Che -Guevara;964642 wrote: what history books are reading Naxar? Nothing to do with that subject at the moment, just going of off materials I have come across much earlier but will be happy to look into it when I have time. Xiin, waan ku gartay sxb, there was more of this is how things should be tone rather then this is what i believe in your argument. What am saying however is that there is a convergence between popular sentiment and logical understanding of the personal freedoms and equality that is inshrined in the constitution. Your views, in the sense ofAmerican popular opinion is very outdated, like I said that train has left the building a long time ago. What is being debated now, that the highest court in the land has found unconstitutional is the states unequal treatment of its citizens based on sexual oriention. If your arguemeny is that homosexuality is bad, that had its own place but it's a completely different arguement from the desicion of the Supreme Court today and Doma. Forgive the confusion but am just not sure of the case your making, is it homosexuality or the unconstitutionality of Doma.

I don't know where you people live but there is actually two parts two a marriage. One you go to your musque, church, temple and perform what ever ceremony you like. The other, you go in from of a judge. religious and civil. Marriage started of as a civil act for taxation purposes and the religious aspects were added later.

xiinfaniin;964602 wrote: NN, In my few posts (if you are an intent reader) are profound questions: if we go by mere individual rights or the sentiment of the masses how could we ever exist as a society with bedrock values? If tomorrow one million mothers and sons come out demanding the right to marry how could one object their demands on the basis of individual rights, equality and fairness? Better yet , if these mothers and their sons form a powerful political lobby group and use democratic means to achieve their aspirations , would that make it right? It is one thing to say : hey xiin these are gaaloos, if you don't like what they do , go and live somewhere else. It is another to intellectualize a clear nonsense and argue the abhorrent acts of grown men F*ng each other and want to get a legal certificate for the sodomy. So quoting the GALLUP poll is the stuff a conformist do One you confused me, I thought you were saying that you believed in personal freedom of gays like all other people but that you had issue with the institution marriage blah blah. lol, that would have made more sense, but what read now makes less sense. Gay rights is a train that has left the building a long time ago. am really not seeing the conflict between individual rights and bedrock values, perhaps am not grasping what you mean by bedrock values. as I take it to mean, individual rights ARE the bedrock values of this country, that none sense in the constitution about inalienable rights! as for the masses and their demands, we live in a country, a democracy where the will of those masses is above all, except where it does not conflict with individual rights. So if the majority of the country decides tomorrow they want mothers and sons (completely wrong analogy btw, relation, no relation.) to marry, you dam* straight you will accept it because that is what people in the country live in want. No about what grown adults do in their homes is no ones business but them and their maker. I have no right to invade your privacy Xiin, because I think eating with your hands morally repugnant. Whats more offensive is the idea that you believe you are entitled to impose your ideas of morality and your own values. FYI I stay clear of words gaalo and calling people ajnabi in their own country lol

they have values Xinn. They may have different idea of equality, some would even suggest more logical then yours. Furthermore a clear majority of Americans are in Support: May 20, 2013 In U.S., Record-High Say Gay, Lesbian Relations Morally OK Americans' tolerance of a number of moral issues up since 2001 by Frank Newport and Igor Himelfarb PRINCETON, NJ -- Americans' views toward a number of moral issues have shifted significantly since 2001. Their acceptance of gay and lesbian relations has increased the most, up 19 percentage points in the past 12 years -- to a record high of 59% today. Americans' tolerance toward having a baby outside of marriage is also now much greater, up 15 points since 2001, to the current 60%. Change Over Time in Moral Acceptability of 20 Issues, 2011-2013 Americans have also become significantly more accepting of sex between an unmarried man and woman, divorce, embryonic stem cell research, polygamy, and cloning humans. The only issue that Americans have become significantly less accepting of over the last 12 years is medical testing on animals. These data are from Gallup's annual Values and Beliefs survey, most recently conducted May 2-7. Gallup has asked Americans about their views on many of these issues each May since 2001. Americans' views of the moral acceptability of 10 of the 19 items Gallup asked about have not changed significantly over time, shifting less than five points since they were first measured. A majority of Americans continue to say seven of the 19 items measured are morally wrong -- married men and women having an affair, cloning humans, polygamy, suicide, pornography, sex between teenagers (measured for the first time this year), and cloning animals. Attitudes toward two items -- doctor-assisted suicide and abortion -- are fairly evenly split, with less than half of Americans seeing each as either morally acceptable or morally unacceptable. A majority of Americans see all other items included in the list this year as morally acceptable. Birth control tops the list as the most acceptable, seen as such by 91% of Americans, while having an extramarital affair is the least morally acceptable, at 6%. Next, I'm going to read you a list of issues. Regardless of whether or not you think it should be legal, for each one, please tell me whether you personally believe that in general it is morally acceptable or morally wrong. How about -- [RANDOM ORDER]? May 2013 results One of the interesting features of these trend data is Americans' steady and overwhelming disapprobation of married men and women having an affair, with more than nine in 10 continuing to say this is morally unacceptable, within two points of where it was in 2001. Having an affair thus remains at the bottom of the list of morally acceptable behaviors measured, as it was in 2001. Implications Americans have generally become more tolerant of a series of moral behaviors over the past 10-12 years. This trend is particularly evident in views of gay and lesbian relations and having a baby outside of wedlock. Gay and lesbian relations in particular continue to be at the forefront of the news in the U.S. An increasing number of states have legalized same-sex marriage, and the Supreme Court has several pending decisions on same-sex marriage cases. This resulting increase in awareness of and attention being paid to the gay and lesbian community may be affecting Americans' views. The change in attitudes toward having a baby outside of marriage may be an instance of attitudes following behavior, given recent Census Bureau data showing the increasing prevalence in American society of children born to mothers who are not married. More broadly, Americans continue to evince a wide divergence of opinions about the moral acceptability of a number of behaviors. Americans are generally accepting of such things as birth control, divorce, embryonic stem cell research, gambling, sex between unmarried men and women, the death penalty, and having a baby outside of marriage. But they still disapprove of married men and women having an affair, cloning humans, polygamy, suicide, pornography, and teenagers having sex. Survey Methods Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted May 2-7, 2013, with a random sample of 1,535 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points. Interviews are conducted with respondents on landline telephones and cellular phones, with interviews conducted in Spanish for respondents who are primarily Spanish-speaking. Each sample of national adults includes a minimum quota of 50% cellphone respondents and 50% landline respondents, with additional minimum quotas by region. Landline telephone numbers are chosen at random among listed telephone numbers. Cellphone numbers are selected using random digit dial methods. Landline respondents are chosen at random within each household on the basis of which member had the most recent birthday. Samples are weighted to correct for unequal selection probability, nonresponse, and double coverage of landline and cell users in the two sampling frames. They are also weighted to match the national demographics of gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education, region, population density, and phone status (cellphone only/landline only/both, cellphone mostly, and having an unlisted landline number). Demographic weighting targets are based on the March 2012 Current Population Survey figures for the aged 18 and older U.S. population. Phone status targets are based on the July-December 2011 National Health Interview Survey. Population density targets are based on the 2010 census. All reported margins of sampling error include the computed design effects for weighting. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls. I think standing where you are, today's ruling is trivial xiin. All it means is that in states that have already recognized same sex marriage, the federal government will treat them the same: The can jointly file taxes, pay lower taxes on inheritances, claim the SSI benefits. Mind, the court that decided this is conservative majority. The same court that revoked the voting rights act a few days ago.

on independence day no less. They should put in house arrest in one the islands of the coast -
lol that is over reacting a little. If like you, certain status and the federal government don't object to their rights, there is no need for discriminatory laws in the books. The law should treat everyone equal. my two cents

Meanwhile they are free to visit Khaatumo controlled cities as they usually do, Xudun, Taleex and buhoodle. -

man! bad advice abounds in this thread. Listen Somalee, what you name your child is hugely important. There is a whole freakonomics episode that you should really look into on how the name of applicants effects how they fair in the job market. Give your kid a african american name and you have damned your kid to an early, whats the word, howl-gab-nemo? Give him an Arabic name and you have guaranteed him constant and permanent "random checks" at airports and ports of entry which will probably give the kid life physiological issues and alienation. Give him a Somali name and you've handed him both on a silver platter. Exaggerations aside, play safe, go with something like Adam, Hanna, Sophia (Sophie if you wanna be hip). You hit all the right spots, career, English and arabic sounding name. All else fails, go the West African route and name the child names like goodluck, rejoice, godspeed, who can argue with names like that lol

Breaking News: Big explosions going on right now in Xamar
Naxar Nugaaleed replied to Cambuulo iyo bun's topic in Politics
This is sad walahi but I wonder what sort of investigation the forces in Muqdishu can do. Are there surveillance cameras in the compound? If they can identify these people, they should find out where they had tea this morning and who is sheltering these animals. Is it me or should aiding and sheltering these people be crime of the highest order? For those who lost their lives and the brave souls who decided to work in that environment, rest in peace. -

goorma ruunta leysu sheegaya? Somaliland built its first street in 2013, this civil society can't even muscle waste management let alone anything and the salaries of members of this "government" are paid by the UN. ictiraaf iyo siad barre ba shaqo laga degtay. goodness

These sort of rankings are meaningless when its comes places like Somalia, its all guess work. we don't even know the population let alone murder rate. i have no doubt a lot african and latin american nations would be worse then Somalia if we knew for a fact what the population is and the murder rate. Rapes would probably drag us down though.

SOLers of late are absolutist who see everything in black and white. Every thing has two camps and some here have boiled down what's happening in turkey into Islamist vs. secularist. as baffling as a lot of Somalis affinity for Islamist is, as opposed to people who advocate religious freedom, freedom of thoughts, the issues are more then that. There are those who dislike this man's authoritarian streaks. this can be gleamed from what they did to peaceful protesters yesterday. on the one hand, just like an egotistical dictator, he bused in his supporters from every corner. His opposition on the other hand were met with batons , tear gas, water canons and over zealous "supporters" who man handled protesters along with the police. The Police attack on a German hospital resulted in a miscarriage. Medical workers were arrested. Journalist and civilians have been arrested. businesses who provided refuge from the police onslaught have been called terrorist supporters. Imagine the kind of delusion it takes to call millions of your citizens terrorist and business people and medical workers and hospitals terrorist supporters who "will be dealt with"? If not before, he has now shown his true colors without doubt and is guilty of all the charges being leveled at from secularist, democrats, environmentalist and Turkish patriots who refuse to bite a poisonous apple disguesed as economic development only meant to destroy their foundations and ideals.
