If Mogadishu tries to muscle its way to gaining control of Somaliland Air space, surely it won't succeed. Shutting down the Air space, both Hargeisa and Mogadishu loose. But that is how it will end if there is no agreement between the two sides. With regards to the Qatar Airways, Somaliland's support for UAE/Saudi block is symbolic.

The Airspace issue is hot topic b/c it would mark the first time Mogadishu has direct control of something that affects Hargeisa's sovereignty. As of today, there is absolutely nothing that Mogadishu has leverage over Hargeisa that will affect the day to day lives of Somalilanders. If this takes place, it would force chaos over the Somali Airspace as Hargeisa will take charge of its rightful control over her own air. In turn, this will confuse the Airmen and may hasten the complete shutdown of the Somali Airspace by International Airlines. As SRSG Keating rightful mentioned, the Airspace needs both Mogadishu and Hargeisa to reach a decision. The previous Administration in Villa Somalia signed an accord with previous Somaliland administration of Siilaanyo which would allow the shared Air space to be controlled from Hargeisa until a final binding decision is reached over the overarching political issue between the two sides.
