  1. If you happen to read my words closely too, you will have been able to discern these words “I think you mentioned in one of your questions that you hate shower (my favorite) how do your views on hating shower help us understand what is keeping you away from the water†.I went back and read your survey questions, you are right that you mentioned you hate bath and not shower! I ardently thank you, for imparting the wisdom of telling the difference between a shower and a bath on me  . Even now as i read your words my elementary teacher full -tone voice about hygiene swells in my ears. It reflect that you are pursuing the same course with these adults, but i think it is ineffectual since they are past that stage.

  7. You might think all the fidgeting, frowning, and raising of the eyebrow every second by author Frey was not enough indication to Oprah that the addict was lying. I remember watching Oprah last year, (Hush, men do watch Oprah sometimes) women and men calling about how “Million Little Pieces†changed their lives forever! I personally don’t blame Oprah a bit, but I think she went a little too far when she called in Larry King show to defend the author after the allegation of his misrepresentation surfaced on the web. I usually tend to have mistrust on personal introspection and memories. I think Oprah will be careful next time before she airs any misrepresentations of facts. I know it is hard for Oprah to check how far the author was removed from the facts but I think It wasn’t that hard for the publishing company to verify the statements of the author. Oprah
  8. ^^^After numerous attempts to breach my genetically soured nature, I finally became dog's best friend Do you know that dogs can sniff at your house and tell you whether your house is infested with termites(yeah them little creature that cost people millions of dollars each year in South East USA)?
  9. Sometimes ago, before I read your story, I was sitting in an Epidemiological class. There was a young rosy cheek American Senior student who was giving her presentation on Tuberculosis in Africa. This young American student verbally branded to me that Somalia was the most hit place by TB in the whole world . I could not disagree with the young girl. I have witnessed the social stigma attached to this disease by our community. This social stigma fueled the spread of this disease. Treatment of any disease is achieved by acknowledgement first. Remember this is a disease that spread through the air, if you don’t acknowledge it then you can’t stop the spread, Can you? To effectively treat this disease a six-month supply of drug is needed. According to the World Health Organization the incidence case of TB for Somalia is 411 per 100,000 pop/year. Each individual with an infectious TB will infect an average between 10 to 15 people every year. I know, as a community whatever that spreads with word of mouth is more credible than a statistics; I would love to urge people in here to be an active member of the fight to stop the spread of this disease. PS This is to Abdi,Nice guys finish Last
  10. Xiin, Hamas has been the focal point of Palestinian threat to the state of Israel. For the Palestinians today it represents an alternative to corrupt and inept Fatah party. Given the political role Hamas will play now this will be a step forward to a new era. Will Hamas offer an indigenous alternative to the abysmal failure of the previous party? Will Hamas be more specific for what they are for- improvement of Palestinian education and living standard-than what they are against (Israel)? Lets see how this new era will unfold in the near future.
  11. Can any Somalilander explain it to me the preponderance of attaching oneself to cities? I sense some unpleasant attitude of pride and self-importance attached to cities. Strangely enough you would be surprised to see a Somalilander telling you that he is proud Burcawi or even a proud Salaaxley citizen than a proud Somalilander. Sometimes I wonder whether the unhealthy fixation with the cities will become the apocalyptic term for the erosion of patriotism. When will we ever get away from this old idea that is preserved in our culture?

^^^^Your comments about my Somali may become grist to the mill of my adulation. Thank you, this is an encouraging comment to my Somali language after long, torturous, but heroic development to blend with the rest of Somali brothers and sisters . Don’t mind Xiin, he is intuiting the rote affirmation of love. A bracing protest yours may be, we still love our beautiful Somali girls/women.

  14. Love, a formless collection of tiny feelings-which when I examined it closely blend into a recognizable forms. When I took some heart in a mysterious way, Love has confused me with impermanence, change and fluidity of different states. Something is directing you like a conductor translating a piece of music into a meaningful whole. Is it Love? It is a difficult thing to evaluate a love just as a piece of music is hard to merit. If you happen to be a critic of a piece of music you will realize how one evaluator may be bowled over how clearly an artist presented the structure of his piece while another will find the piece cold. Love is hard to tell in conventional way. Like the party (not SoL rules ) whose unstated rules no person can follow rigidly, love demands a rule that is impossible to predict. All these made me to believe that love is a hard thing that may blur your mind PS Two post about love today? walai sohaya baan umaleynaya tee
  15. Castro, you didn't attend school in Kenya by any chance, did you? The description you gave fits a school boy in the highlands of Kenya . PS Its friday, its the end of the week and am out of this bloody building!!

Xiin, your suggestions tugged a smile on my face. The softness of her voice and the glow that lit her eyes whenever she glanced on my side strangely makes me willing to deep in my pocket. There is indomitable pride chiseled in her face and intelligence etched into every part of her face. I am so startled somewhat confident to hear from you that raag waisowathajabeen .The glamour behind every relationship(call it marriage) is jaabitaan horee heh? This assures me that I am not the only man cornered by an innocent girl/woman. It’s time to gather up my courage and take this thing to the next level saaxiib .
  17. I was deprived eating from the "deerriga" (cooking pan).I use to have an inordinate craving for the bottom part of the barriska (dalacaa/iskudax kaariis). This was a disturbed state for me because my sisters were allowed to eat the best part while i was deprived that in the name of "dhaaqaan".My mom wouldn't let me be in the kitchen because it was "ceeb" for a youngstar like me roaming in the kitchen. You can see that there are rather some similarity with the girls not allowed to play soceer or basketball here.

Xiin, this reminds me of a Czech proverb;"so long as the language lives the nation lives too".Even though i am not one who easilly takes hold of the perplexing and involved states of our poets poems ; i wouldn't be human if i didn't respect the profundity of their thoughts. Thanks for giving the meaning so swiftly.I need to improve my Somali language skills(No more Swahili). PS Heck i might even use the above poem on the girl next door whenever she wants more than i can let it go (Shhhhh, i might give you credit)
  19. When a man(Read brothas) oohs and aahhs and dayyyumms at a beautiful woman with a blessed badonkadonk, that’s love right there Brown, that ain't love but a silly caper we do it for entertainment.Remember it is the second best thing after slice of a bread
  20. Kenya has been enduring unwavering symbols of corruption ever since the KANU era. The new government promise to end nepotism has become a huge hypocrisy. It was the responsibility of the new Kibaki government (I call them GEMA) to come up with a tentative solution to end this corruption. Members of parliament who make their blueprint logo “How can I enlarge my beer pot†obscure the exigencies of fighting corruption in Kenya. The mainstream of Kenyan government has been defined since the independence by one that is realist in orientation but corrupt in its actions. I thought the new government will yield a bounty of institutions that will end the era of corruption and begin a fundamental commitment to maintain a corrupt free society but they failed miserably!
  21. It’s a beautiful day and the temperature has risen a little better than yesterday. The day stretched out ahead of us. My home girl and I decided to hit the gym. This is our first day in the gym. Everything is strange. The equipment line seemed to be inching forward like a snails funeral. Okay what do we do now? People are stirring at us. Deep in my heart I do believed that I am at the right place. She is standing in front of me. She is mopping her forehead with a towel. She is sickly grinning at us and sniffing at us like a dog sniffing at its bone. She is wearing a pant that is so tight across her hips. My friend out in sharp relief murmured, “She is Somaliâ€. I didn’t think much of her identity since we needed help.†Shall we approach her and ask her to help us?†People who think we have plunged ourselves deep in the worst scandal of poor fashion are encircling us. We are monsters trapped in a huge body cloth. We roared stupidly on how people choices of cloth can be a hair-raising issue. Did people forget their utmost responsibility of respecting others choice? If it weren’t for our modesty we could have walked up to this people and give them a piece of our mind. Disclaimer: Chocolate am bored at my desk. The above post was not meant to prode you dear!Your story reminded me of another incident.
  22. The worst travel experience for me will be Columbus,Ohio. `Other than rolling farmland there isn't much to see there . The best place to visit now is Atlanta (No bias there ).More and more people are visiting the city now than ever because of the opening of the world's Largest Aquarium .According to the Aquarium website there are more than 100,000 animals in a 8 million gallon of fresh water (can you beat that eh? ).
  23. Northerner, I am personally not an Economist but from my point of view economics occurs in the context of value system that guides our market priorities. Societies rank the priorities of allocating choices in the context of benefit/cost analysis. Your argument of good infrastructure comes in as a good economic rationality since market and production depends on the mobility of services and goods. Chocolate and Honey, the ground breaking millennium Ecosystem Assessment have found that in the last 50 years ,sixty percent of the world ecosystem services are being used unsustainably. Now I don’t want to sound like an alarmist to you but I would love to direct you to read more on this subject(if you care).Science is the ultimate answer to most of the questions you have raised; even though obscured by policies sometimes I think if you make science your starting point you will discover a lot (am not saying you haven't- just trying to be cautious ).
  24. The social ill impacting black America today is racially disparate laws, disproportionate incarcerations, and lack of political respect. The national welfare of people depends upon a sufficiently even balance of political representations. Where the balance of political representation no longer exists, the welfare of the community perishes in the ashes of poverty! Mass incarceration of black America strongly undermines the family union that is being viewed as the cause of the black hole. It is a simple psychology; with the increase of parents behind bars comes an increase of a broken family structure. Unless black America gets a fair representation and good leadership, they will always be at the bottom of American dream. Now it will be a naïve attempt to blame Uncle Sam where personal discipline and hard work is required to be anatomized. Apart from the racism that exists today in America there is no doubt that hard work is indissolubly linked to success in America (as some of you pointed out the immigrant example). It will be inappropriate to claim that black America are denied the door to success today even though the ultimate goal is still far from reach. Far from being locked inside their skin color today white America acknowledge the right of the black man. There is an invincible drag force that is pulling black America down. Unless we walk on their shoes it will be difficult for us to pin-point what is keeping them down(but we can only speculate).
  25. What do the economists or ecologists mean when they say the word economic sustainability or ecological sustainability? We as a people define sustainability as a system that preserve natural system and social system of our communities. We make sure that our health and economic conditions are preserved for our future generations. The principles of a sustainable society that is agreed universally includes improve the quality of human life, enabling communities to care for their own environment, providing a national development for integrating development and conservation together and above all conserve the earth vitality and diversity. The Rio declaration on Environment and development (Earth Summit 1992) recognized that it is not only the traditional measure of economic welfare that matters. Quality of life and well-being are determined by the state of people health, income, vibrant communities, and environmental quality! The summit declared that a sustainable integrated approach is needed to achieve this goal. This goals can be achieved by engaging the citizens in a common vision of long term community, economic and ecosystem health that is build around the local culture values. We need to develop economic opportunities that provides for the needs of the local people. This reiterates the importance of addressing poverty by expanding the community development. The continuous self-production of our economic system depends on stock of natural capital flow for example useful goods and services such as fish, breathable air, and soil formation flows from our ecosystem. Natural capital is irreversible, unlike constructed capital, which can be rebuilt; destructions of our biodiversity can be lethal. We need to promote a pattern of consumption and production that reduce environment stress while at the same time empowering the economic power of our communities. It has been largely agreed that production and consumption are embedded in our cultural beliefs. We all need to move onto a path that will leads us all to a more cultural change in our Somali communities. Lets all try to transform our self-interest goods into a common-pool resource system for our future generations and remember that ruin will be our destination if we each pursue our best interest without caring about our fellow citizens. HAPPY MLK DAY,THANK YOU DR KING!!
