The Dawkins Delusion: A response to Richard Dawkins
Naxar Nugaaleed replied to N.O.R.F's topic in General
is it not circular logic to quote scripture in debating this topic. Further, rather then presenting random findings might I suggest each camp getting their evidence and lets which is more logical... As for the ones asking about might my religious believes, might I suggest that we focus on the content of a discussion rather then who said? -
Just a thought for all the male Somali homophobes, I come across this study in some random class...my own cut and paste job for the day... New Study Links Homophobia with Homosexual Arousal August 1996 Press Release WASHINGTON -- Psychoanalytic theory holds that homophobia -- the fear, anxiety, anger, discomfort and aversion that some ostensibly heterosexual people hold for gay individuals -- is the result of repressed homosexual urges that the person is either unaware of or denies. A study appearing in the August 1996 issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), provides new empirical evidence that is consistent with that theory. Researchers at the University of Georgia conducted an experiment involving 35 homophobic men and 29 nonhomophobic men as measured by the Index of Homophobia scale. All the participants selected for the study described themselves as exclusively heterosexual both in terms of sexual arousal and experience. Each participant was exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual and lesbian videotapes (but not necessarily in that order). Their degree of sexual arousal was measured by penile plethysmography, which precisely measures and records male tumescence. Men in both groups were aroused by about the same degree by the video depicting heterosexual sexual behavior and by the video showing two women engaged in sexual behavior. The only significant difference in degree of arousal between the two groups occurred when they viewed the video depicting male homosexual sex: 'The homophobic men showed a significant increase in penile circumference to the male homosexual video, but the control [nonhomophobic] men did not.' Broken down further, the measurements showed that while 66% of the nonhomophobic group showed no significant tumescence while watching the male homosexual video, only 20% of the homophobic men showed little or no evidence of arousal. Similarly, while 24% of the nonhomophobic men showed definite tumescence while watching the homosexual video, 54% of the homophobic men did. When asked to give their own subjective assessment of the degree to which they were aroused by watching each of the three videos, men in both groups gave answers that tracked fairly closely with the results of the objective physiological measurement, with one exception: the homophobic men significantly underestimated their degree of arousal by the male homosexual video. Do these findings mean, then, that homophobia in men is a reaction to repressed homosexual urges, as psychoanalysis theorizes? While their findings are consistent with that theory, the authors note that there is another, competing theoretical explanation: anxiety. According to this theory, viewing the male homosexual videotape may have caused negative emotions (such as anxiety) in the homophobic men, but not in the nonhomophobic men. As the authors note, 'anxiety has been shown to enhance arousal and erection,' and so it is also possible that 'a response to homosexual stimuli [in these men] is a function of the threat condition rather than sexual arousal per se. These competing notions can and should be evaluated by future research.' Article: 'Is Homophobia Associated With Homosexual Arousal?' by Henry E. Adams, Ph.D., Lester W. Wright, Jr., Ph.D. and Bethany A. Lohr, University of Georgia, in Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Vol. 105, No. 3, pp 440-445. The American Psychological Association (APA), in Washington,DC, is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world's largest association of psychologists. APA's membership includes more than 142,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students. Through its divisions in 49 subfields of psychology and affiliations with 58 state and Canadian provincial associations, APA works to advance psychology as a science, as a profession and as a means of promoting human welfare.

You guys remind me of the witch hunters in monty python sketch. A mob demanding, in this case, a member should be banned for his views: He has insulted our culture, our woman and now our children, lol. Come down people, no harm is done, if don't like someone's view of things, move along. -

The Dawkins Delusion: A response to Richard Dawkins

Look Norfsky, someone who arrived at atheism mostly arrived at it through three paths: 1: Dogmatic contradiction: the holy scripture are full of contradictions (biblical time lines)or just contain appalling directives to our modern sensibilities (Stoning, decapitation, hand choppings...) 2:Basic scientific knowledge contradicts religious dogma, there's just no room for dinosaurs and common descent of primates in a world that was made in seven days and contains advanced species that are only four thousand years old. 3:a philosophical or logical conundrum: How can evil, both moral and natural coexist with an omniscient, omnibenevolent and omnipotent God? Forget Richard and address these mr. norfsky -
there is no way to proof God's existence just as it is impossible to disproof it. The Arrogance of you people in thinking that the whole of humanity should share you worldview. Reality is your fact check people: For everyone that finds special meaning in quranic or biblical passages, there are those who don't. If your faith in God relies on millions of other also believing him, then your faith might not be as strong as you think it is. Atheist, theist, buddhist, confucius, anamist, be and let be.

^ Unfortunately, they have managed to divide the People themselves so who is to hold who accountable. Xaji sxb its not a matter of me going along with rer ssc, the truth of the matter is that the people are divided along many competing camps. And to be honest, despite my own wishs, Somaliland is looked at with more suspicion then the other two camps and its supporters are seen as either fools (Aden cade, qaybe...)or greedy war profiteers. As you put it, Rer hawd are all supporting xaglatosiye guy whereas the rer nugaaled are divided among the three camps village by village. This is how I see it: This idea that one of the camps will win and impose their ideology on the rest is foolish despite the fact that this is what all three are exactly trying to do. Two, outside interference must cease. Once the real will of the people is ascertained and the people are united, then each can present its case. I believe Somaliland has a good case to make: Hopelessness of the south, Puntlands neglect of these regions and peoples and lastly a northern identity. If it interferes in inter SSC squabbles, it will successfully be branded as a warmonger. is that what your advocating for?
-
^ a little hyper partisan in that assessment ya haji. I actually liked what Cade Muuse had to say: You must Unite, nothing could be achieved without unity. I think this is something for all the camps (Puntland, Somaliland and darwiishland) of rer SSC could get behind. All the resources and efforts of the people of SSC will be wasted until then. I wish the Garaad of Garaads luck in his endeavor.

Though we should all support regulating the Somali currency, because its much needed and hopefully done by competent hands, I Wonder if its the sorta a thing a gov with a existential threat literally at its doorstep should be pondering at the moment. -

I never understood this double standard, perhaps some of you pro Shariah people can clear it up for. As a religious minority, you (All of you) more then any should see the wisdom of Secularism. What if the people of these countries (West) we live in thought like you. We would be living in christian nations not being able practices our faith or faiths as we see fit. Is not a malicious hypocrisy to enjoy the freedom of religion you have here but advocate theocracies. How do you reconcile this?
