Ayoub, i think you misunderstood my writting about Baashi's comment!. The off topic part i was talking about my comment and not Baashi's.

Lander i think their language is a little different.I remember one time a police officer stopped me on my way home and asked me if i can translate some Somali!. knowing that i wanted to be a good citizen(after breaking the law many times) i accepted to help!.Two "Bantu" family were in a Pistons versus Pacers kind like brawl.I did not understood a word that came out of their home!.I had to apologise to the Cop and withdraw my service!.

Baashi..this is off topic, like the way you wrote Isiolo..Siyollo.By the way that is where i grew up! Bye..i have to leave work and go home know!

The S/L night is more of a party than a charity fundraising to me!. The organizers of this events-with all due respect to them-need to organize an event with an objective and an appealing idea. All the events i have been to were more of a flop. The organizer were not clear as to what the event was all about. When you are doing an event like this, you should understand the undertone objective of the event. Is the event used to create an awareness or is it to create publicity?.Time is often the most helpfull instrument in such event. The S/L event mostly starts at midnight-hello, will this be helpful to the kids that are seeing their moms and dads shaking their "booty" for a charity cause that is supposed to be a serious event?, i will leave that to you to answer!.Somaliland aspiration to independant statehood is the main goal to many Somalilanders across the diaspora but will this be retained by their kids two geeneration down the hill?.The kids will more likely take it as another "party weekend", as i used to before!.

The dog reminds me an incident in Farah's book the "LINK", when Jebleh finds a dog mistreated by the native without any consideration, he shouts at them to stop mistreating the poor dog!. In most of the Muslim countries dogs are mistreated regardless of whether they are cute or usefull to human (dogs are good secutity). My question will be what right do animals have? The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way people treat their animals. Ngonge wanna join PETA ha , say what you know?

New members use mosquito repellants when necessary and follow label directions-site rules.Contact your local mosquito control district-the adminstariton, whenever you have unpleasnat experience with long standing cullicidae family (old members). Neighborhoods are occasionally sprayed to prevent disease(qabil) and nuisance caused by unpleasnat members especially in the political section. If you have any questions about mosquitoes and their control, contact the adminstration via Email, no raising complains in the forums. If there is a mosquito-borne disease warning in effect, stay away from such silly nuisance during the evening when mosquitoes are most active. There are about 5000 different species of insects in this site , all of which came from different habitats, they exhibit unique behaviors and they all bite differently. Despite these differences, all share some common traits, such as jumping to conclusion before thinking and reflecting on different subject. But one thing that i love about the place is the order that exists. So wellcome and join the Diptera order-be careful not to loose your wings in these forums!.

civil trespass suits are the typical remedy to redress unlawful searches and seizure like this one-depends on the law of the land though, in this case Dubai law rules. This is a little more overboard to me since personal privacy and dignity is at stake here.As for the guys having their last "mijin" a month before catching the plan, Hair testing is the newest method of drug testing and can accurately test for drug use within the previous 90 days, unlike Urine testing, on the other hand, which generally only provides accurate results for the previous five-day period.

One of the most intresting aspect of our culture is its ability to maintain our many older customs of ladies learning how to cook before they can even get...fill the blank. Computer -aided waitress in Denny's style restaurants is not what you will find in Somali restaurant. The waiters are rude and cough without saying excuse me!.So stick to your Thai-restaurant but make sure you order the following food 1. Fried rice-field grashoppers slightly seasoned with soy 2. Fried Cicada with spaghetti 3. Boiled wasp larvae as a soup 4. Larvae of aquatic insect boiled in a soy sauce. And also don't forget fried pupae of moth (you love this..tried it once in a Japanese restaurant). If you find the above menu too harsh for your taste appreciate your rude Somali waiter and stick to your Bariis and Hilib diet!

Today Earth day is a cause for celebration world wide , but it is also a year that we reflect on the enviromental disaster that has affected our home in the Horn of Africa-Somalia.Since the establishment of earth day-35 years ago-it has been an instrument in awakening the humanity to be a better stewards of the planet that we all call home.Today we as the citizens of the earth are celabrating the end of the regualarly horror stories about polluted lakes and air we breath-though we still got alot to do. The third world countries have been the dumping site of the developed world ever since the increase of hazardous waste. The latest assesment of the enviromental devastation carried out by the united nation enviromental program (UNEP) provides only a preliminary "aerial level look " of Tsunami impact on Somalia-god knows what they will find when they do "ground-level assesment".Evidence shows that tsunami stired up the nuclear and harzadous waste deposit that have been dumped illegally. The report pointed out waste like radioactive uranium, lead and cadium. This waste are suspected to be dumped by the developed nations under the permision of warlords. Nick Nuttall of the U.N. Enviromental program in Nairobi explained that "Somalia has been used as a dumping ground for hazardous waste starting about the early 1990s and continuing through the civil war there,†he noted. “European companies found it to be very cheap to get rid of waste there, costing as little as $2.50 a ton where disposal costs in Europe are something like $250 a ton. And the waste is many different kinds. There is uranium radioactive waste. There is leads. There is heavy metals like cadmium and mercury. There is industrial waste and there is hospital wastes, chemical wastes. You name it," said Mr. Nuttal. This disater reminds us that we all need an international cooperation to identify a lasting remedies to curb this kind of international environmental terrorism.Environmental terrorism does not respect geographical boundaries-it should be as much concern to us, as the other form of terrorism.Over the years what we have learned is that everyone of us has a stake when it comes to protecting our air, water, and natural places. The values we need to protect-like fairness, responsibility, health and safety-are universal. So there you are today probably done with your job assignement or you just left school going home.I need you to ask yourself "what can i do for the earth today?".Here are simple thing you can do to become an environmental consumer: Reuse and recycle paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, scrap metal, and yard wastes. Look for recycling symbol on products you buy. Such symbols identify recycled or recyclable products. Avoid buying products that use unnecessary packaging - either plastic or paper. Buy household goods and foods in bulk to minimize packaging waste. Buy rechargeable batteries for flashlights, toys, and household items. Carry your own reusable shopping bag. Consider using reusable mugs, glasses, dishes, cloth towels and sponges. Encourage your community and your school to begin recycling. Maintain and repair products. Donate usable materials to charities or thrift shops. Patronize local businesses and buy locally-produced foods and goods, both to promote a vital local community and prevent pollution generated by travel and shipping. "HAPPY EARTH DAY NOMADS"

The latest campaign to ban DDT stems from charges that DDT is an "endocrine disruptor" whose ability to cause harm is both indiscriminate and vast.So where did all the fuss start from?-if you may remember in 1962 Racheal book "Silent Spring" argued that DDT was poisoning both wildlife and environment. There is a contradictory statement about the effect of DDT within the scientific community.DR Amir Attaran a resercher at Havard center for international development, estimate that the amount of DDT used to spray a few acres of cotton in America during the era DDT, would be enough to spray all the homes in Guyana that are at risk of malaria endemic. He assets that such impact will have a neglible impact on the enviroment. This question is a question of choosing a priority and balancing risk. Some people may argue for case detection and medication (like sister Warrior of light)but this will only reduce mortality and not the cases of morbidity in poor countries. When you look at the most recent scientific studies about DDT they have yet to come up with a study linking DDT to breast cancer(as claimed before in the famous book "our stolen future"-remember that?).When Rachel Carson published her landmark study of the etiological damage caused by widespread use of DDT and other pesticides, it was a time of high enviromental alert in the USA.DDT should not be banned because the health benefit outweights the risks (i know this sounds scary to you!).In 1994 a study published in the "Journal of the national cancer institute", reserches concluded that their data did not support an association between DDT and breast cancer(check it out-Krieger, Haitt et al. Breast cancer and serum organochlorines april 20, 1994) There are other pesticides that works against malaria but they are as expensive as a doctors medical bill here in America!.Remember DDT is a one time application, this means alot to the poor people who can not afford to buy a preventive equipment (like nets and mosquito repelant).I know DDT is a has a long half-life and residues sometimes persisit for years in the enviroment but the amount of naturally ocuring estrogen dwarfs the amount of synthetic estrogen.

Yesterday was "DAY OF ACTION AGAINST CATERPILLAR".Caterpillar(American company, shameful to admit) supplies equipment used by the Israeli army to destroy Palestinians homes and infrastructure.Racheal Corrie an american peace activist was killed by Israeli caterpillar bulldozer. Her parent filled a law suit against CAT on march 15 this year.I was lucky to attend a lecture by Rachel Corrie sister. The above writer is right, there was no such thing an Arab terrorist until Israel stole palestine.

I agree with you Mutakallam on that explanation!. A valid argument is one in which there is no possible way for the premise to be true and the conclusion to be false. The truth of the premise of a valid argument gurantees the truth of the conclusion.A valid argument can have 1. false premise and true conclusion 2. false premise and a false conclusion 3. True premise and a true conclusion Lets look at this example, All cars are green in color, and Isuzu is a car.So all Isuzu are green in color. The above argument is true despite the fact of a false premise!. sound arguments are valid arguments all of whose premise are true.An argument becames invalid when you deny the antecedent( i usually confuse this with modus ponen)and when you affirm the consequent. Mutakallam if you don't mind could you please clarify for me the difference between the above invalid arguments i have mentioned and Modus pollen and Modus Tollen.I usually get them confused sometimes and usally commit fallacy!

DDT (DICHLORODIPHENYLTRICHLOETHANE)was first synthesized in 1877 but it was not until 1940 that a swiss chemist discovered that it could be sprayed on walls and would cause any insect to die within the next six month.DDT was introduced into widespread use during world war two and became the single most important pesticide against malaria elimination. The scientist who discovered it Dr Paul Muller was awarded the 1948 Nobel prize in physiology and Medicine. In America cases of malaria fell from120,000 in 1934 to 72 in 1960 and cases of yellow fever droped from 100,000 in 1878 to none.Insect became quickly resistant to the insecticide after a while. Marine scientist Rachel Carson demonstrated that DDT was concentrated in the food chain and effected the reproduction of predators such as Hawks and eagles.Malria is one of the leading killer disease in Africa.According to one of the chief malaria expert for the US Agency for international development, malaria would have been 98% eliminated had DDT continued to be used.Malaria is clouding the economic future of many countries in Africa.Today malaria is African problem but until 1920's it was American and European problem. Is it fair to ban DDT when the international community with all its might is not doing anything to fight malaria parasite other than preventive measures?.Do you think that DDT should be banned just because it is enviromental hazard to the birds? Should we meet human needs regardless of enviromental pollution or should we protect the water and the air we breath even if somehuman beings are dying by the thousands each year?.

As a young man when i want to descibe something as false i have to admit that a clear and definite argument has led me to conclude that it does not exist!.The inability to understand something does exist and the knowledge that lead me to beleive it doesn't exist are two different thing!.When i was in Africa if someone told me that half of the Americans are christians, I will be wondering as to how it is so,but at the same time i don't have the prove to deny this claim-This will be inability to understand. If i was to refute the messenger claim on the ground that i have never heard of such claim , all sensible people in this forum will consider me a unenlightened!.Your argument will be if i am unable to understand something, i am not entitled to deny its existance!. In the same way lets look at a religious example where we are told that the paradise and hell exist.Since no one has came back and reported to us that this things exist, we will wonder as to how it does exist!.When you deny the existance of the hell and paradise, you are just like when i denied back in Africa that half of the Americans are christians, because you will be denying this on the basis of what has been observed. ***This all shows us that ones inability to understand something is no argument for its being false!***.

i hope this will be a wake up call for the Somalis to stop their silence on regime represion and human right violation of the Arab world. Will this validate prior contention by the western world and prophecy that that the Arab world are inherently inhumane towards their own people and their guests?. In the minds of most westerners, for whom history of Islam is vague-Attitude towards Islam and muslim world is shaped by images like this incidentIn Islam law(rather than theology) is the dominant discipline for defining the religion.Islamic law provides the blue print of a good society. What Saudi Arabia did - did not stood for Islamic sharia essential unity and diversity in a geographical/nationality context.Islamic law always reflects the diversity of Islam(blind to racism).Racism always exist around the world-it is just the ugly side of the human nature-but what the Saudi's did is something that deserves abhorrnce(not that this time it happened to the somalis) at all time.So go out demonstrate and show your solidarity for justice eventhough others did it before you!.

The gas prices are putting a crimp in my budget. This is the only time i wish Bush should squeeze them Arabs in to lower the gas prices.I was reading the paper on sunday, they said that the gas price will not come down in the next couple of month. They are expecting the gas prices to reach $ 100 a barrel- whatever that means to my 89 octane gas at the gas station. The whole experience have altered my life now.First no more eating out- instead i know carry my own lunch.I drive less now- no more driving unnecessary trips around the neghbourhood(and don't forget Halimo's ride).I heard that if you drive at 50 mph you could save 20 percent of a $25 tank of gas(do the math how much that will be).

Question: Is a women spiritually inferior to a man?
STOIC replied to Seeking Paradise's topic in General
A woman is not at all inferior to a man; nor does being a woman (or any characteristic) mean that you are automatically more sinful. Men and women are each judged equally, and each are rewarded or punished equally from this life. In Islam, you are never prejudged as being automatically more sinful, regardless of being a man or woman, having wealth or being poor, what race you are, or any other inherent or worldly property; what you do in this life and what you feel and believe or anything else He desires to judge you with is what God swt will use to judge you. You used the example of courts--courts are man-made instruments and are always due to error in many ways--unfortunately one of these ways may be things like using a woman's mental or emotional state as judging her credibility. Let me remind you, however, that this has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, which is a personal submission to God swt alone, and no other entities at all. If you have to choose between the stance of a court and God's commandments, Islam teaches to use God's commandments, which definately preach that women and men, though somewhat different, are ultimately equal and should be treated as such. I'd also like to remind you--and this is just my opinion--that the Qur'aan was revealed to a society and a time in which men were powerful (which is still mainly the case). I believe that God swt simply catered the message so that men would adopt and spread the word, simply because men happen to historically be in power. If the Qur'aan explicitly demoted men from their status, even though it would still have been God's will, many men would have been reluctant to adopt Islam and many more would be guilty of sin. God swt thus shows his mercy and power by allowing a situation in which men (and women) may choose how to live, so long as each man and woman is treated fairly, justly, and equally. Even if you read the Qur'aan, most verses that describe heaven (and hell) relate that all people, men and women, will be judged according to their spiritual beliefs and to their actions in this life. Remember to never read verses out of context for they may completely skew the interpretation. In addition, try to read up on commentary or historical situations surrounding each surah (for example, Surat-an-Nisa (Women). In my opinion, a truly Islamic situtation is one where the man out of his means supports the woman in such a way that she has no cares in this world other than serving God swt (see verse 34 of Surat-an-Nisa, along with the rest). Islamically, since men have more strength, we have more responsibility in this world; and women should not have to have this responsibility, since it is men's burden. Remember that God swt knows best and He knows exactly and absolutely how to judge each individual based on their own personal situtations they encounter in this world. -
"Self-interest is but the survival of the animal in us. Humanity only begins for man with self-surrender." ~ Henri Frederic Amiel (1821-1881) ***Why do we always have to think in terms of Black & white, Religious& non Religious. I think religion without humanity is a poor self-indulgent stuff!****

Ngonge, booms always comes to an end.Remember the Gold-rush sites in California that turned in to a ghost town when mining stopped. What about the gold and silver from the new world which made Spain rich in the sixteenth century and later distorted and weakened in the end!.My point is that booms do always come to an end they neither bring sustain economic growth nor cultural improvement.Booms will always bring unrealistic expecattion and envy. The problem with the Arab world is their reliance on foreign labor and expertise. PS: forgive if i come out as a Arab bashing bed wetting Somali!

When you have a peace, a representative government, a democratic election, and upper house of clan elders who listen each other , don't you exist?.When you evolve a relatively superficial platform to express clan grievances(SNM) in to a more nuance and complex political reality don't you exist?.When your political system progressed some way in to a constituitional democracy, don't you exist? When you rebuild your rubbled capital in to a descent city without the help of world bank and international community, don't you exist? ha!.
