One other thing, in 1990 Mohamed Siyad Barre asked the former President of Djibouti to mediate between SNM and his regime. The SNM's gave to Djibouti leader a precondition that Siyad Barre steps down and a new Gov't installed led by opposition forces. Of course, it was a condition too hard for the dictator to accept so the talks broke down. Within months, he was fleeing Villa Somalia.

The USC was the brainchild of the SNM. In fact, the SNM provided the kick start funding, arms and military trainers. it is all about whose side that has won. The Government side was not just the gov't itself, it included a host of allied groups from Somali Aabo, to ONLF, SSDF and USP groups. Everyone acknowledges the Somalia Army was destroyed almost completely by the SNM. Yes, it caused a very heavy lost on the part of the SNM but that did not stop it from keeping almost 95% of the territory on its hands outside the heavily fortified army garrisons - yes they were no city or town, it was reduced to army garrison cut off from each other and only receiving supplied only from the air. And of course, it is part of the strategy, if the opponent had brought all his eggs to the North, and the Southern side of the country was almost complete free - it was a very smart strategy to arm and train the USC. This strategy is backed by the almost domino like collapse of the regime which just waiting for a knock-out punch.

I think I guess what you have in mind. There is more of the same in the north, more than the south east area you have in mind.
