This is an interesting question. I know a very large majority of us are fasting this month and we pray like clock-work. But how much of what we eat is halaal ? Hopeful someone here has more insight on this. I read a shiekh from South Africa who said they had to protest and boycott fast food restuarants until they started using halaal meat. He moved to Canada and appealed to the fast food company's hear but they ignored him so. I realized it was a BIG question that no-one really pays attention too (could it be just me?) What are we eating?

This guy has four daughters who all live at home. One Friday night the doorbell rings. The guy answers it and a kid standing there says 'Hi, I'm Freddy. I'm here to pick up Betty. We're gonna go eat spaghetti. Is she ready?' The man, mildly amused calls down his daughter and the two leave. A few minutes later the doorbell rings again and he answers. A kid standing there says 'Hi, I'm Jim. I'm here to see Kim. We're gonna go for a swim. Can I come in?' The guy, now perplexed, says yes and the two take off. A few minutes later the doorbell rings and again the father answers. A kid standing there says 'Hi, I'm Joe. I'm here to pick up Flo. We're gonna go to the show. Can she go?' The man, now kind of annoyed says yes and the two depart. Sure enough, af few minutes later the door rings and the father answers. A kid standing there says 'Hi, I'm Chuck..' The father shot him.

"Separation occurs at the point of enlightenment." In any situation there comes a point when you see things in a totally different light (Dr. Covey's famous Paradigm Shift). I think that's when we start thinking "why can't everyone see what I see?" Sophist, you make some very valid observations on the current state of Somali youth, but on the same token I could use you and a number of other Nomads in this forum to argue the exact opposite. I've heard a number of explanations as to why we seem to be stagnant; Culture, Religion, Ambition, etc. In my opinion we as Somalis have a culture that is as vibrant, active and colorful as any other. Our support for it is evident in our Ethnocentrism...we ALL have it. So I doubt that problems lies there. Religion is so engrained in most of that even when we seem to "wander" away from it we find that the rules still guide us because it makes sense. So the problem isn't really religion based. Ambition is next. Ambition (or lack of the same) doesn't discriminate across racial, social or even financial lines. Ambition is craving sparked inside us to achieve something, to create something, to improve something. There can be no ambition if there is no stimulation of the mind. Some of us might misinterpret that as education, but I've seen too many "educated" individuals who specialize in quoting famous lines and indulging in their new-found class rather than effectively using their talents. Instead they group up amongst themselves and move as far away from the little people. This brings me back to my first statement "Separation occurs at the point of enlightenment." And this ties in directly with my proposed solution to this dilemma. Most of the youth today need to see "it" work. We need to see Somali people achieve something and not scurry off to distance themselves from their people. Role Models, Sophist. Show us it works and then maybe that can be the spark that ignites our ambition. I thinks it may be futile to tell people what to do rather than show them

Looks like some people are a little too concerned about what happens to "our" stars. We're in an era where image consultants "build" images and tabloids and the general media slant news to destroy those carefully crafted images. Sports, movie and music stars in the news everyday and some of us have nothing better to talk about than who's screwing who and who snorting what and who was seen where with who. Kobe could very well be a rapist or a pedophile or a serial killer. And if you think the media is over covering the matter, maybe it's because you get glued to the TV everytime you here "Latest developments on the Kobe case". Instead of worring about the hundreds and thousands of Somalis that could use you sympathies and prayers and the millions of Muslims around the world that suffer in silence in Palestine, Afganistan, Kashmir and Indoniesia. So if you wanna blind yourself to that and shed a tear for a 25 yr old multi-millionarie who cheats on his wife, you go right ahead....tie a ribbon on a tree or for him light a candle. By now you should all know the US justice system is a joke and real guilt or innocence has nothing to do with it. Bottom line is he's standing in a court room because he couldn't keep it in his pants and he will pay for it.

Last wish or not, parents give guidance and strong suggestions. I agree with the two ladies before me....your parents wouldn't ask if they felt it wasn't good for you. but at the end of the day if I feel Hooyo didn't see the big picture when she made the request then I wouldn't marry her.

Kobe already admitted to adultery. Since we're all Muslims here (or so I think), we know that's a major sin punishable by death. So with that said I my humble opinion he crossed the line and (to me) it's irrelevant whether it was consentual or not. He should pay the price. Now if you want analyse this in a kafir mentality where the adultery is an issue between him and his wife, then there isn't much to consider. what really happened in that room comes down to his word against hers. Unless either of them personally lied to you before, it's all speculation.

REPUBLICANS never last they always come in and mess stuff up then leave the clean up to the in coming decocrats. Have you ever noticed, every time a Democratic president is sworn in, the US is at war and their economy is in the dump?????
-
Arnold is a successful business man and a connected republican....So here what happens, 1) Privatize everything (energy price hike and shortages in the near future. 2) massive tax breaks and incentives for Big business 3)California is the 7th largest economy IN THE WORLD. so if you thought living in Cali was pricey before, you're in for it now. Gray Davis was a crook and everyone knew it. Well Arnold is not a petty crook, him and his backers will plunder, loot and rape California beyond recognition but then again I could be wrong.

I think morality has everything to do with. Promiscuity is lack of moral grounding. No second chances in this case but most of the time I guess some of us get away with doing things we know very well we shouldn't be doing. Is there fault to be placed in this situation? In my personal opinion, YES -Since we don't know how he got it (could have been an accident) we know he's very much at fault for deliberately infecting women. -Are the women guilty? YES...(not his wife) but rest of of them are guilty...unless they got the virus through immaculate infection is it harsh? YES an unfortunate situation, but hardly an accident. We all know about this disease and we ALL know there are no second chances. So calculate your stats and probabilities all you want to justify this and that. Bottom line, Morality is the best protection from HIV and AIDS.

Ism't it like two sides of the same coin...these days in order to saty true to your tradition you sorta have to be a modern superwoman....

I guess the age of Innocence isn't over until reality hits close to home. Entrepreneur, you're very naive to think he's not somali ( which is technically beside the point). You can place blame where ever you want, unless she picked the virus up from a toilet seat, they engaged in the act and they're both paying for it. I think the guy evil for trying to knowingly infect these women and he should be dragged into the street and shot. As for the woman/women, unless this guy is running around raping them, they got what they deserved. No accidents, no mistakes. premeditated actions that involved some thought before it happened. Stand for something or fall for anything. They get no sympathy from me. Somealien - good point and i agree there will always be innocent by-standers, but seems it's not the case here.

Little Johnnie sees his Daddy's car passing the play-ground and go into the woods. Curious, he follows the car and sees Daddy and Aunt Jane in a "Passionate Embrace". Johnnie finds this so exciting and can barely contain himself as he runs home and starts to tell his mother excitedly: "I was at the playground and I saw Daddy's car go into the woods with Aunt Jane. I went back to look and he was giving Aunt Jane a big kiss, then he helped her take off her shirt, then Aunt Jane helped Daddy take his pants off, then Aunt Jane layed down on the seat, then Daddy.." At this point, Mommy cut him off and said, "Johnnie, this is such an interesting story. Suppose you save the rest of it for suppertime. I want to see the look on Daddy's face when you tell it tonight." At the dinner table, Mommy asks Johnnie to tell his story, so Johnnie starts his story, describing the car into the woods, the undressing, laying down on the seat, and... "...then Daddy and Aunt Jane did that same thing Mommy and Uncle Bill used to do when Daddy was in the army."

A Baptist missionary was walking in Africa when he heard the ominous padding of a lion behind him. "Oh Lord," prayed the missionary, "Grant in Thy goodness that the lion walking behind me is a good Christian lion." And then, in the silence that followed, the missionary heard the lion praying too: "Oh Lord," he prayed, "We thank Thee for the food which we are about to receive."

From 15 to 20, women are like Africa - Part virgin and part explored. From 21 to 35, women are like Asia- Hot and exotic. From 35 to 45, they are like the United States - Fully explored and free with their resources. From 45 to 55, they are like Europe - Exhausted, but still interesting in places. From 55 on, they are like Australia - Everybody knows it's down there , but nobody cares very much.

I may have posted this before, but it just cracked me up again... Three bulls are all living on a farm very happily. One day the farmer came home and stated that he had just bought a new bull at the auction and that he would be arriving soon. Well this would disrupt the society that the bulls had established amongst themselves, so they decided to have a meeting. The first bull says, "I have been here 5 years and we have established a nice community of cattle. We have divided the 100 cows between us so that each of us are happy. I am not going to give this new guy any of my cows." The second bull says, "I have been here 3 years and I have me 50 cows. I feel that I can take care of these cows just fine. I am not giving this new guy any of my cows. He is going to have to get his own." The third bull says, "I have only been here a year, but you guys have treated me really well. You were nice enough to give me 10 of your cows and for that I am really thankful to you guys. Since I only have 10 cows I am not going to give this new guy any of my cows. He is on his own." With it decided that no cows were going to be given to the new bull, the meeting was adjourned just as a tractor-trailer pulled onto the farm. The driver dropped the ramp of the trailer to let this new bull out. Off the truck came the biggest bull anyone had ever seen. The ramp bent underneath the massive weight of this bull. He weighed in at 4700 pounds. The ground shook with every step he took. The first bull looked at the other two and said, "Well on second thought, we might as well be neighborly to this new guy. He looks like he is pretty cool. I think I will let him have a some of my cows." The second bull says, "You know, on second thought I really don't think I can take care of all 50 of my cows. I think I will let this new guy have some. He looks nice enough." The first and the second bull look at the third bull. The third bull has his head down and he is scraping the ground fixing to charge the new bull. The first bull says, "Now son, I know you are still young and you want to protect your cows, but are you sure your 10 cows are worth you losing your life?" The third bull says, "Oh no, he can have ALL my cows. I am just making sure he knows I am a bull!"
