    We need to transition away from live animal exporting towards a frozen meat trade. The animals would be saved from the suffering of the voyage It’s worth more to the Somaliland economy to process animals in Somaliland, instead of shipping them live (leather). Meat processing facilities would create thousands of jobs. Farmers selling to the frozen meat trade would be exposed to less risk from closed markets or markets disrupted by disasters.

    Just last 2 weeks Somaliland has exported close to 500 thousand heads of livestock to Suadi Arabia, UAE and Egypt. Egypt has become a huge market since the start of this year, ordering approx 20,000 heads of sheep every month.

    @Timacaddeh American law makers have a notorious obsession with naming their laws this way. Anyway, it is getting more and more interesting and it seems Taiwan is actually becoming a high priority for Washington.     Absolutely. Cashar fiican ayaa loo dhigay. But in the grand scheme of things, this issue is one of principles, Somaliland will maintain its relations with Taiwan because it makes sense. yes, China has a lot of money. But money is not everything. If you want to see the legacy of China in Africa, one needs to look closely at Angola, Mozambique and Zambia. Not the shining examples of success.

    This is effectively what China doesn't understand. China is not compatible with Somaliland and hence it is this very reason why the Chinese delegation in Hargeisa will go back empty handed.

    I must say this is one of the very few actions of the bunker government I wholeheartedly support. Their intention might be for political reasons but whatever can keep Ethiopian and Kenyan drugs off Somali markets and homes is most welcome.
