I was reading the Kenya Nation newspaper's online version and one thing caught my eye, all the Somali people cited carried the name: ABDI, what explains the extraordinary popularity of this name among Somalis ? I'm not even talking about Abdi with a suffix such Abdi-khaliq, Abdishakur, Abdirizaq, etc but just straight up Abdi without any other name at the end. Somalis are the only Muslim community that use this weird name too. I cringe when I hear our people call each other Abdi. Somali N word perhaps I will be adding examples as I come across them.

A few things I know: Agriculture: There are countries like Kwait that totally rely on Sudan for food production. Kwait can never wish ill or do bad to Sudan. The Ethiopians copied this. The Saudis are partly dependant on Ethiopia. Foreign Policy: The Sudanese can stand on principles even in some cases dollars does not sway them. After the massacre in Lebanon they offered to ressettle the whole camp in good agricultural lands, give citizenship and all. Respect for Human life: Every single deposed leader lived in Sudan, even the one who was overthrown when travelling came back to Sudan and became leader of opposition party. Sudan is one of the few countries that has a communist party. Culture: Generous. Forgiving culture not forgetting. Arts and literature is held in high regard. Nationalities are known and have varying music and languages, but are polite and cultured to each other. What the media portrayed about Darfur was wrong image. Like all of us they have their bad aspects as well, but in my view they are best in the continent. If we all copy good side, we will be much better than we are today.

From some reading In Eritrea its 50-50, but in Ethiopia Tigray Orthodox are almost 90%. There are more than 9 nationalities in Eritrea and 4 nationalities in Tigray Ethiopia. 5 of the nationalities in Eritrea and all 4 of nationalities in Ethiopia Tigray are shared common with Eritrea-Ethiopia.

It is called consistency. Something the Unionists lack. Only Galbeedi will be able to tell you that SNM is beesha Dhexe while at the same time accusing Reer Gabiley for voting for their son. All in the same single sentence. If Beesha Dhexe's votes were combined, it is split almost 50:50 for the elections in 2010 and 2017. Something Gableedi will rather sweep under the carpet because it doesn't fit his narrative. Anyway, I agree with Gableedi the fact that there are huge challenges in Somaliland. Where we differ, is that I am a supporter of Somaliland and he is a Unionist. Thus, he takes on the view that "we should destroy" what we have build and go to the occupied territories of Southern Somalia. Whereas, I am on the view that, yes, we have issues and challenges but we should fix them as Somalilanders and build on what we have so far built. Any sane person free from qabyaalad will see which option is closer to sanity and rational thinking.

Same passionate supporters of Somaliland, just different sub-clans I think. I don't believe Suldaanka and Barwaaqo are paid trolls because I have seen them comment on other topics that are not related to Somaliland.

Galbeedi, I never thought Old_Observer was Somali. He could also be Somali with strong ties to TPLF (remember Illey was crying helpless when Meles died). Does it matter though? He is informative and plays by the rules. Isn't it our job to counter views we don't agree with? OO, I didn't know Ethiopia was instrumental in getting ICC off Al-Bashir's back. Al-Sisi is a merciless dictator who is murdering his own people. I have not come across any Somali who likes that man. Don't be surprised if you hear Egypt and Saudi Arabia are planning to counter Erdogan's move on Sudan.

Holac, what do you suggest ? Change our names ? I myself carry an Abdi prefixed name and to be honest I hate it.
