  1. OG Girl, don't even mention the name Umar Jes anymore. The name irritates my ears, I hate that little fellow with a passion! Smith, I agree. The priority is to bring Puntland and Xamar together. Somaliland allready has peace, so there's no rush there.
  2. Saxardiid, I agree, the man is very smart and hardworking. No wonder, he got as far as being the top man of Somalia. On the other hand though, I think Mogadihsu will be a greater challenge than Somaliland for the new president. Mogadishu is militarily very strong, but lack in diplomacy. While Somaliland is militarily weak (they froze after Puntland's attack), but are diplomatically very strong. The latter has allready lost on both fronts, because Somaliland is fighting for legitimacy, something only Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed possesses now. That's why it's useless if he appoints a prime minister from Somaliland, he'll have to choose a credible one from Mogadishu, preferably Caddow or Qanyare. Mogadishu can start a war and bring us back to the stone age, ignoring them, as they're allready angry, would be a fatal mistake. Ignoring Somaliland will not change anything however, since it's fully pledged by anyone that they will never ever recognize Somaliland. They'll be adressed peacefully to become a federal state within Somalia, if they refuse, Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed always has his last option of invading NorthWest region with not only Puntland troops but from the rest of Somalia and International Forces under his command.
  3. I hope it will be this: Maybe they're names are both Abdullahi and both come from Galkayo, Mudug. Still they're worlds apart. PRESIDENT Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed A strong, military man. Controls a large part of Somalia effectively and is able to bring peace, order and unity to our wartorn nation. A man known for his rebel history against Siad Barre regime. Part of the SRRC alliance. PIME MINISTER Abdullahi Ahmed Addow A diplomatic politician. Masters a lot of connections with the international community as ambassador to the US and minister in the Siad Barre regime. A man known for his participation of the Siad Barre regime. Friendly ties with SRRC's rival.
  4. Left, Mayor of Baidoa and in the middle, the governor of Bay.
  5. Can't wait to see him giving his first speech in the UN headquarters assembly. The deal was the new president will travel all over the world to meet colleague presidents to make his case to the world.
  6. THE VALUE OF PEACE My usual subax wanagsan (good morning) greeting from Shamis, my Somali cook was replaced by "Abdilahi Yusuf!" Still half-awake I heard her babble angrily in Somali as she prepares breakfast. Our office driver, a former SNM fighter, greeted me with "Today I am ready for war." In the car I was filled with stories about how people reacted about the results of the elections and were told about rumors of military movements last night and the drafting of former SNM fighters. He said nationalist songs about Somaliland and the bravery shown during the fight for Somaliland's liberation were repeatedly played in the radio the whole night. Sentiments of Somalilanders about Abdilahi Yusuf's victory are mixed. Some welcomed it for reasons that it would draw his attention away from Somaliland and focus it more to gathering support from the people from South. For others however, Abdilahi Yusuf's name only means one thing, war. The women are quite warry about the possibility of conflict it may bring to the country. It's not because they fear defeat, because they don't believe in that but more because of the "thought of experiencing war all over again." My day ended with a long conversation with a well respected Aqil from Togdheer. The conversation evolved around an orientation of sorts about the dynamics of Somali clan politics and stories about experiences during the war and the peace processes they conducted. I couldn't help but ask, what made them unite and forgive each other to achieve peace. "Because we suffered and we know the meaning of suffering, we cannot imagine doing the same thing again to others and kill people because of their clan identity. It just had to stop. When you've fought against an oppressor, why allow yourself to become one?" he answered. However Somalilanders feel at present, one common sentiment remains the same, they are tired of conflict and greatly value the peace they are currently experiencing. 7. Rahima, there's no proof at all that he bribed people. As in matter of fact I don't think he did, at least not bluntly. Because the votes are still anonymous, so the Mps can take the cash and vote for someone else. He's accepted by the majority of Somalis, just get it through your head, damn it! He' chosen by the overwhelming majority of the parliament, of wich all factions and tribes were represented. But to make your lame comment about "the average somalis" a total joke. Look what happenned in Somalia, they didn't only celebrate in Puntland you know. They also celebrated i the rest of Somalia, except for Mogadishu and Somaliland cities, because they feel defeated and humiliated by some crazy way. Some see it as their best hope for peace and unity of Somalia, some see it as an extension of a particular Somali tribe's traditional domination over the other Somali tribes. That's tragic!
  8. Finally he's not only my kinsman, my Tolka , anymore. Now, he's also president of Somalia! If that's not a grin on that face, I don't know either.
  9. lander, not that their votes mattered, since he won with 189 against 79 in the last round, but yes, most Somaliland votes went to him. Other Somalilanders opted for Caddow for tribal reasons.
  10. pretty funny how the man who's being accused of being a dictator has won the most honest elections Somalia has ever had in an amazing way.
  11. funny how Somali people everywhere didn't sleep last night! Some didn't sleep, because they were busy celebrating and I bet the rets couldn't sleep out of caloolxanuun iyo oohin.
  12. Smith, I find that very hard to belive. It was the ordinary people of Kismayo whom were celebrating not the militiamen.
  13. this is the day hope for the return of Somalia's glory is not a dream anymore, it's REALITY!!!!
  14. this is BBC reporting, damn the cadaan are even faster than some of our own websites. Somalia MPs elect new president if Siad Barre and Aidid would be alive to see this The new president's first task is to appoint a prime minister Somalia's interim parliament has chosen Abdullahi Yusuf as the new president in the latest bid to bring political stability to the lawless African state. The election was held in a sports stadium in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, because Somalia's capital is still considered too dangerous. The country has seen numerous attempts to restore order since 1991 when warlords ousted the military ruler. Chaos followed, as rival militias fought and two million Somalis fled. Clear winner Sunday's election was the culmination of two years of often difficult negotiations in Nairobi. The election followed two years of peace talks After two rounds of voting and three voluntary withdrawals, the field was narrowed down from 28 to just two candidates. Abdullahi Yusuf, a military strongman and president of the Somali semi-autonomous region of Puntland, was going head-to-head with Abdullahi Adow, a financier and former ambassador to Washington. After the final third round, Abdullahi Yusuf emerged the winner by securing 189 votes against 79 for his run-off rival. His election was greeted by loud cheers in the hall, the BBC's Adam Mynott in Nairobi reports. The 275 MPs, most of them clan leaders and warlords, had earlier queued to go through metal detectors and enter Nairobi's Kasarani Sports Centre Gymnasium, which is serving as the election venue. As the voting began the MPs - who were nominated in August - were called one by one to cast their votes in transparent ballot boxes. In his first speech Abdullahi Yusuf pledge to reconcile Somalis and bring peace to the country. His first job will be to choose a prime minister, our correspondent says. In faction and clan-ridden Somalia, this decision will be made after considerable horse-trading, much of which has been going on in the corridors and backrooms of the sports hall. Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed is not expected to return to Somalia for at least two months, our correspondent says. Before voting began, parliamentary speaker Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden urged the international community to recognise the outcome and Somalis to support whoever was elected. One of the candidates who pulled out, outgoing transitional President Abdulkassim Salat Hassan, said he was ready to do that. "That is democracy," he said. Decade of chaos The stadium was packed while thousands more Somalis gathered outside where heavily armed Kenyan police were patrolling the venue. Parliament-in-exile Somalis are hoping that a new administration under a new president and prime minister will set them on the road to peace and stability. But optimism is tempered by the knowledge that there have been numerous failed attempts to restore stability, correspondents say. Somalia descended into chaos as rival militias tore the country apart after the military ruler Mohammed Siad Barre was overthrown. Many of the two million Somalis who fled became refugees in neighbouring countries. ========================================================== Profile: Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Abdullahi Yusuf rebelled against former dictator Siad Barre The Somali parliament has chosen a new president, in the first tentative step towards forming a government after 13 years of civil war. He is Abdullahi Yusuf, 69, a powerful warlord and president of the Somali semi-autonomous region of Puntland. A soldier by profession, he was once a senior officer in the Somali armed forces under Somali dictator Siad Barre in the 1970s. He refused to co-operate with the military rulers and rejected an offer of a diplomatic posting. His plot to overthrow President Barre in April 1978 failed and he was forced to flee the country to Ethiopia. From there he started a jungle war and continued his bid to unseat Barre. He is a member of the Ethiopian-backed Somali Reconstruction and Restoration Council (SRRC) - a loose coalition of opposition warlords, which was the main challenge to the TNG. From one of the six major clans - the Dar00d - his approach to leadership is thought to be authoritarian and he is said to have strong support from the Ethiopian government for his presidential bid.

  19. yes sophist, he's the brother of Puntland's vice president Muhammad Abdi Hashi.
  20. Bari Nomad: and BBC Somali, but it's audio. AllPuntland Boosaaso: Lacag Koox Culimo Ah ka Uruurinayso Boosaaso oo Shaki ka Taagan yahay PuntlandPost Beenin qoraal ay qortay Shabakada Wararka ee Allpuntland.com Rahima: My dear, these two men have nothing to do with the fundraising. There were suspicions that the money would go to them without the Rer Bosasod knowing it. But fortunately that's not true and it goes straightly to Bosaso's University EAU and it's expanding faculties in Galkayo. loooool what are you saying about us! Well, Somalis here eat a lot of qaad compared to the rest of Ozzie, I must admit. But I don't know, maybe it has got to something to do with the fact that there's only water between Perth and my homeland Somalia. So things can get smuggled in easily. I pity you guys in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney. We Somalis in Perth are reminded of our beautiful Somalia every single day by the African like environment here. They trees and everything look just like that of Somalia, we even have acacia trees. Only down side is I don't get to meet many Somalis I can disagree on things, since virtually everbody here's from Puntland. I have a question; Do you study in LaTrobe University?
  21. A couple of melbournians eyh? Well, I can't vote, but I sure as hell hope Latham will win. I heard the Somali community in Melbourne have trouble with the racist police, is that true? I mean, in Perth we Somalis get along with everyone, we're no troublemakers like you guys!
  22. Saxardiid, this is what's Puntland doing for years. The resources are equally allocated through Bosaso, Garowe, Galkayo, Badhan and Las Anod. So the cities will all develop, I'm 100% sure Puntland would become a one-city state if Bosaso had all these resources, it would be much easier for the Puntland government. As of Hargeisa having rised from the ashes as a phoenix, I totally agree on that. But don't give it too much credit, since other cities have grown in that same area like Burao. It must have been a natural development, not an extraordinary one. The city of Galkayo for instance, the capital of Mudugh, has not been levelled to the ground like Hargeisa for 70%, but it was a warzone throughout the whole entire 80s and 90s, the last attack from the USC militia occured just 3 years ago, before the Puntland troops took extreme countermeasures and settled their troops in USC land, south of Galkayo. The city has witnessed bombardments of Ethiopia, Siad Barre and of course the USC. Nevertheless, Galkayo too, has prospered boomingly and grown ridiculously. And that for a city in the most insecure situation of all, being the frontier city between the peaceful north and the chaotic south as it is. The city has managed to have adequate medical and educational services for the people, wich are now mostly private. And the city looks a lot more modern than it used to, but it has lost it's friendly, quiet villagecharacter forever. But still, I've been to Somalia lately and Garowe and Bosaso are far more advanced on many fronts than Galkayo. Especially Bosaso if I might add. Those cities can credit that to there more secure and stable circumstances they hold themselves in. Same thing can be said about Hargeisa.
  23. When did I say I supported the money collected for their cause. The lies were that they were raised for those two terrorists, whom wreck tribal havoc in the banners of Islam. The money is going to East Africa University in Bosaso and Galkayo.
