  1. Granted you have a good point Ms word. ...and I'll gladly drop this whole issue. thanks for the enlightenment.
  2. Desire said "....prophet PBUH encouraged us to display our disapproval towards anything that our Religion frowns upon, if not through action through words." It's a verfiable statement. LayZieGirl, None of here are perfect Muslims, we have our faults. However, I doubt anyone here will oppose the Islamic laws. (which is what it sounds like you're doing.) You sound like you have doubts about your faith because if you believed in what your religion tells you wouldn't be ashamed to tell someone what they're doing is wrong and commend others for doing right. You find it easier to follow social behaivour that way you don't have to burden yourself with thinking. You're adrift sister, just floating with the tide. And before you fire back, check yourself and who you think you are. It's because of non-caring people like you who choose to "mind their own busniess" that everything haram becomes normal. When you're muslim brother (or as you call him "that guy")starts smoking some weed and drinking, you shrug it off as not being your responsibilty to try and stop him, it's none of your business right? Or when your muslim sister starts degrading herself by exposing her body and "having a good time" at the club, you think "so what? its not my problem if she becomes a sleazy ho." You just don't care about anyone and anything. What ever knowledge you have is wasted on you cause you're too selfish to share a word of wisdom with those who need it. Being a member of society means contributing to it, not letting it degrade. I suggest you take a seriously long study of what SADAQA means cause you need the lesson
  3. ‘On the day of Qiyaamat, first shall you be reminded of the blessing of good health and being granted cold water to drink. You will not be allowed to move from the court of Allah Ta’ala until you have answered 5 questions: a) How did you spend your life, b) How did you utilise your youth, c) How did you earn your wealth, d) How did you spend it, e) How did you act upon your acquired knowledge." Thats what it's about Nuune... do you honestly want to stand there and say "Well, um...since I had some loose change lying around, I decided to shell out 30 Mil on a my sweet little girls wedding."

If they were niman rag ah, their women would treat them right. As for the 30m dollar wedding, is it the woman's fault that her father loved her enough to shower her materially with his affection? That just brings a tear to my eye. How incredibly loving and generous. *sniff* We can play the blame game until the cows come home. It's absolutely natural for some people to succeed and other to fail. If you feel comfortable pointing the finger at men and accusing them of not living up to their responsiblity, go ahead. I have neither the proof nor the desire to find a scapegoat to an issue that is better understood on individual merit rather than pre-disposition. Besides what have somali women done thats even noteworthy? Sounds to me like most of my somali sisters may have an inflated view of themselves...if the guys aren't worth anything and the women are just as good as the men I guess they can be worth nothing too...but again, thats a sweeping statement, I'm sure some of them (just like some men) are very capable and very successful....the rest are all scrapping the bottom of the barrel pointing fingers at a bunch of guys who really don't care. Back to Daddy's little girl. With all the poverty in India, this dude could feed the masses for a long time. But he'd rather spend 30 mil on an event for his daugther (or for his ego). It's an act of pure vanity...and 30 million clams later, he still won't be able to secure his daugther's happiness.
  5. 30 Million pounds is quite acceptable....consider the guy who built the Taj Mahal for the love of a woman. How many people died because of the love for Helen of Troy? Daddys paying for his little princess, that technically doesn't count. But if I had it I'd glady fork it over for an exquiste woman. From the samples I've seen thus far I think even $15,000 is a s t r e t c h. I'm sure there's few 10 Million pound candidates out there, but you gotta sorta through all the riff raff to to find them. and as for the lazy, qaat-chewing, shiisha smoking, internet-cafe sitting, welfare taking, irresponsible, and immature, Somali men... Maybe just maybe, their patronizing, critizing, nagging welfare guzzling, no job and no education having alleged 'reer magal' Somali women are the tumour sucking the life out of them. (Just a Thought)

WHAT BUSINESS DO YOU HAVE WHETHER OR NOT SHE LIVES WITH HER MAN? ...YOU PPLE NEED TO START WORRYING ABOUT YOUR LIVES, AND LESS WORRY OF STRANGER'S LIVES. LEARN THAT, AND Y'ALL JUST MIGHT LIVE IN PIECE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. LayZieGirl, maybe you missed the concept of "NEWS" : it is the telling of peoples lives. What I think you may have a problem with is how we interpret the information. Example: you took the news of my comment and felt it necessary to "call a spade a spade" and voice your disaproval of my actions. Yet another example: I read the news of a somali girl who is (as you put it) "living with her man" and I felt the need voice my disapproval of that. So you and I have both meddled in other peoples lives. I pointed out what I think is wrong...and you did the same. But the reason I said something is because I choose to speak out about what I think is wrong. If I see you on the street kissing another girl, as much as its none of my business, I'll tell you what I think. Do what you do with your life but people will always discuss success, failure, right and wrong you have no control over that. Your not accountable to anyone but God, so don't worry about what we have to say.
  7. It seems quite a few of you have had a plague of Hackers invading your system and viruses and spyware/adware slowing down your computers. Firstly, Mac sonkor for not giving your PC the respect it deserves and doing nothing to protect your investment. Ok moving on. GET THIS STUFF!!! IT'S FREE and IT WORKS!!! Spybot Search & Destroy SpywareBlaster ZoneAlarm Firefox Load the first one, and update it over the web, then reboot in safe mode and have it scrub your PC. Then Load each of the others in turn. You may be able to get your windows box to be almost as secure as a LINUX PC, provided you update and run the two spyware cleaners often. You can choose to be a victim or you can protect yourself.

  9. his girlfriend of several years was knocking at their apartment door Ain't that some sh*t? ilbaxniimo. That fact that she's illegitimatly shacked up with some guy for years is more interesting than the hostage drama. I wonder how common that is?
  10. OG_girl, I tried to figure out why you're everyones little sister in here but I couldn't. you just are. Mashallah. Keep the Imaan and everything will be good.

  12. Waranle, I tried quitting SOL a while back and just when I thought I was out, I gotta a letter from the SOL legal dept (I just think it was Mod on a power trip). They were very kind to inform me that if I did not return forthwith they would commence legal action for breach of contract (what contract???) and that there would be steep early termination penalty.
  13. Shyhem, I tried it. it IS spectacular the graphics are almost as good as the PS2. HOWEVER $250 for the hardware and $40 per game....it's not worth all that. Too much hype. It one of those things for people with money in the pocket and no mouths to feed.....kinda like the IPOD. Remember when the XBOX and PS2 were $400...now they're $150. My advice: they've already sold a couple of million units of PSP and about 10 million IPODs....so in when think logically and economically, the nature of capitalism dictates the price will drop and the market will be awash with used units. So bide your time and don't get sucked in by the hype

  15. I have a suggestion. How about creating a Somali Students Relief Fund? Even though everyone can't be helped, If we work together we can provide assistance to high achieving graduates. Check out the Math: *100 volunteers *$100 per Month Thats $120,000 a yr We screen candidates right here on SOL and those who qualify get 25% to 50% of their student loans paid. Now think in terms of the fund volunteers: Social service organisations, dadweenaha somaliyeed, Local business owners who would eventually benefit from a more educated youth demographic. 100 people in every Somali populated city is very realistic. So can we share some practical solutions? There's no 'text book' cure for this. This is what Financial institutions do...their stock and trade...bleed you slowly and keep you on the hook for as long as they can. They've perfected it. If you honestly think you'll play by their rules and win, think again. Radical thinking is needed. Groups for 4 or 5 loyal friends and/or relatives can make a pact to expediate payment on one persons debt while everyone else defaults...five people can pay off $25,000 in a year without hurting to much....and the next year you pay off member number 2 and so on. If you must do it alone, I said it before PAY NO ONE until you have the funds to pay it all....if you're still living the "minimum due" life then none of this probably makes sense to you (you're still pluged into the matrix). Credit ratings fix themselves so don't worry about them.

Thats the best solution I've heard yet. so next time you see him you can say "no, thanks, I already have one" or here's another plan...get some strong basbaas, vinegar and salt in a blender and use one of those little refillable spray bottles...aim for the eyes. If cops catch you with it...salad dressing.

  18. Kuwait, US in oil dispute Arab Times March 18, 2005 KUWAIT CITY (AFP): The United States and its staunch ally Kuwait are locked in a dispute over Washington's failure to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for fuel supplies for its army, a parliamentary source said Wednesday. Kuwait is asking the United States to pay some $500 million for fuel it supplied to the US army after the US-led war on Iraq two years ago but Washington has said it would pay less than one-third of the amount, the source told AFP on condition of anonymity. The London-based pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat said Wednesday that the dispute was disclosed a few days ago by Islamist MP Nasser al-Sane during a meeting with his voters. Sane said that before and during the Iraq war, Kuwait supplied the US army with fuel worth $450 million free of charge, its contribution to the overthrow of the regime of Saddam Hussein. Supplies continued after the war and the country recently demanded payment of $500 million after calculating the amount at a preferential price of $21 a barrel, Sane was quoted as saying. US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld responded with a tough-worded letter saying that Washington had liberated the country from Iraqi occupation in 1991 and because it enjoys a fiscal surplus, there was no need to demand the payment. Annoyed by the harsh response, the Kuwaiti government summoned US Ambassador Richard LeBaron in protest. Later, the US administration offered to pay seven dollars a barrel, Sane added. Sane's account was confirmed by the parliamentary source who said that Kuwait may soon dispatch the foreign and energy ministers to Washington to settle the dispute. Some 25,000 US troops are stationed in Kuwait which also served as a launchpad for the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003. NB: Current price of oil is $58 a barrel
  19. My thought of the day: Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink what comes out"?
  20. I think you should return the favour and stalk him for a bit. "Know Thy Enemy". Find out where he lives. Where he works. take pictures, if you get comfortable with the surveillance you may find yourself digging through his trash, thats nasty but if it helps you handle the situation better, more power to ya. Once you have armed yourself with more info than "that weird guy who's following me around", then it's time to execute the plan: a) You go to the police with a name, an address and some pics and make a complaint...make sure they make a report (put some stuff on file). b) Next time you see him in public, make a scene...a little boo hoo hoo, "why why why!!!" then run off (make sure you have witnesses). c) Get some brothers/cousins/uncles etc to flex on him next time he's on your block. If someone calls the cops you have a filed complaint on your side. You can choose not to be a victim. think of it as a proactive approach to self defence.
