  1. in fact I have relatives in burco, hargaisa, buuhoodle, bosaso, kismaayo, and ofcourse my hometown Laascaanod. When I said I was only born there, I was referring to the fact that I didn't grow up there. Most of us somalis have relatives that reside almost everywhere in Somalia. so yeh its good to have wide connections in case you ever decide to reside anywhere around there. salaam
  2. thats good to hear. But, I was only born in Hargeisa... salaam
  3. subhanalah those questions came to my mind too. Like say you lived in an apartment its hard to hear a commotion in another floor, and even if there was a commotion going on at 5 am I wouldn't be brave enough to go down and have a look.... LAAKIN walaaley lets allow him to rest in peace, its not good to talk about the dead. make more duca inshallah that allah bestows upon him his mercy and blessings.. salaam
  4. am not sure if its save to go back to Hamar, I was implying buying lands in more safer regions. Koolkat lol nop am not a Somalilander. Proud somali girl..alhmadulilah!! salaam ps. keep those papers safe it'll pay off soon enough
  5. My heart aches for that family and for every family who lost a child. Also, those kids who are prone to such circumstances. Koolkat aamin to your ducas, but allah swt said put your faith in me. However, one must not stop there but rather do something about the situations. All those somali organizations that reside in toronto need to get together and do something to improve the lives of their youngesters (ie encourage them to educate themselves, after school programs..you name it) Also, the point you made about somalis living in ghetto areas just to save money just hits home. It's exactly whats going thru somali families. I hope they are smart enough to buy houses or rent apartment in good environments so their kids won't mingle with the wrong crowd. The other thing I wanted to mention is am not here to say this kid was with the wrong kids. I was simply making general points inshallah to avoid such situations. salaam
  6. Bob I was born in Hargeisa...so I guess that makes two of us Koolkat hoyada way saxsantahay. You can buy lands now and who knows cheaply since some people out there just wanna get rid of their lands since they think they r not gonna return or maybe they have other uses for the money..either way buying a land now and investing in it and maybe selling it when Somalia is in a better condition would be a good investment...(this is my business side talking loool mainly abt making profit) contributing back home is a whole different story (ie making schools etc)
  7. I haven't seen back home since I was 3 years old thats back in 1990. I don't have any memories of back home to treasure for the good times that it offered prior to the civil war. All I know is basically what I see on TV and how hopeless it has become. But, that doesn't mean I will give up as of yet, naah am still hoping one day somalia to be reestablished. Not a day went by without adding to my prayers that Allah swt to make the situation back home better. However, that does not mean I want to go back home for good, my parents left there so I can have a better life. Likewise I want the same thing if not better for my kids (when allah blesses me with some). That being said I would love to go back to help my somali people. I wouldn't wanna live there but I would love to contribute in anyway possible. whether its financially or investing in a business back home. After all we play a huge role in reestablishing Somalia for a better future... salaam
  8. HENRY STANCU/TORONTO STAR Sirad Mohamed lost her husband and elder son to violence. Now, son Ayoob Adam has been killed. He was the last male in the family to be killed but the first Canadian. Ayoob Adam, 16, was visiting his aunt on the weekend on Dixon Rd., between Islington and Kipling Aves., when he heard a commotion below, between the highrises. He went down to investigate and ended up fatally stabbed in the chest. "Wrong place, wrong time," his grieving mother, Sirad Mohamed, 52, said yesterday, dressed head-to-ankles Somali style in black robes at her apartment, several kilometres east of the crime scene. In 1992, the boy's father disappeared in Mogadishu soon after the Somali civil war broke out, she said. His body was never recovered. That same year, the boy's older brother was killed on his way to Yemen trying to escape the fighting, she said. Three daughters, in their early 20s, complete the family. Canada was to be their safe refuge. Shortly after Adam went downstairs, at around 5a.m. Sunday, police responded to sounds of gunfire at 340 Dixon Rd. They found Adam on the ground behind the building along with another youth, who had been shot. Both were taken to hospital. Adam was pronounced dead. The other victim remains alive but police have not released his name or details of his condition. No witnesses have come forward, Adam's mother said, leaving her with almost no information about what took place. Her features pinched and lined, she stood at her apartment door surrounded by similarly dressed women who helped comfort her and translated, while others occasionally arrived with bowls of salads and platters of hot food covered in foil. "This has to be stopped," the mother said quietly of the youth violence plaguing the community. "Nobody is helping." On the family's arrival in Canada, they moved to the Kingsview Complex on Dixon Rd., one friend said. Mohamed volunteered at the community centre. Adam made lasting boyhood friendships, which he kept up after the family moved several years ago to the Jane St. and Highway 401 area. Adam was in Grade 11 at Nelson A. Boylen Collegiate Institute, on Falstaff Ave., a school of 400 students with the motto, "Good things come from small schools." "We need a stepping stone," said one woman who declined to give her name but said her nephew was "gunned down" in 2005. "We live in a ghetto," she said. "The system is designed for us to stay here. Our kids are at risk every day. There are no jobs for them. Their only opportunity is to be killed." Another woman said security cameras might have made up for uncooperative witnesses, but the complex has none. The killing, said a third, calls to mind the shooting last year in nearby Lawrence Heights of 18-year-old Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim. It was caught on video but the quality was too poor to positively identify the shooter or his companion. Five survivors of that shooting sustained wounds but all refused to testify, and the jailed suspects were released.

  12. I guess since he's pro somaliwayn that does elicit lots of negative comments from certain people. But, that's life...not everyone believes in the same thing. At least respect those who have different opinion than you... salaam
  13. I wrote these lyrics down since I couldnt find them online, so feel free to correct it.... Dayless nights couldn't figure out the first line I look for peace but no'in is to rain cuz in the desert it will only rain pain... now look at this I see some ships that have no business here I try to run the sea am not that fast I trip and fall and barely escape the blast blast cuz Dayless nights I see some pirates in the ocean late at night they move around and just can't wait to fight watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night Dayless nights I see some pirates in the ocean late at night there is never peace somethings will never change watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night Meditate could I have lived if I have never strayed wait this is somalia people am afraid I have no lemons to make lemonade and so excused I know I have only known the tragic broken rules Got no'in to eat and really no'in to lose it is do or die and am prepared to blow fuse cuz Dayless nights I joined pirates in the ocean late at night the thing I said will never make it right watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night Dayless nights am in the darkness I cant seem to find the light there is never peace somethings will never change watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night Got my wish I caught a ship to eat instead of fish sticks when i get paid I will live the life I missed we caught the Alabama Maersk Ship but what a risk The tide switched and captain Philip has been stationed braving this they came to save him and am glad hes free and now the Navy Seals shot me shot me now am free from the dayless nights I joined pirates in the ocean late at night nothing I said will never make it right watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night Dayless nights am in the darkness I cant seem to find the light there is never peace somethings will never change watch out for the pirates in the ocean late at night

  17. watch this video, makes one reflect....
  18. I think you said in one of your posts that you are Romanian. Am just wondering why you are fascinated and so keen to learn Somali? not that you are not entitled, everyone is free to learn whatever language they feel like learning. I am just wondering what made you learn it? how did your interest in somali start? do you live in a neighborhood that has large somali community? salaam
  19. Bible made it seem like you have contempt for people who aren't Muslims I simply said the bible that exist nowadays is not the word of God and theres several versions out there. That doesn't mean I dislike those who practice it....its merely facts. If you dnt believe me go get several bibles and am sure you would see how so many verses have been taken out. The Bible and the Quran are not both the same. The Quran is the word of God..whether you choose to believe it? really that's up to you.We are all born muslims, its matter of you reverting and thats done mainly by choice, no one will force upon you. Use your mind and just read through both books and see for yourself. salaam
  20. I guess everyone sees things from a different angle. I guess I can see where you'r coming from...
  21. Clearly in the Quran it says.... You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion. One can only preach, but you can not force it. The prophet pbuh was pleading his uncle to make the shahada before he passed away, and he was pleading so hard that Allah swt said you are only a prophet csw and you'r only to deliver the msg and nothing more. so if a person does not want to see the truth who am I to enforce it... May Allah guide us to the right path! salaam
  22. c&h somalidu waxay ku maahmaahda hadal ma aha sida loyidhi ee wa sida loo qaatay..waxa dhici karta in ay simply ka waday furitaan dadkooda wa ku yaryahay yadoo waxkale uga jeedin....hadana anuu qalbigeeda kuma jiro oo ilaahay ma og..lakin wax kasta si qalad ah lofahmo hadal badan oo mala yacni ah lagama baxayo...
