I watched this video sometime last year. I thought it was related to this topic. here's the link This link talks about South African doctors leaving South Africa to be employed in Canada. Most of them are complaining how life in South Africa is hard for them and what not. It is sad how they are leaving cities where there is hardly a doctor. But, they are getting paid way more money up here, so who wouldn't go for it. Enjoy the link. It is interesting. salaam

MaSHALLAH that was amazing. May Allah swt bless those who are making a difference. Makes us realize that we gotta spend time helping our people instead of talking about none ending somali politics... salaam

You expect him to make his own food? How selfish is that. He is a man, while married to you, he shouldn't even know how the kitchen looks like. Shame on those women who allow their partner to see the inside if the family kitchen. Shame on you!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL and here people thought I was traditional. Allah sol waxay heshay mid iga daran...mashallah!!

Africanqueen I couldn't help but comment on this. You hold such a strong view, I don't even fully agree. I mean a women does not have to stay at home unless there are kids involved. am strong believer to raise your kids when they are young..bt if there are no kids in the picture staying at home to cook for him is a totally a no-no for me..cuntadasiisa haka sarto ma gacma dheerahay hehehe. Anyways, thats just my stand.. anyhow back to the topic as far as cookin goes its not that hard follow our sister Tammy's blog..I simply adore her blog. Mashallah...you can also talk to her here, she's actually a member thats if u have questions abt her ingredients, instruct ions etc. Or, maybe if you have fb you can add her. She's great mashallah. May Allah swt bless her for her good efforts. btw wlc to Sol. inshallah you will enjoy your time here. salaam

This email was forwarded to me. Inshallah I hope you all benefit from it. We are now almost in the month of Sha'aban and there is few days to receive RAMADAN al Mubarak. Keeping the greatness of the holy month of Ramada, I am forwarding this mail -in advance- for preparing ourselves to avail the opportunity to finish reading Holy Qur'an during the Month of Ramadan. Let us work for this investment & May Almighty Allah shower His grace, mercy on us abundantly. A Quick preparation for Ramadan 1. Start reading Quran daily after Salat al-Fajr. 2. Spend some time listening to recitations from the Quran. 3. Train yourself to go bed early so that you can wake up far Salat al-Fajr. 4. Keep yourself in a state of Wudu (Ablution) most of the time. 5. Evaluate yourself daily before going bed. 6. Thank Allah for good deeds, and repent to Him for your mistakes and sins. 7. Start giving Sadaqah daily, no matter how little. Make it a habit like eating and drinking. 8. Find time to pray extras, such as Tahajjud prayers. 9. Spend more time reading Islamic books, especially the Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh. 10. Find time to help others with your wisdom, knowledge and other talents. 11. Try to write articles on Islam for Muslims as well as for non-Muslims. 12. Associate with Muslim scholars / ulama and other pious people so that you may learn from them. 13. Train yourself to do good, render free service to others to seek the pleasure of Allah. What to avoid 1. Avoid/reduce watching TV; instead spend more time reading the Quran and other Islamic literature. 2. Avoid looking at unlawful pictures, whether magazines, department store catalogs or others. 3. Spend free time in Masajid, Islamic organizations and make that a daily habit. 4 . If you smoke, try to reduce daily usage; otherwise Ramadan will be very difficult for you to observe. 5 . If you have friends who do not practice the teaching of Islam, try to avoid socializing with them. 6 . If you travel a lot on business, try to do more local business, so you can be more closer to your family and community. 7 . If you are used to staying up till midnight, try to go to bed earlier, so that you will be able to wake up early for Salat al-Fajr and Tahajjud prayers as well. To prepare ourselves before the month of Ramadan arrives is far better than waiting till it comes. To prepare ourselves for anything in life is a sign of wisdom and maturity. No one is assured of living one day more; tomorrow may not come. So hurry and benefit from blessings and rewards from Allah. Remember: 'Time is not money or gold; it is life itself and is limited. You must begin to appreciate every moment of your life and always strive to make the best use of it.' A Quick Checklist 1. Make a resolve to win the maximum favor of Allah by performing extra Voluntary prayers (Nawaafil), making frequent Dua and increased remembrance. 2. Try to recite some Holy Quran after every Prayer. In fact if you read 3-4 pages after every Prayer you can easily finish the entire Quran in Ramadan! 3. Study the Tafseer (commentary) every morning. 4. Invite a person you are not very close with or your relatives to your home for Iftaar, at least once a week (Weekend). You will notice the blessings in your relationships! 5. Bring life to your family! Everyday, try to conclude the fast with your family and spend some quality time together to understand each other better. 6. Make commitment to join Islamic study circles to learn more about Islam and improve your own life. 7. Donate generously to the Masajid, Islamic organizations, and any where people are in need or oppressed. 'Because Ramadan, is a month of sharing!' 8. Share month of Ramadan and its teachings of peace and patience with your neighbors. 9. Sleep little, eat little! Make sure you do not defeat the purpose of fasting by over-indulging in food and being lazy. 10. Seek the rare and oft-neglected rewards of the night better than 1000 months ( Laylatul-Qadr / Shab-e-Qadr). 11. Weep in private for the forgiveness of your sins: Ramadan is the month of forgiveness and Allah's Mercy! It's never too late. 12. Learn to control your tongue and lower your gaze. Remember the Prophet's (pbuh) warning that lying, backbiting, and a lustful gaze all violate the Ramadan fast! 13. Encourage others to enjoin and love goodness, and to abandon everything that Allah dislikes. Play the role of a Da'ee (one who invites to Allah) with zeal, passion, and sympathy. 14. Experience the joy of Tahajjud prayers late at night and devote yourself purely and fully to Allah in the Itikaf retreat during the last 10 days of Ramadan. Allah Blessings love you all

Asalamu Alaikum, After the Islamic greeting, I wanted to wish you all a happy Somali Independence day. Happy Canada day as well to my fellow Somali Canadians, yeh a bit early I assume lol bt it might as well be. Inshallah have a wonderful day and spend it with ur family and friends and have a day full of joy and happiness. In addition to this I have decided to leave Sol. But, I did not want to leave without letting you all know how much I have appreciated posting here for the past three years. I have got to know so many wonderful people in Sol. Of course there’s the downside of the politics section but I suppose that’s politics making us blind to the truth. The truth which is that we are all better off united and that we are better off looking for one another rather than competing to make each other look bad. At the end of the day we are Somalis. I pray that one day we will all unite and look back at what happened this past 20 years and see it as a test from Allah swt. Allah swt tests his ummah to see their imaan(faith). And that we learn from it and moved on. That we also forgive one another and to forget the problems that few created and stop generalizing a whole group of people for what few people did. None of us want to be guilty for what another man did, so why generalize a whole group of people for what few men/women did?...we need to all look out for the best interest of our people inshallah. I leave you solers with the advice that we are the future of Somalis, and if we maintain this division, hatred and repeatedly talking abt the past to justify our current opinions, we are not gonna move forward nor will we see progress back home… Alhmadulilah most of us had the chance to educate ourselves and make a better future for ourselves. So, today is it, it is the time to contribute back home and work together with the bits and pieces that are left and make the best of it so our kids can see a better Somalia. With that being said it was really fun being here since 2006..… Inshallah if I argued with anyone over whatever I do hope that they find in their heart to forgive me and know that I have always had good intentions…. I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you pursue inshallah. I will miss you all….. sidaa iyo nabadgalyo… Wa salaamu alaikum

well I will speak for myself i will never be a second wife , nor be part of such marriages by allowing a hubby of mine to marry more. I for one would not wanna compete with someone else.. hebla ka casho fiican ama ka caruur wanagsan ama ka guri fiican ama hebla ayaan ka jeclahay...waxaas oo dhan maxa igu wata....ama aniga kaliya ha i haysto ama banaanka ha ii dhaafo..maxaa la ii wareerinaya lol ibti, I think its abt financially, being kind, and taking care of your kids. When it comes to emotions? love? I think theres an exception to it. I read it from somewhere I cant recall, it said what one feels is beyond their capacity to control.. salaam
