagu soo daaweeyo dalka dibadiisa , isla markaasna la simo dhiigiisa oo la bixiyo , waxaana Lacgta magta ah lagu bixinayaa 3 maalmood gudahood , taa soo ku aadan khamiista fooda inaku soo haysa. Let's remember that, for each man that was murdered by Cadde's personal security guards, the mag to be paid was doubled. People are so "fed up" with Faroole, huh.

Bosnians are NOT my sisters and brothers neither are they yours. This is the ideological difference between yourself and those who argue with you. I believe that all Muslims (Bosnians included) are my brothers and sisters. And Milosovic, for what he did to thousands of human beings, deserves to be ridiculed and condemned. p.s. North said: i dont think SB knows the guy or what he and his army did between 1992 and 1995. Even if he does, he will make an issue of it as its his thing to be 'controversial' . Bingo! Maybe he thinks it makes him look cool, no?

A different approach - the US's mission in East Africa
codetalker replied to N.O.R.F's topic in Politics
Pentagon propaganda at its best! I wonder how much Defense Dept. PR money the CS Monitor got to publish this "touching" story. I also wonder, if this is what's being reported, how much of the entire story is not making it to the printing press? Time has passed by but the West has yet to change its tactics. When they first came to Africa, they came with Bibles to "civilize" the savages. Now, they're winning the "hearts and minds" by building schools and clinics. Just their predecessors who had the Bible in one hand and a gun in the other, these NATO military forces are no different. -
There is no doubt the Somali army militarily defeated their Ethiopian counterpart. However, even though the Somalis won the military battle, they lost the more important diplomatic one (the Soviets' switch to Addis Ababa). It is worthy of mentioning that the '77-'78 war is the main reason the Ethiopian government is always trying hard to make sure a strong, united Somalia never rises again. So, they independently support Mog. warlords, Somaliland, Puntland, etc. - as long as these entities see each other as enemies, Ethiopia will remain in the driver's seat and all these so-called "leaders" will remain nothing but disposible passengers.

Why is Africa poor? Because of ignorance - pure and simple. But "blaming the White man" crap - that's just an excuse. Africa has been robbed of the opportunity to shine by her own sons and daughters. The dictators that behaved as bad, if not worse, than the colonialists were fellow Africans, not White men. Every continent and every race has gone through a time when petty differences decided the future. In many parts of Africa, petty differences are still deciding the future.

^ Cyber threat. Check! Wasn't that the sole reason for the protests and the boycotts? Why fight for it if we are not going to apply it or practice it? Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? Good point, but the example doesn't fit because, in regards to the Danish cartoons, it was a [insert: State-sponsored] deliberate insult against the global Muslim Ummah and our religious ideology. If that's not the case, how come the West focused more on the riots than the actual cause of them? They wanted to prove that the Muslims are a bunch of violent criminals who need to be controlled and dominated, for they pose a threat to the "modern" world. Talking to the average American tells me they've largely succeeded. Sad!

War bal anagaa wax aragnay: How did this crap turn into a 2-page debate? FRIDAY MAO - Marka hore, Awoowe Allaha u naxariisto, Janatul-Firdowsana Allaha ka waraabiyo. Aamin! Secondly, I think we should differentiate between Christians "obsession with Jesus" vis-a-vis the Muslims' "love for Prophet Muhammad (scw)." And if the violent protests didn't happen, how else were we to respond? Boycotts, peaceful protests, etc.? I think the brother al-Haji Malik al-Shabazz (Malcolm X) said it best: "Power never takes a step back - only in the face of more power." If the Muslims didn't step up and show power, then the Christians would think insulting the Prophet (scw) is "OKAY." Next thing you know, every ideology the Muslims believe in will get insulted (which has been happening for years). But by insulting the Prophet (scw), they broke all the rules and needed to be dealt with harshly to show them that this is where the buck ultimately stops.

We Somalis are way too racist to allow foreigners to co-habit our nation with us. Besides, what foreigner wouldn't be terrified of a people who resort to violence at the most trivial of conflicts?
