  4. It seems that the days of Emett Till are not gone.It is not because the white society embrace this racist idea but it is a proof that there are some people out there who wants to live in their secluded whitey environ.Emmet Till was killed because he whispered at a white girl, those were the days when white America power and prestige were unchallenged. But what can we say today about Walker's case-Sure white people are powerful in the jury pool selection but they can not keeps the blacks in the "good old" days darkness of savagery.Racism is one thing the black man faces everyday. An obsession with color and race is national past time but still black people have long way to go wether in Britain or in South Africa. Before the Summer an incident happened in my school that caught the national headlines.A new hall was named after the first lady who intergrated my school. The adminstration engraved some racial slur that were thrown at the first lady next to her name. The racial slur was the "N" word.Black student overeacted to the post and demanded it removed. Some white student did not wanted it removed. This created an atmosphere of confusion within the student body. They later decided to consult the first lady who advised it to be left there with her notes stating that this is part of history. The black student body is only three percent of the entire school body (32,000).This incident opened dialogue and debate on the racial atmsophere of the campus. This is an evidence that once the society opens up to discuss the racial issue in a civiliazed manner, many of the racial problems wouldn't be a problem today!.Throughout the werstern world racism is an ongoing societal problem that can only be adressed by anti-racism strategies.
  5. Fyr...Lets hope Feisal will pull this one. After all he is confident that he will pull this one over. You know confidence is our subjective probability of hitting the right nail.To make a decision always requires a certain amount of confidence in your understanding of the risk and the benefits of your trial.I think he does understand that if this one doesn't work there is always second chance. PS: This is the first time i listened to the song...it is a great song(and a threat to UCIID and UDUB camp )

Aha!..this is a wrong investment. The unemployement rate is already 98%(this stat is from cousin who is back from there),who is this hotel owner targeting?.Is he targeting Suldanka and Notherner who may be planing a vacation there?.This investment is like buying a share on an Enron stock.May be this would serve as Somaliland forward-thinking model of the future but i doubt if it will have an effect on the strain economy at the moment.Don't they already have a hotel ambassador? .
  11. Bomber duo lived on UK welfare Bruce Wilson London 27jul05 LONDON police yesterday identified two of last Thursday's failed bombers, who were living on welfare, and the flat they used to make the bombs. In a day of fast-breaking developments, Scotland Yard also released details of a plastic food container found in the flat that could be a vital clue. They believe the explosives were mixed and carried by the bombers in similar containers, a brand sold in only about 100 outlets across Britain. The two bombers were identified as Yasin Hassan Omar, 24, from the war-torn Horn of Africa nation of Somalia; and Muktar Said Ibrahim, 27, thought to be from the troubled northeast African nation of Eritrea. As polls show growing public concern about Britain's Muslim community, the fact that Omar has been paid almost $60,000 in state benefits over six years is likely to cause more outrage. He appears to have been living free in the one-bedroom flat in the northern suburb of Southgate after receiving political asylum. The bombs were believed to have been assembled there. Muktar, also known as Muktar Mohammed Said, moved in with him two years ago. A neighbour, Sammy Jones, 33, said she saw the two men carrying unmarked boxes into the ninth-floor flat and asked them what they were. Ms Jones said they claimed it was wallpaper stripper. Other neighbours said the two had recently been joined by a third man, and the three used to kick a football about in a nearby park. Omar had recently begun wearing Muslim robes. Police are now convinced there were five bombers, after deciding a fifth ditched a bomb near Wormwood Scrubs jail in west London. They have not identified the other three. Five people have been arrested in connection with the two bombing attacks on London on July 7 and 21, but none was directly involved, police said. Muktar's father, believed to have been in London for 10 years, was also being quizzed. Police allege Muktar was the bomber whose device failed to explode in a No. 26 bus in Hackney, East London, while Omar had tried to blow up an Underground train between Oxford Circus and Warren St, central London. The news is likely to provoke calls for a thorough investigation into Britain's generous political asylum policies. It is likely all bombers in the second attacks were admitted to Britain as asylum-seekers. The killers in the July 7 attacks were either of British or British-Pakistani origin and British citizens. Intelligence sources said yesterday it was likely all the second bombers had connections with Somalia or northeast Africa. Police raided the flat in Southgate in the early hours of Monday, sealing off three floors of the building. It was then, according to sources, they found the clear plastic food container with a white lid that could be an important lead. Police remain puzzled as to why nobody has come forward with information on the four suspects whose pictures have now been all over the media since last Friday. They believe the four certainly have gone to ground and are being protected, which means the cell may be well organised and extensive. Police last night made a new and urgent plea for public help after saying no sightings of the bombers had been reported since witnesses saw them fleeing on Thursday. An inquest opened yesterday on the innocent Brazilian bystander Jean Charles de Menezes, the young electrician killed by police on Friday at Stockwell station, the bombers' jumping-off point. That coincidence was seen as a possible reason the police squad that killed Mr Menezes, 27, was apparently on a state of high alert or, as one source put it, jumpy. The inquest was told Mr Menezes was shot eight times, rather than the five that had previously been reported, once in the shoulder and seven times in the head. The hearing was opened and adjourned. Prime Minister Tony Blair expressed sympathy and regrets over the death. Britain has promised to deal "sympathetically and quickly" with a claim for compensation from the family. "We are desperately sorry for the death of an innocent person and I understand entirely the feelings of the young man's family," Mr Blair said. Bomber Lived on UK welfare!
  12. Perhaps only a psychiatrist could explain why our reactions, decisions, and conclusions are made based on our clan. Most of us will intuitively agree that we as Somalis has taken it granted the notion of "group think" as ownership of our thoughts. We value our group decisions more than our own views and principles.Deviation from this will be viewed by the group members as a psychopathological. When we make decisions it is not we who make the decisions but rather it is the group that does.It seems that our thoughts are executed by others. The primary response to this tribal identity is a quest for self knowledge. We must make our decisions as individuals. The Somali tribe is a myth and a myth always reflects a persons phenomenological views. These views are colored by affect and various developmental perspectives. It starts when we are young. The first thing we are taught is how to live outside our thoughts. We are imbued with unnecesary non-factual stories that can not be verified by anyone other than the one narrating it.This tribal myths we held so dear are only expressed through stories. The author touched on Jungian theory of "subconscious". Individuals thoughts can not be demonstrated that it existed previously without personal ongoing experiences. An unconcious thought can not be seen nor felt but a conscious thought can be perceived through someone's action. It will be hard to justify that Somalis are acting on previuos thought but through their actions we can see that their loyalty lies within the framework of the past experiences. For the same reason that it hard to justify this connection,it is hard too to deny the existance of the connections. The question that every Somali need to ask himself is how can i as an individual free my self from this shackles of clan loyalty?
  13. Ngonge, Caali is a remarkable son.He is young and has an ability to remain "in touch" with the reality that brought him to the western world.Caali knows himself well to the point that he doesn't wear any mask to cover his feeling. He acknowledges others feelings and wouldn't even hurt a fly!.Caali been open to himself and to the world ever since his mom downloaded him.Caali is that little boy who plays soccer with his freinds on the park every evening.Did i told you Caali has always been curious of his sorroundings. He is always curious when others want to mislead him.May be the wave of "dhalinyaranimo" mislead Caali.Caali is a hardworking boy who takes care of his ayeyo back home.Infact his routine has never changed even one day.He is an 8-5 guy!.All these are eveidence that Ali will not engage in such heinous acts.Ninety percent of the world agrees that they are framing our Caali. The world agreement infact is with the preposition that they are repressive government looking for a scapegoat.Caali is like a pupae stage of an insect spending it's life looking for food.He has no time for this crap!
  14. Ngonge, the launch of the space shuttle discovery is today.I don't know if the BBC is going to show it live but it is sure something to watch. The Discovery is the sister shuttle of Columbia which disintergrated on air in 2003.This shuttle is expected to stay in the space 12 days from today!.I am so delighted that they didn't find any safety flaws yet!.Excuse my vicarious feelings! There it is- it took off!
  15. 6. Muslims that say there is nothing wrong with Islam then sit back and watch while rogue elements hijack the faith and use it for political reasons are duplicitous. Ngonge, this is where i heartily agree with your week long argument. If your partners in this debate agree with you on this point no one will be left to hold the bag !.If we all as a muslims will admit that this people are quoting our Quran and using it for their gain i think our religion will no longer be in danger. But if we make excuses for this terorist our religion will be viewed by outsiders as a death cult religion. No one here aired any hot air-each one had a point. They were only diferent by the skin of the teeth. Ngonge you are right that emotions share alot with actual thought and beleif. You have to understand that we as a muslims are angry with the west and its policies(this is not important now). But we should value our virtues, our reasons, and above all we should value all things that are good as a muslims(i think the guys here agree with you on that).
  16. 7 of Nine aka Kleidoscope...thank you for noticing that!.My news is no more chained to the shackles of humor.I have stopped posting funny news because some of the news out there are crudely indecent(like the horse story Faraxn posted-do you beleive that i saw that news and opted not to post it on SOL?).I responded to Femme Fatale to asseverate my honest intentions.I understand their disaproval of posting such news on this thread.I will be a hypocrite if i say i didn't even deign to give it a second thought when i was posting it here. Its okay for the girls to expostulate with me about this matter.Let them reason earnestly with me about my actions.Seven how about if we change the thread name ha? or shall i endure this stoically? ?
  17. Femme Fatale, wallal i had no intention of making fun of the little girl experience. The only reason i posted the article on this section is because i don't entertain the idea of opening a new thread on every piece of news i came across the web. It is a bit off my character on posting such an exigent matter under a ridiculous thread meant for funny news. Before i posted the piece on this section i had to make a split decision whether to post it here or open a new thread.Since we have already exhausted such topic many times i opted to post it here.If you may look at my record on FGM you will realise that i deprecate such a cruel tradition. If i offended you will you be kind to forgive my sincere penitence?. PS: If five people say remove this piece from this thread i will remove it!
  18. My temperature raised steadily when i read your thread headline because its been a while since i have seen threads dedicated to Somaliland.I was embarrased and humilated and filled with chagrin at reading such a ****** remark"Insulting our lovely and the only truly religion islam".If you feel frustrated with the current Somaliland progress i will advice you to come up with a good accusation so that Somalilanders in this site can resort to a good recrimination.I think all your servile attention on Somaliland progress proves that they are gaining strength and admiration. PS:This is not personal-just mad at the above statement you made! .
  19. We have exhausted this topic for the last two years i have been a member in SOL.We grew tired of it.We can read this article and sympathise with the young girl patience and fortitude she faced with this cruel act or we can turn away and say " oh not another Jeremiad on FGM!" This rite is wrong A Somali teenager asks her family and community why a brutal practice endures. But few are willing to talk. Ayan Hussein - For the Journal-Constitution Sunday, July 24, 2005 "Mom, tell her to stop! Please Mom!" I scream. I turn to my right and gaze up at my mother with tears in my eyes. All she says is "shih.'' There is this deep, cold look in her eyes. She turns and looks right in front of me, at the old woman who is hurting me. My mother is holding me down; with two other women, she is pinning my hands, arms and legs to the floor. For the first time, I get a peek at what is happening. The old woman picks up a pair of scissors and begins using them on me. Panic consumes me and my insides feel tight. The surge of pain through my spine sends my head back to the floor. I scream so hard that I can feel the hair on the back of my neck rise. My eyes are bulging. I start sweating heavily and turn from left to right screaming "Stop!" I look around for a face of hope but there is none. All the windows are closed and the curtains are down. I know it is over when my mother's face lights up with relief. I try to stand up but my legs freeze. The two other women help me. I see blood on the piece of cloth that I was lying on. A lot of blood; it is disturbing. I am 7 years old. Among those who practice it, female circumcision (also known as female genital mutilation or FGM) is a highly valued ritual in which all or part of the female genitals are removed. Its purpose is to mark the transition from childhood to womanhood, but its origin is unclear; opponents say FGM is strictly a cultural practice, but most of those who engage in FGM insist that it is a religious ritual mandated by Muslim law. According to the United Nations, FGM is found extensively in Africa --- in Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, Mali, Mauritania and Niger --- and in some other parts of the world. The age and time at which FGM takes place differs from community to community. According to UNICEF, an estimated two million girls around the world, mostly in Africa, are at risk of undergoing FGM every year. At 16 now, I recall everything that happened. I remember after the procedure, my legs were bound together for 40 days. For nine years nobody in my community discussed this ritual, certainly not my family. This is apparently common among most of the teenage girls that I know. "I am not happy at all for what happened to me,'' says Halima Abukara, a 15-year-old Somali who underwent the procedure at 6 years old. "My mother never talked to me about it, so I didn't bother to ask her.'' It is only now that we question this practice and why it was done to us. "Female circumcision was first done to prevent premarital sex, to ensure the girl's virginity until marriage,'' says Fadhumo Abdikarim, 30, a Somali woman who, like me, had her procedure at 7. ''It is true that the ritual has worked so far and the girls have not had sex before marriage. It will be bad if the girl does otherwise and her stitches come out. She will bring shame upon her tribe." Abdikarim told me that she would never put her three daughters through that pain, and it pleased me. I wondered why my mother never thought of that. Not every mother is like Fadhumo, though. Ferus Hassan, 16, never went through the procedure. Her mother asked her to submit to it recently but Ferus said no. "She claims that I have no choice and doesn't like me talking to her about it. I don't want to get it cut. The stories that I have heard about the procedure from my friends are horrible,'' she said. She got that right. According to the FGM Education and Networking Project, FGM has long-term physiological, sexual and psychological effects. The unsanitary conditions under which FGM takes place result in infections of the genital and surrounding areas and often result in the transmission of HIV. Ironically the Somali people believe the procedure makes the girl culturally and socially acceptable. The ''instruments'' the midwives use could include scissors, razors, knives or even broken glass. These items usually are not sterilized before or after and are often used to operate on several other girls. That could explain my own health issues. At 13, I developed urinary problems. It was the worst experience of my life. Even my mother, who held me down during the procedure, could not help me get through this. Every time I felt like urinating, I just wished that the earth would swallow me alive instead of experiencing the pain that came along with it. I wonder why my mother would put me through such pain and risk and terror. I was only 7. How could she be sure at that time that I would have sex before marriage? I didn't even have the right to defend myself and say NO. I had no idea what they were doing to me. I will eventually find a way through this and accept the fact that I was too small to do anything about it. But it will be hard for me to forgive my mother for the experience that she put me through. She still thinks that it was for my own good. She considers this practice a way to ensure that her daughter is safe. The hardest thing is that she knew how painful it was because she went through it too, but never warned me. I will always love her, but this has caused a space between us. I wish I had the power to prevent any other 7-year-old girls from getting circumcised. It is not what God wants, but what man wants. Changing what God gave me was not their right. My privacy was invaded that afternoon, and it still haunts me to this day. I am not going to wrap myself in self-pity. Instead, I will fight. Sharing my story is difficult, but it is an important step toward my healing. Ayan Hussein is a rising junior at Clarkston High School. Born in Somalia, she grew up in Mombasa, Kenya, and she and her sister immigrated to the United States two years ago to join their father in Clarkston. Her mother and three of her siblings still reside in Kenya. Ayan is a writer for VOX, an independent citywide newspaper by and for teens. This rite is wrong!
  20. Xiin, the generalizing of Islam from the action of few is not new neither is the disregard of similar act commited by other religions new!.One needs to look on the selective editorial and media outlet headlines to witness iconoclasm and histrionics of western media. They purposefuly join all the muslims in one central nervous system. We can say that the terorist are grundyist who do not conform to the teaching of Islam. But still the violence perpetrated by groups with names like party of god conjures up the image of religion with terrorism. When groups quote the Holy Quraan to justify their terorist actions we have the right to be concerned as muslims(as Ngonge put it Not in My Name). I agree with you it is insipid in taste to blame Islam here since the main problem is politics.Islamic candidates in muslim countries like Algeria and turkey have fed the feared hearts of those country rulers.Places like Egypt where Muslim brotherhood have gain support are being harrased by the government. There is an identity struggle in this countries. Will it be right for us as muslims to blame the problem on this political instabilities when zealots are blowing themselves in the name of your god and my god?.The zeitgeist of this terorism actions will always be viewed from both the Islamic and western view.
  21. Only in Africa are people paid to close their legs together.Like a biochemist studying a colony of bacteria under the microscope-Africans bad behaviours are watched closely so that it doesn't multiply, what a shame!. Jul 20, 8:31 AM (ET) KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - A lawmaker is offering to pay university fees for girls who are virgins when they graduate from high school, in part to help fight AIDS. "We want to encourage people to be morally upright and not to go into early marriages. We also want girls to resist defilement. We do not want these girls to get exposed to AIDS," Bbaale County Member of Parliament Sulayiman Madaada said Wednesday. He said he was counting on donors to help pay for the project. Health workers in the central Kayunga District will conduct gynecological examination on girls who want to take part in the project - which is also intended to promote the education of girls there, Madaada told The Associated Press. Uganda was one of the countries hit hardest by HIV/AIDS, but an aggressive campaign led by political, religious and community leaders pushed down infection rates from as high as 30 percent in the early 1990s to around seven percent now. Infection rates, however, remain high in parts of Uganda. Lawmaker Wants to Send Virgins to College
