^^It is hard to tell whether your son will turn out to be a neurosurgeon or trash-hauler, but all you can do is just keep praying and give them the best support. Your kids just need to understand that nothing is fun until they are good at it. They need to understand from parents that to get good at anything they have to work hard .This often requires fortitude on the part of the parent too and keep up with their progress. He did have the drive and seems all he wanted was the best for his kids.In my case my father did attend the British schooling system in Meru Kenya back during the colonial period until his father pulled him out of teachers training college to run the family business.His English was perfect and always was elected the Chairman of Parent and Teachers Association board.He was the voice of the few parents that couldn't read or write in that vast bureaucratic institution that shifts only slowly to the demands of the parents.He was not a man of many regrets, but he was deeply disappointed in a few of my older brothers who refusal to work hard in school.He always told them that there comes a time when I'll be gone and the uneducated ones will be fighting over the few family assets (commercial buildings) while the educated ones will be finding a place in this world...He inspired few of my extended cousins also to attend Nairobi University! He saw education as the key to many things.He always said money is easy to make, but hard to maintain;today you have, but tomorrow it may be gone. A very close family member brought his kids to the state back in the late 80's and today if you spend few minutes with him the first thing he will tell you is how he raised a bunch school drop-outs good-for-nothing kids that up to today depend on him.They refused to take advantage of all the West could offer.I never understood why he kept talking about them if they are grown people.My naive thinking was why doesn't he just shut his mind off of them.Since I got a son of my own I came to realize that the father's bond is a strong one.Even though they disapoint him they are still his kids and all he could do is just vent to the next person who will lend him an ear..Walle Nimaat dasshaay kumaadaalin (sp?)

Xiin and abtigis all the above you guys are saying looks and seems good, but the reality is different.You are still praying for the day the young people of Somaliland will staunchly yearn for a unified Somalia; so you can stand to benefit the spillover effect generated, but I'm afraid all you will be getting now seems like nothing short of something that creatively add to the project in progress.Not even economic development and power distribution will entice Somalilanders.Sadly, while it is true that the recent election have surfaced the deep clan poltics, but I doubt you will get to see a newborn fervent advocates for union with Somalia. In the absence of strong legal and political institution in Somaliland you will see more election problems to surface. It is upto Somaliland people to identify the set of conditions that create the policy space for their country to handle these most pressing problems that afflict their country.Just don't take any solace with Fowzia defection.The defectors from Somaliland always present glaring inconsistencies in their route to power.Don't be fooled

I'm for the argument good people can go bad online..haha..Few people reveal some consistency in their behaviours when they are alone compared to when with a company.There are things I can say here (of course without offending anyone and being skilled at my selective presentations) I'll dare not say in front of my wife.It is hard to do self-monitoring when you know you are talking to a bunch of strangers behind a screen.Any perceptions I read of anyone here clearly is not part of their real persona unless you are super good tissue and always in good behavior.Each of us is capable of exhibiting our real persona online, but then like Ngonge said it will kill the joy.Now knowing that anything you say in the internet can always be viewed by unintended audience you have to be careful when you are treading the uncharted waters.

Abtigis, Haha..I have a problem with the Somali spelling...Xaaji just need to chill and lower his guards..Funny story..Once I met a nice young Somali cabby and we started talking.After hearing my Somali accent the first question he asked me was if I belong to former President Riyalle qabiil.I didn't take offence at the question and today he is a close friend.I even personally mailed him an invitation card to my wedding and he did showed up.He fitted right in the crowd. He was from Sheikh Sharif clan..Until today we are good friends. He ask me for help in medical, dental and legal issues..Haha..even though sometimes I have no expertise in many of the areas..Something about Somalis and according respect to people that went to school...Good guy.

Having read Xaaji posts here I'd never have thought he is anti-social type. Most Somalis remain unworried about striking a conversation with a stranger! I personally have absolutely no problem meeting or striking up a conversation with a Somali person on the street.Matter fact I have met few nice people like that..I always meet taxi drivers or bump Somalis in restaurants. I usually don't initiate Conversations, but if they do I'm always comfortable with them. I always try to be receptive to their stories even when I know they buulshiting..hahha

Of course I'm not that stuuupid..haha..this was all for fun...

Abtigis, We are talking about the same person of course I'm not going to accept or deny the pendulum story then I'll be way out of the line...She has a beautiful family.Her family were, if not, the few Somalis that lived in that city.She speaks perfect Amhari....If you want it I'll pass her the news next time I visit her..My family and her family visit each other...
