Somalia Online – The Turkish ambassador to Somalia Mr Kamaludin Kani Torun told the media at a press conference that the Turkish government has spend 35 million dollars renovating the historic Digfeer hospital in Mogadishu.
“We spent 35 million dollars so far and the hospital is now complete as far as construction and equipment are concerned. We are now waiting for Turkish doctors to arrive soon” said the ambassador.
The ambassador indicated that a small fee will be charged to patients admitted to the hospital in order to pay for some of the operating cost. The Turkish government will continue to bankroll the bulk of the cost to keep the hospital running, including the salaries of the Turkish doctors. It is not entirely clear how much the Somali government will contribute.
